1.
What's this stickery crazyness?
As you obviously have an assumed name, we give you a name badge so people know who you are....! (Adds Timloudon to list).
2.
hello! Last week I've tried some combos and heads Markbass. I was stunned with the sound of their products! I'm thinking get one Markbass TA 503 but I've never tried one (the specifications are what I'm looking for). anyone has or have tried one? or another Markbass head? This brand is very nice so I may consider buy another one (if this head doesn't worth it). Suggestions are welcome! http://www.markbass.it/products.php?lingua...t=1&vedi=65 Thanks! PS: sorry the bad english! lol I'm portuguese...
Nice Avatar, had to look twice!
3. however last time i met people off the internet there was screaming and woods and police.........oh the terror... and dogs?
4.
I'm hoping to come along to this, what's the deal regarding 'security'? if we bring our gear along, and then leave it lying around while we're drooling at other peoples, how do we know some scrote (from the general public, not a forum member obviously) isn't going to nick something?
This was a concern of mine at the last Bash and it proved to be ill-founded and I suspect there will not be many people just wondering in off the streets at this one. However at the risk of turning into Keith Lard (aka peter kay), H&S is everybody's responsibility so anyone not wearing a name badge is obviously a potential thief and should be challenged.......! I know some other measures are going to be put in place but to publicise them on here would be rather self-defeating! So, wear your badge with pride and remain vigilant!
5.
If you need tuner spares, you might want to keep an eye on this auction: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Hohner-The-Jack-Head...emZ150324149639 Looking at the pics, are you sure that split isn't fixable? It looks like it only crosses a little way into the centre neck lamination, I think it might be worth having a go at glueing it up & clamping it. I'd strip off the hardware for a better look. Do you have any plans for the case? I have a B2A as my gigging backup & am always a bit nervous taking it out in its little PVC gigbag - it could do with some armour-plating! Jon.
Hi Jon Thanks for the heads up: the ebay listing could be a quick fix for the stripped thread on the D tuner string holder, the screw is actually fine. The split is OK from the front but at the back goes across at an angle and further in...I've taken everything off and it literally hangs together with the pickup frame screws. I'm taking it to the YBB so will sound out some opinions from the learned luthiers and others who are attending re fixability. If I do set the neck in a different shape body the case will be no good.....it really is bomb proof. I am 17 stone and could stand on it, just like someone did on the Bass I reckon! Cheers keith
6. 1962 Sunburst Gibson EB2 and loved the way the bass underpinned those Motown sounds, even in 1974
7. We played a friend's birthday in Victoria Hall, Saltaire. One important detail they forgot to mention was the Sound Meter on the wall: and no extension cable to run in another power supply! We tripped it once during "Crazy" so we all spent most of the 2 sets watching the meter hoping it would not trip out again! I taped over the grills on the meter but it did not seem to make any difference. The other detail they did mention was the lift was broken: 4 sets of stairs up to the first floor! The guy who plays the father of the new chav family on Corrie ( Steve Huison) was there, he has an act a bit like Borat which was quite funny, apparently he's played Glasto doing it too. Our guitarist lent him his pleck for his 3 string plucked thingy. Needless to say he's nothing like his character on Corrie!
8. Here's some photos of the broken bass: I'm thinking of doing a singlecut type body for it rather than the blocky original. This Bass and case can be viewed at the Yorkshire Bass Bash. 9. Do a search as there has been a discussion about this bass a few days/a week ago! Just realised it was you asking about it earlier in the other post, not having re-read it did'nt someone say it was OK?
10. You have to laugh, I clicked on another bass and the recommended accessory was a guitar stand at £79. Curiousity got the better of me at that price and it was this:http://www.reverb-store.co.uk/product-detail.asp?prod=906- multi bass stand, how did they know!!

12. I'll be bringing what's on me avatar/signature plus/minus the LMII depending on if I get it back from Playback by then. Oh, and my Hohner B2 4 string for a laugh as it is extremely unplayable currently......
13. I had a bit of a word with b2bm about this topic, his feeling was that everyone bring what they want (even if it means some duplication), as people are bound to set it up differently and it gives an opportunity to contrast and compare. Hope this helps! (Phil, as you are reading this feel free to contribute!)
14. Raffle Prize #3 7" single (45rpm) Whammy by Big Boy Bloater. Unused special edition from Mark Lamar, I sold my turntable http://www.bigboybloater.com/
15. Would have thought there would be some interest in that?
16. Haven't you heard of the MarkBass "Jeff Berlin" combo....?! ^_^
17. Jeff Berlin had a few interesting things things to say about teachers at the weekend...runs for cover! http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=509651
18.
Didn't the Indians buy Corus?
I stand corrected: a subsidary of Tata: don't they own Jaguar/LandRover too?
19.
There are a few factors at work here. The exchange rate is making US strings more expensive but once upon a time music shops sold loads of strings cos it was the only place you got them. Now they only sell strings in desperation and dont get the bulk discounts they used to get. So its a vicious circle of selling fewer strings for more money. At least Roto's and the Status strings I use (assuming UK made) should not be affected.
Only if the steel they use is GB produced and Corus (who are Anglo-Dutch) have just announced loads of job losses...
20.
In a word Yes ! Its not the cost that is the issue really. If you look after the kit it will give you years of use and be much easier and nicer to use with more consistent results. The main advantage is that you can thin out your finishing coats with say 20% paint and 80% thinners as this gives much smoother results as the thiners will "melt" the previous coat. Unlike spray cans though it takes a lot more looking after and you will need lots of thiners (buy it by the gallon / 5 liters) to keep the gun and nozzle clean. You can have custom colors mixed which is a bonus and if you prefer not to use nitro there are some good acrylic paints. You also need stuff like disposable filters to strain the paint and not forgetting a really good breathing mask. The main problem with spraying is where you do it and you will need a dedicated "clean" area. Cutting down on dust will save you hours of T-cutting later. As long as the delivery CFM is a good 30% higher than the gun capacity you should not have any problems. Bass bodies don't have a large surface compared to say a car so you don't need a huge compressor and the one in the ad looks just the ticket. They are also handy for spraying emulsion when you are decorating I used to restore and customize cars as a hobby so if you need any pointers just ask.
Cheers, that's brilliant info: if you make the Yorkshire BB we'll need to have a long chat.......!
21.
STICKER Planning to fulfil my obligations on the (valentines) night before, so should there. Only got non-exotic gear all strung with flats, do I still bring along? Cheers now, SR
Why not, the more the merrier: I too have a bass strung with flats, we can compare and contrast....!
22. She sat in with the Guest Stars.... http://www.deirdrecartwright.com/about/the...artwright-group Alison Raynor may have been that bassist...
23. A little bit of advice please? Thinking of doing a bit of spraying some necks and bodies some time in the future. What type of compressor and gun do people use? Or should I just buy aerosols: at what point does it becaome cheaper to use the proper gear? Does the compressor and gun need to have a minimum "delivery" for quality work? Would something like this do the job? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/S-I-P-HOBBYAIR-210-C...A1%7C240%3A1318 Thanks!
