1. +1 for a chisel tip and the 60/40. Get an Antex iron ...I've had mine for 10+ years with no issues and they are pretty cheap. I've got an 18w which I find perfect. Avoid irons with a pointed tip.
2.
Hmmm. Muff sucks bottom?
..Wrong thread!! http://basschat.co.uk/topic/62236-bad-jokes/page__st__1540
3. I currently have a set of these on http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ERNIE-BALL-SLINKY-ELECTRIC-BASS-GUITAR-STRINGS-POWER-55-110-ROUNDWOUND-/170721224700?pt=UK_Guitar_Accessories&hash=item27bfc727fc#ht_500wt_717 .. we play in a drop D# tuning and found thinner strings to be too jangly .. had to re-set up my bass, but I've still got a pretty low action without any buzzing even when digging in.
4.
It's this one
.. if the emulation on my b3 is in anyway accurate you will need the bass boost on .. but it should sound wicked! I've got the black 'russian' one .. it totally sucks out the bottom end.
5. My definition of cutting through would be.. being heard in the mix. i.e. not muddy and lost. It does ultimately boil down to the sound you are trying to create or replicate though.
6. What kind did you get? I have a russian (re-issue) .. as the post above states great in the house .. a little on the weak side live .. I've not tried a bass muff? The bass muff on my B3 sounds pretty big live.
7. - Fantastic! You'll not be able to calm your nervs .. but that's a good sign. When I stop feeling a bit nervous before gigs I usually decide it's time for a new band!
8.
Me, drummer, guitard: Black shirt, trousers, shoes. Girls: Red dresses. Horns: Multi-coloured zoot suits with matching hats, trousers, waistcoats, ties, spats and shades... I know. Apologies for low-quality pic.
ha ha you weren't kidding!! SSSSSSSSSSSSSSMOKIN!
9. Out of every bass I've played with / borrowed / gigged IMO you just can't beat a P's simplicity .. I find you get out of it exactly what you put into it. I play in a covers band and do and have done probably all the tunes you will do .. it always cuts through the mix no problem.
10. My only bit of advise is avoid light grey t-shirts! Stick to dark colours that hide sweat.
11. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 1 post to view.
12. I would recommend the Zoom B3 also .. I had a pile of individual pedals IMO the tone is 90% there .. but the control and flexibility is 200% there. For a covers band it is all I need (unless I ever need to use more than three effects simultaneously one the same song) For £150 (i.e. the price of one decent pedal) you get 99 to play with. The distortions are particularly decent as are the chorus effects .. for the "muse sound" I have found a bit of compression into two big muffs is a good start .. there might be better ones but it's not a tone I need very often .. I belted out hysteria during a sound check through a loud club PA a few weeks ago and it sounded HUGE!
13. http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/news/2556194/The-Scottish-Sun-investigates-vice-in-Dundee.html Only in Dundee would you call a ford focus estate a "flashy silver sports car" ... according to the article I got my pricing a little wrong (not far off though) .. having said that that was back in 2009 you might get a better deal now!
14.
would a few bricks do the same job?
?? interesting idea .. might chafe a little.
15. VERY nice man! .. Came very close to buying one in Vegas a few years back .. I'm def. gonna have to get one someday.
16.
Can you give me an address or more details. !!!! LOL (i can't get the smiley faces to attach to the thread - must be a work thingy ) Dave
http://maps.google.co.uk/?ll=56.466082,-2.957771&spn=0.001199,0.002411&t=h&z=19 ... they stand on the corner of Blackscroft and Peep O'Day lane .. pretty much every night. It's known locally as "sexy street".
17. Yahoo has all the answers you need http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090709185225AADJohg
18. .. is nobody else going to say it??
19. Pull one of the speakers out and find out if it's 8ohm or 16ohm .. if it's 16 then the answer is no. If it's 8ohm then yes you could. To find out you'll need a meter if it doesn't have it printed on it.
20. ..Lots of very nice nice vids and superb playing in this thread. The current band I'm in aren't half as polished as some of the bands I've been in BUT we always get a great crowd and have a great time. I'm usually a little more active on stage but i'm currently recovering from a knee reconstruction.
21. Oh .. and i'd def. go for the pink .. I'm not to keen on the pink thumb rest though .. don't know why .. it just looks a bit bent.
22.
Too right... each to his own and all that, but how can you say a 56 P-Bass is ugly when you play a Status Kingbass Artist, a foul instrument which is quite rightly criticised in bass playing society for resembling an unholy union between a shovel and a diseased banjo with rickets?
..You beat me to it!
23. I'd say so! ha ha .. guess it depends what you are putting into it. I do use heavy strings and dig in a fair bit .. for a pub gig upto around 100 punters I usually have the volume at 12, the treble at 10, the mid around 3, the bass around 10 and the gain at around 9.
24.
Do you get a discount because they are Scottish?
Nah I think it's largely down to he nick of them and their dependency on heroin.
