1.
Definitely a point I'd like to pick up on. Some tribute bands do a great job - lots of effort and finance going in to making a great show, which makes the ticket price more worthwhile. Pat on the back for them. What I do object to - and not mentioning the band's name, is paying 8 quid to see a bunch of bored..well, I won't even call them musicians, in jeans and t-shirts not even pretending to be 'the band' - whilst the 'singer' is under some sort of dillusion that he *actually is* the person he is doing a bad job of mimicking. We've all seen those bad 'X-Factor' contestants on YouTube who go on the show dressed as Michael Jackson.. yeah - really that bad!!
Are you saying the band are bad because they don't pretend to be the band and the frontman is bad because he does? In some respects, this applies to my tribute band, where the frontman of the original band is the only recognisable member to all but the most diehard of fans. Therefore only our frontman goes for 'the look' a bit, although he's certainly not under the misapprehension that he is that person. Not that we'd ever put in a 'bored' performance mind you, but to be honest there's not much point in the rest of us trying to look like the guys we're replicating the parts of - especially as with the exception of the bass player, the line up was somewhat varied over the years. We do wear 'stage clothes', but we're not studying 80s wardrobes... To the OP, I don't think there's really any difference. I like to see a good tribute play the original parts competently, whilst hopefully injecting some of their own energy into the performance. There are some things that have to be done a certain way though, and I'd say that applies to bands backing a solo tribute artist as much as it does to tribute bands. In many ways I'm really in a backup band to a solo artist - that's really what the band we're tributing was all about. Sometimes solo artists expect you to play parts in a certain way, tribute or not.
 2. Our guitarist still does (although he's got a better reason than most I suppose). Had to go shopping in The Hague to find this one.
 3. Aaargh! Wrong time. If I hadn't just paid for my holiday, I might have been heading off to Kennington this week (and I'd have a very angry wife). Not helpful I know...
 4. A band I was in was asked if we would be interested in taking part. Whilst Simon Cowell undoubtedly has a skill in spotting what can be successfully marketed to a significant proportion of the population, I seriously doubt that he would have had the slightest understanding of what we were about. As for the other two... We declined.
 5. They don't all have baseball bat type necks by the way. Some - especially the older ones - have very slim necks. Depends when they were made and there was a spell a few years ago when both slim and fat necks were coming out of the factory.
 6. Try before you buy of course, as tastes are different and as you can read here not everyone gets on with a Rickenbacker. However in contrast to the naysayers here, my Rickenbacker experiences are completely positive. I have six, all properly setup by me and they all play great.
 7.
IM sure there is someone after a wal fretless in the for sale forum..
I am, but not at that price I'm afraid. Lovely looking bass though.
 8.
Have you used it with your Wal. Now Wal are back in business I'm seriously thinking about ordering one as a birthday present to myself in another year or two. I'd love to know how it works with the Rebelhead. (Apologies for the slight hijack btw.)
I've only used it with the Wal at home. The distinctive Wal tone seemed to come through clearly, but I've still to try it in a band situation. I'll report back when I have.
 9. In the past fortnight I've used my RH450 and 1 RS210 in rehearsal with both my bands. To my ears, it sounds even better in a band context than it does 'at home'. It sat nicely in the overall sound of both bands, being clear and distinct without my volume being overpowering. Had to do a couple of quick EQ tweaks, but the controls are so versatile yet easy to use that it literally took seconds to get the right settings. Still really impressed...
 10. Amazing. Wondering now if I should sell mine (which has also lived in Ealing) as I haven't really used it since I got my Rickenbackers.
 11.
He's taking the p*ss, surely. It's all those guys applauding that worry me. I know he's better than this.... a lot better.
Errrrrm, I think you might have missed the joke here. Perhaps this will help explain:
 12. It's not though. That drummer's kit is large in every way (I think he's quite tall). The drummer in my old Rush tribute played his kit at a Rush convention. He was quite a bit smaller and was really hard to see behind it (not to mention the struggle he had in reaching everything). Wish someone based in Kent needed a 'Geddy'...
 13.
Regarding Andertons.... I ordered the RH450 + bag & FS for799£. They advertised it as in stock/shipping in 24 hours max Thats was the reason I chose Andertons.... hoping to get the amp this week for this Saturday's gig Now: I put the order on Sunday , Feb 28, confirmed my CC details on Monday March 1. The amp got dispatched on Thursday March 4th!!!! Let's talk 24 hours shipping The amp hasn't arrived, yet
I think you've been unlucky. I ordered mine from Andertons at 9.30am and was using it by noon the following day. Found myself in Colchester the other day & picked up an RS210 cab from the friendly chaps at The Bass Merchant. Tired it with a 212 as well & think I'll be getting one of those down the line as it added a touch of oomph at the very low end.
 14.
You can get that deal from Andertons: http://www.andertons.co.uk/bassguitaramps/...worth262316.asp
Thank you. Ordered and delivered in just over 24hrs. Only had a little play so far, but I like what I hear. Now for some new cabs...
 15.
Sorry, I am a southerner, but the idea is great I got my RH450, Bag and pedal for £799, just ordered a 212 inc cover for just under £500
Can you say where you got that deal? Thanks.
 16.
The horseshoes have been available on stock Rickenbackers for years now. Only with the recent demise of the 4001C64 and C64S have they passed into history again. Damn shame! I should've picked up a 4001v63 whilst they were still around.
Haven't you got a reissue one on your CS? There are rumours that reissue horsies may be available as a Rickenbacker 'boutique' purchase sometime down the line. I'm pretty sure the reissues don't work in the same way as the original ones. Cosmetically, they look the same, but they don't function in the same way (I don't think you'll find much magnetism in the 'shoes'). Being slightly 'on topic', I see one Chinese manufacturer was silly enough to include a faker in their display at NAMM, not a million miles away from RIC's own stand.
 17.
It is clearly well out. I'll have to listen to the album and see if it's on there. I find it hard to believe they let that slip through, no excuse for that.
Probably thought that all but the most die hard Rush fan would have taken the disc out before they got that far into the album (sorry, not one of my favourite Rush albums).
Hmm.. I bet we all play perfect basslines in our living rooms or whatever. Sometimes errors lead to new boundaries and expression. I dont think JPJ played many "bum" notes and if he did Mr.Page would have pointed it out!
That would truly be a case of 'pots and kettles'. Mr Page's playing is often extremely sloppy. One obvious one from the first LZ album: I Can't Quit You Baby, where Jimmy Page comes in far too early with the chords after the guitar solo.
 18. I don't think they have. If the gross take at the door was £902, then £134.34 of that gross take is VAT and needs to go straight to HMRC. Therefore it has to come off the gross take before any further deductions or splits can be made. They've charged the ticket buyers and it's included in the gross take, but until they take it off the gross take, they haven't put it in the pot to pass on to HMRC. If they don't take it off the gross take, where will it come from? We've agreed to pay PRS before & we simply adjusted the fee accordingly, so it was no big deal really. My understanding is that a percentage of the door take for a live musical performance featuring works written by composers other than the performers is due to PRS, so it's not just coming from the venue's license to play back recorded works. There's an expert or two on here that can probably clarify that. However, the venue or the artist can pay, depending on what they agree together. Either way, if you've agreed in advance to pay it, then that's probably what should happen really. I'd be upset about the 'venue expenses' though, unless they were in your contract. Might be worth checking the contract.
 19. What are the files stored on?
 20.
Ooooo! Real ones! Nice. VERY rare! This is all I can offer
Thread drift: Interesting. If you don't mind me asking, who made it? Back on topic:
Its an old shot and only lasted for a week or so but i guess it fits the thread title.
Nice. How did you come to have two (for just a week)?
 21. Here are my twins: Two Fender Jazz (Geddy Lee), although I've sold one now. Also in photograph are two Rickenbacker 4003 basses (I also have a 4001CS and a 4003s5). Mustn't forget the twin-neck twins, a 4080 and a 4080/12.
 22.
Wot, no takers. I wonder why that is then !
If this was Kent based I'd be really interested. East Anglia's just a bit too far for regular rehearsal (and in my experience, playing Rush properly requires regular rehearsal). Pity really. Although the little prog covers band I'm in does a smattering of Rush, I miss playing lots of Rush songs.
 23. I'd read the small print of any PLI additions on these things as many of them provide cover for the individual only, not the band that they're a member of. I imagine this could lead to complications if a compensation demand was made against the band as a whole (which I suspect it would be in most cases). We took separate band-specific PLI to cover all possibilities.
 24. I'm amazed that isolating ones are not enough, especially if he's only got his own vocals in his IEM mix. Has he got them in his ears properly? Unless he's an extremely quiet vocalist, I would expect the spillage from the rest of the band into his mic to only be really noticeable when he's not singing, if your on stage levels are as reasonable as you imply. Silly question perhaps, but if he cancels out the band completely, how will he know where he is in the song/what pitch to sing at?
