  1. thanks for the help. The reverb calculator is a revalation - makes sense now! - divide 60000 by bpm - perfect! I had no idea what the 60,000 setting was on the pedal. ive got something pretty close now. Its killing me playing just 4 notes - never mind 8!
  2. Hi all, As part of our new project, im trying to recreate Donna Summer's bassline for I Feel Love. I know its a bit of a mystery of how to get the sound, but at this forst stage im trying to work out the DELAY settings on my Zoom B3. The bass line is pretty much 4 notes doubled up to create 8 notes, but theres no way i can play 8 notes in that pattern with that amount of effect, that accurately, for that long. Does anyone know how to set he delay pedal(s) so that theyre pretty much doubling up the notes? I know this might sound daft, but at the moment, the settings sound like 4 notes with much quieter echos - i need 8 notes (or 16) all the same volume and strength. I dont really understand the delay pedals or their settings, so any help is much appreciated.
  3. Probably an old 70s style lo fi Roxy music sound. Rich and deep with a bit of growl.
  4. Just thought id ask as this issue came around again with me after buying a new bass.... When I got my first few basses they were second hand and well used. They used to sit in the house unprotected not on stands and picked up whenever for a play. They had dints all over them and I didn't care. Then I got an immaculate fender isa p bass. And I couldn't have looked after it more. It lived in its hard case, was only used in clear spaces so it could get bashed. I did 3 years in a band before the drummer pointed out that I needed to get some dings and bashes on the bass for it to be a 'proper' rock n roll bass (all be it tongue in cheek - more a laugh at how protective I was of it). Then I Did get a ding in the headstock, and forever more it bugged me until I sold it 7 years later! I've since had 3 different basses that didnt really bother me, but now I have a metallic red Yamaha I've noticed I would absolitely hate any kind of scratch or ding in out! Does anyone else get this on certain basses?! They prob should get dings in them if they're gigging instruments!
  5. Not used the new ones, but used the original truesonics for djing. Great sound for the price, BUT, the driver in one went after a few months, despite being kept out of the red limiter. They also peaked early (volume on about 11 oclock) especially if you had the bass boost on. There is loads of reports of people having similar problems with the drivers online too. I hope they have shorted the issues for the v2s as they were really good value and sound.
  6. Hi all, Our dance band is coming along nicely now, and for our next song we have decided to have a go at "Indeep - last night a dj saved my life". I have worked out the bass line, but has anyone any ideas how to recreate that bass sound? It sounds so nice and full that it really compliments the bass line itself. Im just not sure what effects are being subtly used (im sure there are some as the line is so defined yet rich). Any help appreciated - Its a cracking bass line, and just want to do it justice!
  7. Hi all, I've a bb424 and love it. I never felt the need to replace the strings from new, like you do on some basses. The strings sound and feel great. Does anyone know what the original strings the basses come strung with are so I can buy a spare set? Thanks.

    drop in volume

yes, both pedals are powered individually by their own 9v supply.

    drop in volume

Hi all, My current pedalboard set up is: Bass guitar - ehx micro synth - zoom b3. However, there is seemingly a big drop in volume when the micro synth is ON. Turn it off and there is a big gain in volume again. Even if none of the b3 pedals or patches are on? Any ideas what could be causing this?
  10. Electro harmonic micro synth pedal. And a multi fx pedal for little extras when needed.

    A/B pedal

Hi all, Im just putting my pedal board together for our dance/house band and wondered if anyone uses A/B boxes for switching between basses, and if so could they recommend one? Just needs to be silent in operation and easy to 'stomp' between the 2 basses on the pedal.
  12. Nailed it! The micro synth did a great job, the trick then was to add some low gain distortion and some ambience from the zoom b3 which gave it that nice kick pad sound. I put it through the Ashdown rig on their own pre shape eq, and it sounded pretty much spot on with the rest of the band. Thanks for the help!
  13. I've got a great pair of Yamaha dxr12s (the nexo ones) don't know if they would have that 'bass cab' oomph though?
  14. Cheers all. I think I've got this pretty much there now using the micro synth and zoom b3. Taking to practice tonight to for it around the drums, then should sound great!
  15. How about a Yamaha BB424? Best of both worls with a jazz and precision crossover, slimish neck, great tonal variety - superb p bass sound if needed and save £1200!
  16. Do you use an amp modeller/fx/pedals etc to get your sound when going straight into the PA?
  17. Im sure others have thought of this before, but with amp modellers now becoming very good to be honest - the likes seen on several multi effects boxes - theres a lot of flexibiity to have several amp sounds at our fingertips rather than just one 'brand' with its own sound. Given that, if you did want to go down that route, what power amp would you buy (i suppose it would need a rich but neutral sound so as not to colour the amp models) and what speaker or speakers would you put with it? Would even 1 active cab (made for PA) work? and would a 12" be good enough?
  18. I have the 424 and love it! I got it in red (after never being interested in a red bass until i saw it) with the mirror chrome finish and it looks awesome - really catches the light when playing. Fantastic colour - photos on the interet dont do it justice.
  19. Ive had the MAG 300, the superfly and now a ABM evoii 15 with 2x10 ext cab. What i found is the Ashdown's sound on its own is never great. When i have found a great rich deep sound at home after a lot of tweaking then took it to practice it has completely disappeared into the drums. Revert back to the Ashdown pre shape and it cuts through fantastic. My advise would be to test one, and see if it has enough tone shaping for you and headroom before breaking up. If possible test alongside a drummer or drum machine to set a good tone against that. Start with all the eq flat then tweak from there. By far and away the best amps for band use in my opinion - ive never liked the sound on its own, but never sounded better in a band scenario - which is weird!
  20. thats great, cheers! ive just bought a second hand ehx microsynth so i'll see how that goes when i get it too.
  21. Thanks. I guess what i meant is that if that bassline (and effect) isnt played, or is played just as a bass guitar sound the song sounds emptyish. I'll try that fast envelope effect - is there any kind of decent envelope effect pedal that you would recommend (or multi effects)? I can wind up the valve drive on my ashdown abm for the dirt hopefully. Had to laugh - ive just returned to bass playing after 3 years off and promised myself id use a straight forward set up - 1 song in and im already looking at effects! Thanks for the help so far.
  22. Hi all, We are just in the process of doing a cover of killer by seal / adamski and I'm wondering if anyone knows of an effect or type of effect that can create the really full sound created for the bassline? It's quite a difficult sound to describe but it seems very full with some kind of reverb on? Any help appreciated.
  23. I've used the lowdown 300. They are ridiculously cheap to buy, and do a good job, as said without being outstanding or impressive. The low-down has a lot of modeling and amp emulation on, making for a big array of sounds. Not punchy or deep, but fine to get an ok sound from.
  24. Mani, from the stone roses. The most melodic bass player I've ever heard. You can sing all his bass lines. So many memorable ones, yet he doesn't get many plaudits. He shows great melody, great innovation and thinking and is part of a superb rhythm section. I am the resurrection Made of stone Ten storey love song I wanna be adored She bangs the drum Fools gold To name just a few.
  25. hi all, ive just purchased an Ashdown ABM C115 575w combo. ive been offered a 2x10 ext cab -question is -how would I connect the ext cab to the amp head of the combo? There is an available speakon socket, but next to that is the pre wired jack plug that connects the amp to the existing 15 speaker. Are these sockets for one output, or is the speakon designated for an extension cab? (so both sockets are being used). thanks.
