1.
Also a B side of something or other
Beat Surrender double pack 7" if I remember correctly...
2. Is it possible someone's already bypassed the capacitor in your 75 4001? I've done it to all my old Ricks that had it fitted as standard (it's just that capacitor that's added back into the circuit when you engage the vintage tone switch).
3.
I wonder about the need to struggle with anything large and heavy these days. We played a gig yesterday afternoon in a pub garden (bit cool, but nice and sunny) and I took my TC Electronic BH250 and RS210 cab. Because it was an outdoor gig I also had my RS212 in the car just in case I needed a bit more volume but in the end I didn't need it. The vocal-only PA was a Yamaha stagepas 212 (200W I think) and that was also more than adequate.
Quite - and I have downsized my rig considerably (in fact I was a pretty early user of the RH450). However even my RS212 becomes pretty large & heavy when I've carried it half a mile (from the nearest available & legal place to park). Weighted 88 key keyboards tend to be rather awkward too, as are Taurus 3s. Most decent people will get out of the way when they see you carrying a kick drum, but there are often people who don't. However, to be honest I have the same gripe about people being deliberately awkward when I'm carrying a guitar stand - someone blocking the way to the stage is behaving ignorantly regardless of what I'm carrying. Here's what disappoints me about the live music scene these days. Last night I played on a bill with five other bands. The venue was very pleasant & the sound guy was good, personable & efficient. A wide range of music was presented, including a singer songwriter on piano, Americana, folk, LA punk & an accomplished pop/rock outfit. Although it wasn't all my cup of tea, all of the acts were good at what they did and I'm pretty certain that most people would have found something there that they enjoyed. Each act was well received by a warm audience. However I'm almost certain that there wasn't a single person in that audience who wasn't either in one of the other bands or a roadie or mate of one of the other bands. A night of great original entertainment and nobody beyond the bands even cared.
4.
1. Difficult loading in/out through narrow doors and p!ssed-up punters into tiny and unsuitable spaces;
Why is it that when you're obviously struggling in with something large and heavy, so many people seem to see that as the cue to block the narrow passageway between the bar and the stage and stare at you blankly, as if waiting for a fight? Fortunately, most of these types seem to leave before the gig itself.
5.
You've answered my question with another question! By legal ramifications I mean, can Mr.Hall take any action against someone (and/or an entity hosting someone) selling genuine used Rickenbacker product?
I thought my question would help you to arrive at the answer for yourself, but evidently not. I'll phrase it differently then. A seller can claim that an item they are selling is a genuine Rickenbacker product, however Basschat cannot verify that without time and effort. It's simply not worth the risk & hassle.
6.
Sorry to keep banging on about this, but could someone answer a simple question for me please? If I wanted to sell a genuine Rickenbacker product on Basschat (if there wasn't a ban) and there was absolutely no question as to it's authenticity, would there be any legal ramifications?
Who verifies this? That's the problem!
7. Despite feeling the occasional desire to add to my little Rick collection, I think things are fine on Basschat the way they are to be honest. We can still discuss Rickenbacker products, but the forum faces no legal threats - justified or not - while operating the current system. There are other places to buy and sell Ricks if one feels so inclined & I don't think their second hand sales are really damaged by exclusion here.
8. There was a hot tub in the artist area at the last festival I played, though sadly no hookers (or cake).
9. Most of the musicians I know don't count at all - not even subconsciously - to my occasional annoyance! I was totally confused by Annoying Twit's way of counting when I first read the post, but I guess as long as it works for you, that's all that matters (and I can see how it works now).
10. Many moons ago, I tried to do something similar with a set of PK5s and a PC running only a software sampler and drivers for a soundcard (midi input). Fortunately I tried it at rehearsal first, where it worked for a while but suddenly locked up mid-song. I immediately went out and bought a dedicated rack mounted synth/sampler which has never let me down. I guess Macs would be considered more stable and I've seen them in use on stage running Logic before, so I suppose you could try the EXS sampler and load it with some Taurus samples or similar (not sure about midi interfaces for Macs). However I have to admit that I'd feel safer using a Roland Fantom XR (my current setup) or Moog Minotaur with my PK5s. I believe one or more of the Nords also does pretty good bass pedal sounds.
11. So, has anyone seen these at a particularly competitive price?
12. We were right by the main entrance on the O2 shop pop up stage and started at 3pm. Sarah, vocalist with Starlane, is a great singer/songwriter and deserves to be there without a doubt. She mostly performs as part of a duo, although myself and the drummer have played with them before. I did feel up against it a bit due to the loss of her musical partner in the preceding days, but the guitarist she got did a great job even though his approach was quite different. We were fed and watered and had a quiet area to chill (and in our case have a quick run through). I guess something like this is about the opportunity to promote yourself and she did attract quite a crowd, as did the other acts on the pop up stages. She had a spell signing stuff at the merchandising area afterwards and plenty of people came along and quite a few bought CDs. Had a great day, despite everything that fate had thrown our way in advance.
13. First visit to such an event as it's not a genre I'm particularly familiar with. I played a short set on one of the pop up stages with a fantastic vocalist who used to sing in one of my rock bands. Flying by the seats of our pants a bit as she lost her guitarist earlier in the week and we had to quickly put something together so she could still play yesterday. Had a lot of fun even though I think we'd have been a lot better with a couple of rehearsals. Still, I don't think we disgraced ourselves, she sang brilliantly and we got a good response from the crowd. Met some nice people and heard some great players throughout the day.
14.

Sorry, but despite what Geddy Lee is playing in the video, he is 100% adamant that the recording is actually his Jazz.
15. You haven't got one of those expensive plug-ins - the ones that replicate vintage gear right down to the mains hum - running have you?
16. One step away from being Trigger's Broom.
17. I've got one, if you're still looking for someone to try your card...
18.
90p for a cappuccino ?( if I stay for half an hour) . Bargain. I know there's corruption in Russia , but this sounds too good to be true. What's the name of this coffee shop? Is it a chain ?
You have to make the coffee yourself by the way!
You even try wine in a restaurant before you buy it.
Really you're only checking that it hasn't gone off though, rather than whether you like it or not. Though most pubs (all decent ones!) will let you sample their ales before making your choice. I can see why the shop might think it a good idea, but I think charging people to try instruments would put people off shopping in music shops altogether.
19. For me, Geddy's best sound was around the time of ESL/Signals (Rick & Jazz both sound great), although I quite like the raw sound on AFTK as well. These days, although his studio sound is OK, his live sound is quite disappointing in comparison to the old days. In fact I think the whole band had a better sound in the late 70s/early 80s. I think the P sounds good on the first album, although I suspect he wanted the Rick sound (which is why he went out and bought one as soon as they got their advance).
20. Haven't rehearsed in that area for a while, but I remember Music Room was good. Used to use Creekside/Cybersound, but last I heard, that was closed. Have used Rogue in the past and that was OK too (a bit cheaper, I think).

22. I once played Kiss Like Judas by It Bites in front of their keyboard player John Beck. I remembered when I got to the middle bit that I hadn't really worked it out properly (although I played something that fitted). I think we might have done a couple of other It Bites songs that night too & probably not the best we'd ever played them. He was very gracious about it all, quite complimentary considering what we'd done. Really nice guy actually.
23.
What's Phil got in his mouth about 16m40s, at the end of Moonlit Knight?
I believe it's some sort of bird caller.
24. Update on this: Decided I wasn't totally happy and replaced the pickup with Seymour Duncan SPB-3, which has made the difference I wanted. Although it now has a bit more low end than ever, it is closer to how it was when I first got it. I can only assume that the previous pickup had somehow deteriorated over time.
25.
Depends what you put them through IME. Through the small Ashdown combo at rehearsal mine sounded a bit flat but through my Hartke, with a tweak of the shape control, it sounded like the biggest 4001/4003 you ever heard, and I have the 2 best-sounding 4001s (IMO) I've ever heard to compare it against. Amazing sound, possibly the best I've had, and gutted I had to sell it because (ironically) the ergonomics didn't suit. Having said that, mine sounded a lot better than the other one I tried in the shop.
I recorded with it the other week & it still sounds great. I had to tweak things a little when I first got it as my amp setup was based mainly around 4003/4001 basses, but I've managed to find a point where I'm getting great sounds from my presets with any of my basses. To the OP, I'd say if you want one, get one!
