1. Oh my goodness, yes. It's the single thing that I would always try to use before anything else. I use the MXR-80 bass compressor. It adds punch, sustain, and evens out my dynamics - NOT crushing them, just taming the louder parts. Essential especially for slap but I find it improves my bass sound in every way. People who say 'no, I like to play with dynamics' either don't understand compression or have tried using it with a poor choice of settings (it's a hard thing to get your head around - ratios, makeup, threshold, attack/release). I like the MXR-80 as it has a gain reduction meter built in so you can monitor visually (as well as aurally) how much your signal is being compressed.

 3.
You could, of course, play G twice followed by Gb twice. It doesn't have to be complicated
Yep - this! Often keeping it simple (especially on a tritone sub) is the way forward.
 4. I have space for more students! If you're interested in studying electric bass in all styles, or fancy beginning guitar, piano, music technology, music theory or double bass - get in touch! 07729 224338. All lessons come with free cup of tea, coffee or soft drink
 5. Nice transcriptions mate! Having a play through now. Love Jack of Speed, some great rhythms in that. I noticed that bar 25 isn't quite right - should be C# D D# on the hits. Great choice of tunes and please keep them coming!
 6. Hey all, On Monday I head out on a cruise with a jazz trio. We are playing on ms The World (Newspaper article about the ship here) and will be playing for almost three weeks, 4 x 45m sets a night! On double bass! Any tips for me on avoiding injury, how to keep my fingers in good condition and keeping it fresh? We'll be playing standards and jazz arrangements. During the day I'll be either exploring onshore or practicing and transcribing on my electric bass guitar in my cabin. Cheers! Mike
 7. Here are some better quality pictures of my recent limelight. Based on a 1966 Jazz bass, I asked Mark to do a P/J with the controls master volume/blend/tone - much preferable to me! Custom P/G with correct tuners (butterbean/lollipop style). Sounds fantastic!
 8. If you send an email the guy is very helpful!
Thanks Mike. They are out of stock, but I'll keep looking
9.
Lovely looker Mike. Whilst we are on, any chance of a link to the German lollipops please? Cheers, Karl.
Cheers. Here - the lollypop HB2. Spain actually, not Germany! http://egilegorbasses.com/egilegorbassesshop/en/tuners/20-hb2.html
 10. My limelight has arrived! 66 Jazz style, but P/J, with Master Vol/Blend/Tone. Note the tuning heads I sourced in Germany It's a little lighter than the dark sherwood green I was going for but it's still lovely looking. Mark forgot the chrome pickup cover over the P pickup but that's ordered and I will fit it myself. Looks fantastic and amazingly authentic. Sounds wonderful too! 11. thanks - I won't be there but I'll keep it in mind. Looking to A/B it against my 12". How loud can we go at your place?

 13.
Sooooooooooo......... 60's jazz (stacked knobs), heavy relic, rosewood board with block inlays and bound neck. As for colour, I've asked Mark to match the green from the Mexican flag (it's something like sherwood green), I've spotted an after market scratchplate which is the Mexican flag and it's also relic'd, so I'm going to try adding that when I get it. If it looks crappy, I'll stick with a white plate. Also matching headstock.
Interesting, last month I ordered something quite similar which also had the higher price (around £1200). 1966 Fender Jazz in Sherwood green with rosewood board & pearl blocks, matching headstock, butterbean tuners, light relic - BUT - it going to be a PJ, with vol/blend/tone, and an ashtray over the front P pickup, with a custom pearl jazz pickguard. It was based on the Fender Adam Clayton model I really like the look of:
