    Compressor help

Raising the input level has the same effect as lowering the threshold - so it seems like the signal level could be being raised by the FX level dial, and hence triggering compression at a lower threshold than you want. You could try lowering the gain earler on in the channel chain, and/or reducing the ratio, to reduce the compression.

Yes, could well be! The manual is not very clear on that point: "9) FX 1 LEVEL Controls the level of the effect of channel 1." ...which for the case of the compressor coud be taken as meaning threshold, makeup gain, or blend with dry signal

    Compressor help

Hi la bam - I'm guessing that the fx level knob relates to 'make up gain'... regarding what that means, and also 'ratio' and how all settings interact, best to read 51m0n's excellent blog on compression which is archived here: http://web.archive.org/web/20130215154741/http://blog.basschat.co.uk/setting-up-a-compressor/ Also worth reading this thread discussing compression when playing live: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/316618-live-bands-compress-bass-since-when/ Hope that helps!
  4. That looks amazing! I do love a well-worn in 70s maple neck...
  5. Amazing necks, mighty tones, I miss mine!!
  6. Bass Direct has a 3TS RW in over Christmas at £850 - I was sorely tempted but can't justify a fourth P (especially in January!). I've briefly owned a 50s which was great fun to play, and looked brilliant, but make sure you get on with the wide/shallow neck.
  7. Bet your SG sounds mighty through that setup! Love my V4B, mine's coupled to a Greenboy Dually (2x15), another fine combination.
  8. That's a beauty bagsie - love the inlays! GLWTS
  9. Added the weight - 10 lbs 6 oz of Brazilian mahogany tone and sustain
  10. A mere 5 this year - but very enjoyable gigs with much audience dancing

  12. Off hold and available again - apologies, but due to CITES restrictions I won't ship outside the EU.
  13. Cheers Chris, I hadn't heard that one! Much appreciated for the video and the breakdown. My goal next year is sight reading, and I'll certainly be looking through your Jamerson transcriptions.
  14. Indeed that makes sense - thanks Chris!
  15. Because if a Speakon is fit for purpose, but 1/4" less so, then it makes me think the 1/4" is there for cost savings (the pricier SVT VR has Speakon out). But I'm happy if (as Dan Dare says above) I just need to make sure the connection is secure and won't get knocked out mid-gig.
  16. Bug Powder Dust. Yes, I know the bassline is lifted/tweaked from 'open your eyes you can fly', but both Doug's clean verse line and 'space bass' chorus are incredible.
  17. Hmm - should I be concerned about my all-tube Ampeg V4B reissue having 1/4" out to Speakon In on my cab?
  18. Cheers! It is indeed a Limelight, you can see more here: Compared to the CS: - both relic jobs are excellent. The Limelight has been aged more, with lovely detailing around the metalwork and fingerboard. The CS has a gorgeous cracked-nitro effect. - I prefer the lighter body and the amazing neck/fingerboard on the CS. This is where this CS excels..the Limelight is not very heavy though and there are no problems with the neck/fingerboard, I just prefer the CS - both the Limelight and CS pickups are absolutely superb!
