  1. Yes, it was really strange. My trib l100 used to slam and cut through a mix great, but I just couldnt get any punch out of the l2000 at all. No matter what configuration or amp settings. Some people make them sound great, but it just didnt work for me.
  2. It's the 4 string san dimas in blue. So versatile and quality.
  3. I think I'm going to go for the john east uni 5. I love the idea of it having pretty much everything: Passive/active. Passive tone. Bass (adjustable band) Treble (adjustable band) Mids (parametric). Flat or shape option.
  4. Brilliant in my opinion. I asked a question about my nexus all valve amp and they answered my question within a day and sent me a bag of replacement fuses free of charge in the post.
  5. It's absolutely everything about them (apart from the shielding).... The necks are superb. The luminous side fret markers, the high mass bridge, and the tones you can get in passive are unreal. Really loving it. Took some time to get used to where to put my fingers with it being a reverse p, but so comfy to play now and every note stands out. They're stunning in real life too, a lot nicer than the photos and videos.
  6. Great stuff, I'll give that a go. Does anyone know where to buy the copper tape from? And the wire? I did it years ago on a different bass using aluminium tape I think from b & q? Got to admit, I love this charvel.

  9. Hi all, Does anyone do prewired solderless preamps? I'm after one I can fit myself so ideally a solderless one. I'd like it to have a passive / active switch and 3 band eq. Also as the bass is a p/j I'd like a blend knob. So ideally.... 1. a volume pot with push/pull for active / passive. 2. A blend pot. 3. Treble. 4. Mids. 5. Bass. Does such a thing exist?
  10. In all honesty, no, unfortunately. It was the clf one as well. Really really didnt like it, no matter how much I wanted to. It was probably more to do with the band I was in, but it just didnt fit no matter what I did. Shame as it looked cool, sounded great isolated and I had a l100 which was superb and fitted any music without so much as a struggle. Just one of those weird things.
  11. In truth ...... I didnt like it. It sounded amazing on it's own- unlike any other bass. But in the mix ...... it just didnt work. No punch, no character. The only way I could get it to give a half decent sound was with what I considered the worst tone I could get out of it when solo'd. The bass i have now has passive and active options, so I'm lucky.
  12. I played for years in a queen tribute with flats. Really good rock sound. Adds a lot of punch.
  13. Hi, I'll have to check as I'm not at home at the moment, thanks. Off the top of my head it's a standard precision size, not daft wide like the 50s and not like a jazz.
  14. This is my superb John Deacon Bass Collection precision bass. It's in natural tan with a tort scratchplate as per John's bass in Queen. I used this in the queen tribute and it sounds fantastic. It is very smooth playing action, nice neck. The dimarzio model p pickups really add a lot of quality over the stock pick ups and lots of tones are available. These are also adjustable so you can fine tune to your specific desires. The babicz bridge is probably the best upgrade out there. The sound can resonant for a long long time if needed whilst giving a great solid tone. Tuners are great and have no issues at all. Everything stays in tune well. It also has a fender headstock logo on which isnt the greatest job, but no one will ever know unless they closely inspect and then its only the colour where I sanded it back. I'm not a logo snob it was done for a tribute band photo shoot. There is a knock which isnt noticeable when playing - kind of in the corner of the side and back. I've photographed best I could. So, it looks great, plays great, sounds superb and has great upgrades on. Collection Leyland Lancashire.
  15. I should perhaps clarify as I've got a bit lost - the bass sounds superb in passive mode and great in active mode. However I just assumed the 'active/preamp' side of things on all basses was almost just a boost or adjustable eq section. It didnt occur to me that the preamp would act in such a way to fully colour or affect the sounds of the bass. (it probably should have done). I see people with sadowsky, spector, darkglass and aguilar preamps and just wondered what impact they have, what difference they make to the sound and if there are comparisons etc.
