  1. Qhi all, does anyone have a link to these warman pickups? Also will they just swap straight in? I've the double humbucker Harley benton and that has the 5 way switch and is active?
  2. For me, Laney have this market sown up, if only more people tried them. The Digbeth 500 head looks lovely and vintage. The cabs are all 4ohm and the whole range looks vintage and lovely like old ampegs. Sound is fantastic. I like ampeg, but I can't get on board with those looks I'm afraid.
  3. With the decline of physical music shops on the high street, I thought I'd give promenade music in morecambe a great big up! Super helpful nice staff, x2 separate rooms for demoing gear in peace and quiet and to be fair the best bass collection I've ever seen. Loads and loads of sandbergs, rickenbackers, yamaha, Fender, squire, mark bass and much more. Makes pmts selection look like a small collection. Superb music shop. Highly recommended.

  5. I use a Digbeth head and it's superb. Really superb. If the pedal is almost the same then it's a winner.
  6. No. I don't know why, and it shouldn't do, but it's just one of those things that really annoys me.
  7. 100hz is the one! Flat and boost low mids. Job done.
  8. I had one and I didn't feel there was any oomph or grit to be had from it unfortunately. There's no valve or ability to affect the preamp, but to be fair there doesn't claim to be. I loved the idea of one, it just didn't work for me. ABM600 is a far better option.
  9. Just my opinion - and I'm not one to say don't follow your dreams - but I think vocational rather than academical is the way to go for music. I'm an average player compared to most highly educated players and those taught at college and uni, but I've got by due to hard work, luck and networking. Being involved in bands then meeting other bands, sound crew, lighting guys, venue owners etc. Learning promotion and putting events on. Being known as a reliable player people can rely on. Learning people skills and how to be likeable. Only my opinion, but I believe there's more chance of a career by diversifying and actually being out there, rather than studying music academically at college - especially with the fees nowadays. True, some make it and get in orchestras, touring parties etc, but proportionally how many don't? I can see how learning Bach inside out makes you a more rounded musician, but I don't see how it would make you more money. Make yourself an asset - learn your instrument well. Get out and play. Learn another. Learn sound engineering. Own some lighting. Learn how to promote. In short, make it difficult for people to get rid of you once you've got your foot in the door. Add to that, be prepared for late nights, humping gear around, dealing with people and pretty much anything but the playing side of things.
  10. 2 things I regularly see on these type of run downs - Some variant of a tech 21 unit and gk mb800s! I'm sure I saw duff from g n r used x2 mb800 as his main rig on one. Great to see Steve actually incorporating his pedal into the show though. Makes it more genuine for buyers of the pedal and not just a gimmick like some players do.

  12. I love rcf stuff. Heard loads of bands use them and they always sounded great. We use yamaha dxr15s in our party band and they're brilliant. Fill anywhere upto 200 easy. Nice sound, light, and mixer on the back too if your main one goes down. Just one word of advice, don't go for the dbr version - they're significantly quieter and worse quality then the dxr for only a few hundred difference.
  13. Open to offers. Ideal for beginners who don't want to spend a lot, pros who want a great sound and don't mind weight or for practice rooms. Make an offer, you never know....
  14. Whatever it was it was flipping heavy! Probably up there with the old heavy 4x10s in terms of weight. I used to lug one upstairs to practice every week.
  15. Yeh, but the last 3 sessions I've done we've not added anything on or altered anything and it's just fitted nice in the mix.
  16. I've had x2 of the v7 v2s - very nice basses. Looking brilliant and played well and sounded good. I've also just got a P5 and that's outstanding. I'd say a big step up from the v7s, much nicer finish, frets and sound.
  17. Does anyone here gig straight into the desk with no preamp or amp? I know it was a slight issue in the past with levels, but newer desks now offer direct input into the desk and good levels. (Z input or something?) and in ears or just a monitor cover the need for amplification. Only reason I ask as I've just done some recording again after a few years of doing none and I always go - precision - scarlet - laptop (ie no colour or preamp) and I'm constantly amazed how that sound just sits straight away nicely in the mix. So does anyone do that live?
  18. At the moment in the different bands I'm in im: Bass-lead-amp Bass-lead-preamp pedal-desk The best sounds I've ever had are just direct and no pedals. For some reason I always try pedals before an amp again and again but when I go back to keeping it simple it does sound better.
  19. I gigged with one of these in my first band as my first main amp 22 years ago. Decent sized pubs too. I had no idea how to use it, but managed to do alright. Good to see they're still going!
  20. Yeah, he does a couple that guy, really good sound and to be fair the amp sounds like it (ie not really doctored from core sound). Every review I've seen they love it - bullythakidd, jaycee, Anderton (but they love everything) and the bass channel. Lots of endorsees now including mcfly and Nathan East.
  21. Mine is really silent. I'm not sure it has a fan? It has vents like on a valve amp, not sure if there if there's one behind there?
  22. I've really really wanted one of these since they came out. I really think they're the best looking amp range, possibly ever. So a few weeks ago I managed to pick one up second hand. They're fantastic in the flesh. Real quality finish, quite substantial for a smaller amp and a nice weight to them. So far I've played at home, in an oasis tibute band into a gk 15 cab, oasis tribute into a Laney old school 4x10, u2 tribute into a cheap hartke 4x10 (probably the worst cab I've ever used) and used it as a Di pre into our pa direct for a party band. The combo with the Laney cab was definitely the best. All bands needed a slight adjustment due to different set ups, music and cabs as well as rooms. However it was so easy to do with either the 4 position mid selector or the quick adjust tilt dial (which is my favourite thing ever on an amp). It simply makes it lean more to the bass side or treble side without just boosting one frequency. Simple but genius. Also, what I liked was Laney actually describe what each mid selector does in both a diagram on the amp and in words in the manual. Nice touch. In every band the sound was brilliant whether using the solid state channel, valve emulated channel or both together. Really rich sound. It has that old skool presence like an old ampeg rig where it has the indescribable depth to the sound. Add to this the main specs including Di out, aux in and headphone socket and I think this is my favourite amp head ever. It sounds great no matter what, is easy to adjust, totally flexible and a one hand carry. The only thing I will add is these will benefit from a 4ohm cab - which the acxompanying digbeth cabs are designed for. An 8ohm is fine but you will need to push it a bit. Or use 2 For £395 I don't see a better amp on the market, I really don't. Cab wise now, I've wanted one of the vertical 4x10s but they're out of my price range at the moment. As soon as I can though I'll b e having one for a great looking, small, powerful quality rig.
  23. I'm not even sure that beta bass is a bass amp. It has reverb controls?
