bass bod, who were you playing with?

Im looking forward to my NYE gig. I live in a wonderful town (Deal, Kent) and we have epic fireworks on the pier at midnight. My gig is 2 minutes away and we break for the festivities, watch the fire works and then do another half hour of 80s stuff. It's a duo and I play guitar and sing. It's in my local and we are both from the town. I wouldn't have bothered if it was anywhere else. We're getting 160 quid each. There's virtually no travelling and the pub always buys us a few beers. What's not to like

I've had a couple of wonderful basses that I could not get a great sound from. I had a JayDee Mark King. Too complicated but played beautifully and amazing build quality. I then had a Hamer Scarab. Great bass, didn't like the sound. Various others along the way but I discovered that a P bass was THE sound I was looking for, I had a 62 and a 73 at the same time. Sold the 62 as my 73 was better. I still have the 73, 28 years later and I'm still gigging it

Does anyone remember Rotosound Spacer strings? roundwound and black coated? used them a lot in the early 90s but I don't remember what they were like, they looked cool

yep, I've been using swing bass for the past 10 years. no problems

yeah, really quick set up. I even used a little of the drive all night on sunday. Sounded great. My ampeg sounded great too, which I'll keep as a spare

I've done 2 gigs with it and I must say I am very impressed. It's loud too

These MIJ basses are superb. Mine is only the 2nd one I've ever seen

yes it does make it a bit louder but I've never had any success with compression so I don't know any difference

Finally I can announce the arrival of my new amp. After a false start last week, (it had a fault) and unbelievable customer service from Ashdown themselves (the shop I bought it from didn't have any to exchange) It turned up today. Ashdown actually sent me the replacement BEFORE they had received the faulty one back. Anyway, what a great amp. I dialled in my sound in about 30 seconds. Bass up to 3 o'clock, mid to 9 o.clock and treble up to 2 o'clock. The compressor is actually brilliant I think. It adds some thickness and evens out the slight string imbalance on my Fender Flea bass. The drive circuit adds that little bit of fuzz to the sound. I'll probably use a little live. It's not often I change bass amps but my last change was 6 1/2 years ago to ampeg and I loved it but I wanted to play British. (I know it's made in China but it's still an Ashdown) First gigs are next week, one with my Police tribute and one with my pub rock band

Yes you did, I should have re-read it lol I would do a New Amp day thread but unfortunately it is faulty and being returned for a new one. Sounds mighty fine when working properly though

I still haven't received my amp but the courier didn't have all the address it needed and then I was away. (it should be waiting for me today) But I found out Ashdown had their own black Friday event and it was a free gift if you bought either one thing or another. Turns out I qualified for a free set of their Bluetooth in ear meters buds, worth about 90 quid Nice work Ashdown
