A Bass VI, a Limelight P, an NR Thunderbird...

How do you have your volume control ?
howdenspur replied to LITTLEWING's topic in General Discussion
With the Precision, volume on max and tone between 75%ish and 100%. With the Tbird, for the "classic Tbird sound", neck on 10, bridge on about 8 and tone on 10. If I want to kid myself that it sounds a bit like a Jazz, I'll reverse the volume settings but lose a bit of volume in the process. -
Thanks AT, hadn't twigged the scale length. I'd seen the one on Ebay which talks about being based on the Pawn Shop Bass VI... Has anybody tried the Revelation RJT 60 B - the Bass VI alike. Looks nice, decent price too, well below the latest Squier price! http://thebassgallery.com/bass/rjt-60-b-bass.html

This is at Bishopthorpe Road York. We're playing on the back of a wagon at the street party to celebrate the TDY finishing stage 2 in York. Should be a hoot, but I'll need some fingerless gloves!
All finished and should be with me next week. The brief was a replica of Phil's iconic maple boarded CSB era Precision, but worn to emulate how it would look today had Phil still been alive and playing - I don't think it's turned out so badly. As others have noted, if Philip saw that, he would approve!

Great story - and a fab looking bass. I'd quite fancy an old P... -
Just bought a Dimarzio P pick up from Jose. Friendly bloke with very good communications, prompt posting and bullet proof packaging. Recommended!!

NBD: Fender American Vintage 64 Jazz in Daphne Blue
howdenspur replied to Old Horse Murphy's topic in Gear Gallery
Just, wow. A lovely duo, nice one indeed. -
Great score on the cards there Blue. I saw them at one of the !976 shows at Earls Court and Don Valley Stadium Sheffield in 1995: so that means I'm overdue seeing them again!

Later ones come with the fixing on the back of the neck. It should help neck dive, but the bass may tilt away from you a bit. You can counter this by letting your strap at the bridge end ride across the front of the bass. Not pretty but it works.

The Black Horse on Monkgate used to be known as the Tap and Spile. Good town centre sort of pub and based on our previous experience there, should be a busy night! https://www.facebook...rseyork?fref=nf

Those LPs look the business Andy - particularly the black! We're playing the Black Horse in York this Saturday (28th) midway through a weekend long cider festival . I shall not be imbibing due to the likely impairment of my musical abilities! Driving too...

Now that's what I call quick. Good price too!

The pro v is pretty rare, especially the translucent black. They come up on ebay occasionally. Quite nicely done, but you need to like a wide fretboard . Some of the early ones had pick up issues with 4 string variants fitter rather than 5. Good hunting...

What's the general standard of player who reads Basschat?
howdenspur replied to lou24d53's topic in General Discussion
I'm firmly in the hobby bass player camp. I play in 3 bands, none of which are busy. I'd say 2 are a decent standard as pub bands go, one lot are a load of old blaggers but very nice fellows. I started bass late in life, got my first one 10 years ago, first gig at 50 which was 7 years ago now. I've been playing consistently since then. I think 'solid' describes what I do. I have no theory, I don't know my arpeggios from my elbow but can find any note on the fretboard. Eventually. Can't improvise, simply copy and paste. On the plus side I have ( so far ) been able to learn and play anything that has been asked of me with a reasonable enough touch to remain in bands with far better musicians than I will ever be. A deception that I hope I will continue to get away with.
+10 for this. Just about sums me up, though I just play in the one band, though a bit for my guitar teacher at student concerts and a bit in church too -
A great player and soulful too. RIP
