1. You'll not believe this ... I had the exact camping mat sitting next to my amp last night. Not anymore, I cut it up and used it to protect the ampeg head I'm sending to a fellow BC'r. I'll see if I can find a black one, I'll possibly Velcro it onto the cab to keep it tidy. Cheers for the suggestions.
2. ... I picked up my Laney NX115 today and gave it blast with my Terror Bass head. WOW .. I physically couldn't get the amp upto 12'oclock. Seriously great tone and serious air shifting ... only slight issue is when it was cranked the vibrations were causing the amp head to dance about on top of the cab! To the extent that I would be concerned at gig volume that the head would eventually hit the floor. I'm used to pretty heavy gear so this is a first for me! Any suggestions for a nifty way to damp the vibrations between the two? I could obviously sit the head on the floor .. but that's not really solving the problem .. just avoiding it. Ta
3. I'm not totally sold on the badge yet .. I've ordered the iron/sew-on one from http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170599125671?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_685wt_956 ... any other suggestions would be most welcome!! The honourable thing would be to take of the laney one and stick it on the front .. Cab arrived today .. really impressed with the quality (and weight!) of the cab for the price! Not had a chance to plug it in yet stuck in the office
4. Your English is superb. Cab ordered today grille cloth arrived from e-bay and looks the business.
5.
I'll take this please. Pm'd.
SOLD - thanks for the super speedy payment
6. All PM's reply'd to and it looks like it's SOLD! I will amend heading once I've got the cash in my bank.
7. Would really prefer pick up .. or could take to a 30 mile radius of Perth or Dundee. If I had the cash in my hand and a courier knocked on my door I would hand it over. I.e. if somebody paid upfront and arranged the delivery themselves, I wouldn't say no. One think to note .. the existing caps have been drained, so the amp should be safe to work on. However ... if you don't know what you are doing you could seriously hurt yourself working on these old amps .. if in doubt don't risk it and take it to a pro.
8. ... I KNOW I'm going to seriously regret this one day ... however. I'm putting up for sale my Ampeg 4VB head. I bought the head in about 2007 for £450. Since then It had worked perfectly until at a gig with various bands etc. a few years ago somebody forgot to plug in the speak cabinet and It blew the output transformer. I had the output transformer replaced with a brand new one from fliptops and continued gigging with the head since. At the end of last year at at sound check I heard a funny squeak coming from the amp and turned it off straight away. At home the next day I tried putting the amp on but realised the standby switch had become jambed (i.e. it won't rock) I took it to get checked out and apart from the melted switch (which I have a replacement for - which looks very similar to the existing switch and fits perfectly but is a little more modern looking) I was advised that the amp still has the original capacitors fitted and that a leaky cap caused the switch to blow. Since then I have been using a small Ampeg Ba115 combo to get me by and I was planning on getting the amp fixed ... HOWEVER I have just bought a TB500 head (well the wife has for my Bday next week) and have fallen in love with it's tone! I'm desperate to get a cab (hopefully by the end of next week) so I am keen to shift this head ASAP to get the cash together. I'm looking for £250 .. This is based on the fact the amp isn't currently working, the £450 I paid for the head and the fact the repair/service I was quoted was around £200 (? you might get it way cheaper than this .. alternatively if you DIY far, far less <- I'm just not that way inclined!) If it doesn't sell by the end of this week I'll probably take it off and get it fixed over the next few months .. Then possibly sell in full working order If the honeymoon period with the terror bass hasn't worn off! The amp is in great condition for it's age and only has 1 small tear in the grille cloth (clearly seen on the photos below) The amp has 4 matched JJ 7027A's which are only a few months old and I will also give you 4x new 6L6GC-STR matched tubes (I had them in my gig bag as spares in case something went wrong with the tubes in the amp). A bunch of photos I have taken tonight can be seen by clicking on the following link. http://photobucket.com/ampeg-v4b ... Any other questions don't hesitate to ask, price isn't negotiable.
9. Perfect! .. sounds almost identical to the wee sketch I did on a post-it yesterday! A photo would be braw .. did you just fold the corners and staple them down? or did you snip and lap? My concern with the latter is you would probably get fraying? You could probably get it nice and tight though .. I guess i'll know better once i've got the frame built and the fabric in my hand.
10.
Do it! That looks great, it's a very easy job to do! (BTW, i was the Rumbles guy )
Ha ha, nice one mate .. sorry for totally ripping your mod! I don't think Alex has too much to worry about, his cabs are superb .. I just don't have the cash right now! Plus you can't really copyright adding silver tolex to a cab and tipping it on it's side! Did you just fit the cloth directly over the metal mesh? By the looks of the laney cab it'll probably be easier making a wooden frame and Velcro-ing it onto the cab .. it looks like it is either in a few pieces and/or steps in and out a bit. Cheers for the comments chaps I think I'm almost definitely going to do this ... well i've ordered the grille cloth, and "the punisher" iron on (although I've been given pelters from a work buddy who thought that looked crud! .. I might have a look at belt buckles on ebay for some inspiration) .. just need to wait till pay day to get the cab. It's not my birthday till a week on Thursday so the wife has forbidden me to play with my TB till then anyhoo Anybody know where you can buy white "piping" in the uk? Found a few places in the US on ebay .. I suspect there is a different term used to describe it in the uk?
11. Having seen a guy on here mod a couple of fender rumble cabs to look nice and vintage, I am currently considering doing the same with a Laney cab for my terror bass head. Before and after fitting grille cloth, piping and badge ... No idea what the cab will sound like on it's side .. if it sounds guff I'll rotate the badge around 90 degrees.
12. I'd been keen to try it with the sp212 .. my local shop told me orange have them on hold just now due to the cost of the neo speakers .. I was initially asking about the sp210 as I have seen a number for sale less than 300, part of me is still very tempted to give it a try however the terror driving the OBC115 was the nicest sounding combination I have ever heard.
13. Yip.. couldn't leave the shop without it! Got a good deal also £435 played it though a OBC115 and it was sublime, not half as 'dirty' as I was expecting .. just so perfect. The OBC115 is definitely the cab for that head .. just need to sell all my old gear now to get the cab. I honestly can't see me ever getting tired of that sound. Played a gig with my little ampeg last night and i just couldn't enjoy it after spending a few hours with the orange.
14. Cheers for all the comments / links .. my current leaning is towards the TB with a midget or compact cab. The barefaced cabs with the silver grille cloth look killer! ... Just need to sell some stuff now! There is also an rs212 for sale on here which I'm mighty tempted to go and try :/ decisions decisions! ... Oh and after reading about Matamp bringing out a mini bass head I'm starting to question the orange head!! I can see me walking out the shop with it today tho
15. Nightmare! I was literally going to buy a terror bass head today, until u read this post! Anymore info on size / style etc? TB is now on hold /
16. .. Ignore my dirty looks towards the guitarist for not making sure I was ready at the start of the tune! lol ... I had just smacked the head of my bass off the sax players head and knocked it well out!
17. I'll be doing a set with the cherry bombz from around 9-12 this Sat night at the Bond in Dundee free entry etc.. Will be doing a rock / pop / punk set all covers. Here is a wee clip of us playing from last weekend at Dexters in support of the Sex Pistols Experience. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iXBU7HNFlo
18. I woulda popped along dude .. but playing down at the bond tomorrow. Hae a good one!
19.
I still use mine everyday.
I thought you had a RS210? What's it like with your TB? Plenty loud for a pub gig? I'm warming to the idea of sticking one of these under a TB head ..
20. Anybody tried one of these cabs along with a terror bass head? I could be interested .. slightly concerned about the 300w rating though.
21. Cool cheers for the speedy comments chaps! I'm totally sold on the terror bass head .. i've always liked ampeg amps .. i've dabbled with modern gear and ashdown .. but orange to me sounds like an ever better ampeg than an ampeg .. <- I don't even know what that means. So that's the sp210 out the question! .. Any recommendations for single smallish (around the footprint of the ba115) cabs that will rock a 200 strong crowd? I had considered the OBC115? but it's a bit heavy .. The TC cab might be an option .. i don't really like the look of them (aesthetically) though. Cheers for the warm welcome. oh .. here's a wee vid of my current band playing in dundee last weekend in support of "the sex pistols experience" the crowd was about 200 strong .. I was borrowing an old laney amp .. was farting like a mofo on stage but it sounded ok in the mix. http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&feature=endscreen&v=4yipv7Io46g The cab would have to be suitable for a gig like this for example. PS. The majority of our set is a little more rocky than x-ray spex!
22. THE QUESTIONS -> 1.) Will the terror bass head through the SP210 be a decent bit louder / punchier / bassier and have more clean headroom than the Ampeg BA115? 2.) What is the best option for pointing the SP210 towards your head (or hearing it) on a tiny stage whilst still getting the sound into the pub and without the terror head falling off the back? The boring back story I I V I'm Hopefully getting a terror bass head from the Mrs for my 30th in a week or so ... been playing my old fender p with a V4b through a large 2x15 cab for years but a few months back the switch burnt out on my v4b and have been told it needs a cap job done. Since then I've been using a little Ampeg Ba115 which I have been pretty surprised by (in a positive way). I play in a pub rock band most weekends in front of 1-200(max) people with no PA bass support but not too loud a drummer. (bigger gigs I use a hired back line and get lots of PA support) The BA115 has been almost loud enough for all the pubs i've played in .. but it does struggle a little and gets a little farty when it's cranked to the max .. although it has made me realise I probably don't need to be carting around a massive rig for the kinda gigs i'm playing! Hence giving the terror bass head a bash. (if I like it I'll probably sell the v4b) I'm not interested in comments based on the spec of the equipment .. the BA115 with the mids boosted gets loud for a 100w ss amp the fact it's a kick back is also great for hearing yourself on small stages .. It does start to distort after about 12o'clock on both the gain and master and lacks a little gutts though. Has anybody had experience with both the amps / combinations? .. oh and hello from a long timer creeper, first time poster! x
