1. I love P basses, and am soblooking forward to getting my hands on the vintage spec Olympic White / tortoiseshell plate one that Wes Steed has been making for me. If you get one, you'll love it. They're kinda harsh on their own, but in a band setting that tonal grit makes them stand out so well.
2. For The Love Of Money by the O'Jays. Bassline was originally played by a young Anthony Jackson
3. It's great to hear about good service.
4.
LOL.. did you record your conversation with Kent Armstrong? There was never any such threat of a law suit in anyway shape or form. Get Kent up here. He lives in USA by the way, not the UK.
Of course I didn't record my conversation with Kent, and all I had to go on was his conversation with me sftr you spoke to him. If I'd been misinformed, then I apologise. Still, I couldn't see any reason why he'd bring it up if it didn't happen. As for Kent living in the USA, yes he lives there now, but in thf 80's hd lived in the UK! when he returned to the states, his son Aaron took over the UK pickup builds under the Wizard operation.
5. Paul Turner (Jamiroquai) has all his basses set with high action - around 1/2" at the 12th fret. He has a monster tone whenever he plays. But, whenever I play his instruments up at "the dusty end" I find my fingers slipping under the strings due to the height if them!! Pino's basses are set with a medium action, not so low you can't dig in without thf bass rattling, and not high so it's s pig to play. I guess it's all down to personal preference, huh?
6. Thanks mate, ive only got my iPhone and could only grab the links as I posted them earlier,

8. I just remembered something about Ken Smith that I'd completely forgotten about. Back in the 80's I saw the famous pic of Anthony Jackson in Bass Player sitting with his 6 string Smith bass. In my young mind I thought 'wow!' and decided I wanted a 6 stringer for myself. I couldn't afford the USA prices plus import tax and duty, so thought about getting z UK builder to make me one. This was before the Internet and easily available 6 string pickups and bridges. I got a local milling shop to make me z bridge to my own specs. I called Kent Armstrong about pickups and he told me that he actually made all of Ken's bass pickups but couldn't sell me a set as they were exclusively for Ken's business. Fair enough. Ken said he could make me 6 string pickups but I'd have to supply something to create the mould shape. I was gonna use a wooden dolly for that but wondered if I could buy a set of pickups from ken directly. I called Ken Smith and told him about my conversation with Kent Armstrong, and to save me the hassle of making my own template, would it be possible to buy a set directly from himself? Unfortunately he said 'no' which I understood and fully appreciated. Put phone down and think 'okay' time to do done shaping work myself. 15 mins later Kent Armstrong phones me to ask 'did you just phone Ken Smith?' - yup. Kent tells me Smith had phoned him screaming down thf phone that he was gonna sue Kent for breach of confidentiality about who made the pickups and called him 'a total ass' for even discussing things with me. Needless to say, Kent was not amused by Ken's attitude Nd went on to make mr a great set of pickups. So, in my opinion also, Ken Smith will always remain a complete w***er.
9. I had John Diggins make me a gorgeous GA24 bass back in the mid 1980's and it was a fantastic bass. I still love that old Jaydee sound and am seriously considering getting another Jaydee (probably a 'Mark Xkong' style Supernatural this tome around). Good idea? Opinions please guys.
10.
I'm pretty sure that Palladino used a fretless Pedulla Buzz on "Playhouse down"..
The recording was done on his fretless Stingray, but you are correct in recalling that Pino used his Pedulla Buzz fretless on one of the videos for 'Playhouse' (the one filmed in the theatre). Pino bought his Buzz fretless to use on the Don Henley session for 'New York Minute' when he found his fretless Stingray had been sent back to the UK by mistake and he needed an instrument ASAP!!! oops!!
11. I've had Martin make me 8 Sei basses, and am currently considering another new variation. Whoever gets your walnut wonder will be a very happy bunny indeed!
12. Oh my goodness!!! I think that is my very first Sei Bass!!!! It was obviously fretless when I had it made for me back on 1995!! It's a great sounding instrument!!!
13. Playing in church is where I found my footing as a bass player. Instilled in me from the outset that listening to the other musicians and the audience, and being able to adapt to changes in mood, tempoand song structure, has set the foundation foe everything I've done since.
14. Alan, Ged's black and maple bass is the old 70's bass with neck replaced by a Fender Custom Shop one. I prefer the White blocks and binding rather than the black of the old neck. As for so Many experiencing poor sound, I'm glad I experienced the amazing sound and atmosphere at the back of thf hall at the Glasgow gig!!
15. A 'z' black plate is a special one for idiots like me who can't type properly!! Hahaha - should have read 'with A black plate'
16. I wanted a tobacco sunburst unlined 4 string with z black plate and 2 band EQ. Couldn't locate one anywhere so ordered one from Ernie Ball in their next production run, Nice, isn't she??? 17. Glad you like your new Aguilar GS112 mate, and sorry for getting you out of your bed so early matey! Hahaha
18. Took Gav's new Aguilar GS112 through to him in Edinburgh. As always, he's a top bloke to deal with. No hassles, and is a genuinely nice guy.
19. Seasick Steve just posted on hid Facebook page that he's on Jools Holland tomorrow night with John Paul Jones on bass!!!
20. You have to go via a dealer - inless you're a VERY high profile player (which obviously, I ain't!! Hahaha )
21. I clicked on the link and moved away from my iPhone for a minute. Heard the noise and thought it was someone at a typewriter! What's this obsession with trying to get loads of strings and sound like a very poor guitarist with awful tone? What's happened to the joy of playing big fat real thick bass???
22. Sold pending payment. Thanks everyone who contacted me, you guys are great!!!
23. And here's some pics of the top and bottom of the cab to show there's no snags, rips or stains. 24. 2band EQ system for me. I know Pino's one was a 3 tone burst, but his one is really faded out so looks more like a 2 tone / tobacco burst these days. Hence the reason I opted for the TB on mine.
