  1. That's a great video from Anderton on the Z3 and z7. I definitely want one.
  2. The thing is the Digbeth will do anything from slight break up to full on valve drive, the abm I found very hard to get any type of drive and I've had quite a few of them. So if drive is your thing Digbeth is the way to go and you still have a clean channel when you need it.
  3. I've had and gigged both. Both great amps. Different amps, but both great. The 3 channels and the tilt wins it for me. You can really get a lot of drive and distortion if required, or a nice valve sound, and then flick to a clean when required. Or mix both. The tilt is great and a very easy way to get a great sound. Works really well. Looks really cool too. Light as a feather as well. Saying that, if you really know how to use eq to get the sounds you want the abms are great. I'd have either and be really happy.
  4. Not for me.. I couldn't care less.
  5. Several people missing the point here.... The tik tok and YouTube world love stuff like this. It's all getting attention, which helps views, ratings, subscribers etc etc etc. No doubt Charles himself will be loving the thread - good opinions or bad opinions - that's the game these days for this kind of thing. Views first, no matter what, hence the crazy freeze frame placeholder images, massive attention grabbing text and so on and so on etc etc. Ever wondered why all these you tune and tik tok guys team up and appear on each other's videos??? Hits, views, popularity, comments, subscribers, ads. Its not my thing at all, but it is now a different beast than a bassist doing a video about bass for basses sake, or for the consumer or players sake. It's all self promotion now.
  6. I've recently acquired a lovely sparkly purple kramer d1. Far and away the lightest bass I've ever had. Super light. Lovely thin neck, again the thinnest I've ever tried. And a lovely seymour duncan mm pickup. Nice and cheap, great sound too. No more back pain from gigging.
  7. Because (just in my opinion) it sounds better played on guitar or keys. Much better range on those instruments for playing solo versions of songs. If a guitarist played the exact same piece on guitar, or pianist on the piano, not many would bat an eyelid. It's the fact it's played on bass that gets the attention - but not for the right reasons. It's not a fantastic piece written for bass or a fantastic sounding bass part, it's just technically crazy difficult to do on the bass. Again, just my opinion, nothing against anyone doing it.
  8. I've never really understood playing crazy stuff that's obviously meant for a guitar or keyboard on bass. Yes, it technically unbelievably good, but what's the point? Just move over to electric guitar or keys to do it. There's a market for improving and expanding the instrument, sure, but the stuff they do is crazy and better suited to other instruments. Nothing against any of them though. Good for them.
  9. These are fantastic, and I mean fantastic. Best 250 you'll ever spend. GLWTS.
  10. I had always been a p bass player. Occasionally the odd jazz but then always back to a p. Then this year I tried the stingray style and it's perfect for me. I've even worked out why. It does that svt style thing where it plays the note you hit, plus that pillowy bass warmth underneath it really filling out the band sound. Covid affected business and I can't afford a real ray yet, but when I can I'll be grabbing one.
  11. Great video that is. If there's one criticism of sire, they don't do enough promotion. Their instruments are incredible. Although, I've no doubt they'll sell out straight away.
  12. Apologies for the long title.... I've been on bass now in lots of bands, pub bands, function bands and tributes etc. I'm comfortable on bass - still love it and everything about it. However, something is nagging me and I have a real nag to join on a band and play sax. I've not been playing long, but I'm loving it. However, I'm well aware I'd be playing at a poor / beginner sax level, so that might mean I join a start up band, a traditional raw pub band, or do I take a chance and try for a good band? (and hope they play easy tunes Has anyone else take big steps backwards to start again on a new instrument? How did it go?
  13. Quilter bb800 and ebs preamp pedal?
  14. Yes, nexus tube, nexus nx410, nexus 1x15, n410, and an old cheap 4x10 which was probably the best of the lot - but was waaaay to heavy and to wide to fot through doorways or carry. Great cab though
  15. I love Laney stuff. Some of the best tones I've ever had have been from laney gear. Great customer service too.
  16. Luckily, no one on here - but Facebook / Gumtree etc - different game!
  17. I've no issues haggling or being haggled. What is completely unacceptable is arranging a price then on pick up trying to haggle some more. That's a no no.
  18. Yes, you do need to spend a bit of time with the boss, but the rewards are really really worth it. In a band setting it's absolute class.
  19. I'd go with a Boss Katana 210 combo. Everything you need to sculpt most sounds. Every fx going. Store different patches. Tweek. Amp sims. Drive sims. Everything. They're around 22kg. But everything is there. Class a/b power section too. And loud. Proper loud.
  20. Been there done that, as has probably everyone on here. The amount of amazing basses that I'd loved that I'd just sold for the sake of getting a new one is crazy.
  21. Definitely slow at the moment. I think after covid everyone had about a year of spending then everything very quickly tightened. Just look at the stuff for sale on here. That would have flown out in a day before covid.
  22. Yes, the no built in tuner drives me mental!! It's got everything else in the world on it. .... And no tuner. Crazy decision. It'd be the perfect all in one solution if it did.
  23. I've been in a few good tributes, and left for various reasons. For me, it's about one thing - it's not the looks, not the sound, not the stage antics - but it's about the "experience". That's what makes a good tribute. A great night out. A good resemblance to instruments, costumes, sound, looks all help sell that experience. I also fully believe you need to have a bit of yourself in their too to make it appear authentic.
  24. x2 Chauvet LFS75 dmx gobo projectors. (listing is for both for £200). Amazing lights, simply add a gobo of your choice (have your bands name/image etc made) and point and focus and you're all done within 5 seconds. Much easier than backdrops and banners. Lightweight as the use a 70w led. (do not confuse with 70w worth of leds. This is a massive led, very very bright). Also has colour wheel, dmx or standalone control and more. These were around £450 each when new, so quite a bargain. Pick up Leyland Lancashire or could look at posting around 20-30 pounds.
