1. Thank you Nathan. I've just seen this section today. Indeed, it was a pleasure during whole process (with the exception of trying to find somewhere to park near a cash machine!). The bass plays really nicely. Thanks again
2.
I can't think of the album it's from now but I think that he's got it note for note there
It's On the Silent Wings of Freedom from the Tormato album. I've got a cracking live version of this from Wembley...somewhere. It's a Chris Squire Rickenbacker he's playing there too.
3.
Good on ya! A bit of a challenge that one. Every Rush song has a great bass part. Have you looked at 'territories' or 'analogue kid'?
Wandered into this thread again today for first time in ages... We finally got Mission nailed after a few weeks of playing it through. Once we noticed that Neil Peart has changed what he does on the most recent tour, providing a much better cue for the marimba section, it fell into place. We haven't played Territories, but we did play around with Middletown Dreams from Power Windows - nice Wal sound on that album. We did Analog Kid for a while, until the guitarist decided it was boring to play. My Rickenbackers got a good workout on that one. To stay on topic, but with a total change of pace and with my other band: the most recent song I learned was Single Handed Sailor by Dire Straits. It's a fairly simple bassline, but providing the drummer's up to providing the right drum part - and fortunately ours is - there's a really nice groove develops in this song.
4. One of my tribute bands has a gig in Acton on September 5th. Please come along if you like a bit of Dire Straits/like Wal basses/fancy a night out in West London. Cheers Jon Dire Fakes Website
5.
Yes they both are what band was that then and I'll say to them? I've been playing with those guys in various bands for longer than I care to remember.
This would have been around 1986. I don't think we ever settled on a name and we certainly never got out of the rehearsal room (Berkley Street). We played two or three Rush songs plus some compositions of our own. I wasn't really cut out for Geddy Lee range vocals, though the guys persevered with me for a while - longer than they should have really. I stick to backing vocals these days! Please say 'Hello' to them from me.
6.
Just a quick bump, just about to load the tubular bells into the mini
Hoping to try and catch Abel Ganz at Summer's End, if I can make it. Are Davie & Denis still part of AG? I used to to sing - rather badly I might add - in a band with Davie & Denis.
7. Yes, I was sorely tempted to go for this when you first posted it here, however in terms of cash flow, the timing is just not good for me right now. Best of luck with the sale. I shall try not to think of it while I'm in Brighton tomorrow...
8.
That looks like Mark knopfler. it aint is it?
Unfortunately not, otherwise I think we'd be a bit more active. It is a Dire Straits tribute though.
9. A couple of my more active band:
10. After a little break while we settled in a new drummer, arranged weddings and had holidays, my Dire Straits tribute band is venturing out into the real world again. Only a few gigs arranged so far, but many more in the pipeline... 18 July 2008 The Boom Boom Club, Sutton Utd FC, Sutton, Surrey, England 19 July 2008 Hayes FC, Blue Moon Club, Hayes, Middlesex, England More details from www.direfakes.com As I say, more dates to follow. Be great to see any Basschat people there...please come up and say hello.
11. Thanks very much very much for the info Ped, I'll give them a call. I'll check out Castle too...
12.
Who are your band? I love Rush. They are the band by which all others are judged.
I suppose it is our aim to become the Rush tribute by which all others are judged. The downside of this is that we are still in the development stages, so you won't have heard of us (yet). It's sounding really good though...
13. Mission by Rush - working on this with my Rush tribute at the moment. Hardest bit seems to be getting the transition from the 5/4 bit under the first guitar solo to the marimba/bass unison part really tight (and the tail end of that part is a bit tricky too). Good fun.
14. I'm in West London, so Oxford certainly wouldn't be out of the question. Can you provide more details? Thanks.
15. Can anyone recommend a good manufacturer of custom made cases, or a good case repairer? I recently bought a Rickenbacker doubleneck, but the case was damaged in transit. Fortunately the guitar itself was fine. Insurance should be paying up, but I still need to find someone to actually do it. The neck angles are different, so to support them properly any new case would need to be custom made.
16. I'm on the lookout for a 5 string Wal. I would be interested if you were selling it and things didn't work out with owen.
17. Thanks for the welcome folks. Mart, the closest thing I've got to an 's' is probably the CS, which is totally different in sound to my other Rics. The pickups are different too though. I know a few people that prefer the 's' version. I particularly like the 's' look on a 5 string.
18. Hello everyone. I'm Jon, currently based in London, but about to move to the Kent coast. I've been playing bass for over 20 years and my current entourage includes: Rickenbacker 4003 Rickenbacker 4001CS (Chris Squire Edition) Rickenbacker 4003 (75th Anniversary) Rickenbacker 4080 doubleneck Wal Mk 1 Custom Fender Jazz (Geddy Lee Sig) The basses run through Ashdown amps. I like Rickenbackers a lot, as you can probably tell. Anyone thinking I might like Rush would also be right, but all the gigs I play at the moment are with a Dire Straits tribute band, which I enjoy a lot. I do get together with a couple of other Rush fans twice a month and run through some Rush - perhaps we will also start gigging eventually. I write my own material too, but there isn't much call for it these days. I'd really like to find and join a prog band playing original material.
