  1. I played for years in a queen tribute with flats. Really good rock sound. Adds a lot of punch.
  2. Hi, I'll have to check as I'm not at home at the moment, thanks. Off the top of my head it's a standard precision size, not daft wide like the 50s and not like a jazz.
  3. This is my superb John Deacon Bass Collection precision bass. It's in natural tan with a tort scratchplate as per John's bass in Queen. I used this in the queen tribute and it sounds fantastic. It is very smooth playing action, nice neck. The dimarzio model p pickups really add a lot of quality over the stock pick ups and lots of tones are available. These are also adjustable so you can fine tune to your specific desires. The babicz bridge is probably the best upgrade out there. The sound can resonant for a long long time if needed whilst giving a great solid tone. Tuners are great and have no issues at all. Everything stays in tune well. It also has a fender headstock logo on which isnt the greatest job, but no one will ever know unless they closely inspect and then its only the colour where I sanded it back. I'm not a logo snob it was done for a tribute band photo shoot. There is a knock which isnt noticeable when playing - kind of in the corner of the side and back. I've photographed best I could. So, it looks great, plays great, sounds superb and has great upgrades on. Collection Leyland Lancashire.
  4. I should perhaps clarify as I've got a bit lost - the bass sounds superb in passive mode and great in active mode. However I just assumed the 'active/preamp' side of things on all basses was almost just a boost or adjustable eq section. It didnt occur to me that the preamp would act in such a way to fully colour or affect the sounds of the bass. (it probably should have done). I see people with sadowsky, spector, darkglass and aguilar preamps and just wondered what impact they have, what difference they make to the sound and if there are comparisons etc.
  5. Hi all, I have an active bass and made the mistake of going down the youtube rabbit hole regarding active basses...... bad mistake anywho, I've had active basses before (a sire v7 v2 and a g&l l2000 usa) and I just assumed the bass was the bass and that was it and most of the sound is the pickups. Now I've seen people saying change/upgrade your preamp and itll bring your pickups to life! So, my questions are: Does the preamp really change the characteristics of your bass? Is it worth doing? What preamps would work well with a pj with dimarzio pickups in? thanks in advance.
  6. Just look at it as a new challenge with excitement. I've pretty much found whatever I play I somehow end up making sound like a precision anyway, so you'll soon get a sound you'll love.
  7. I used a behringer bdi21 with my svt810 cab sim and it sounded glorious tonight. They're stunning for the money.
  8. It's not one of those daft tone stack eqs is it? Where eq off is something like; Bass 2 Mid 10 Treble 0 (Sorry I've forgot what it actually is)
  9. Could be a displaced / damaged valve. Consequence of transportation I'm afraid. If the guys moaning about the weight he's probably thrown it around, or it's been thrown around en route to you.
  10. Hi all, This has probably been covered a million times, but where currently is the best place to get decent precision bodies and necks from. I mean untreated bodies, all pre drilled and routed, just ready for painting - and the accompanying necks? Cheers.
  11. The behringer bdi21 at around £30 new is phenomenal value - especially if you're trying preamps for the first time.
  12. Love that red gold and white one, that's really nice. Love that headstock too.
  13. That's an electron green finish. Itll cure p bass gas in an instant
  14. and this colourful beast might put you off.
  15. I have a set of dimarzio model p in my john deacon bass. Great pickup. However I also have a standard player precision and (after not having one for a bit) am now remembering how to use these properly. If you experiment with the volume you get different tones (with the tone on the same setting) - not just quieter/louder versions of the same thing. Opening up fully adds real edge and dare I say more wider or polyphonic sound. Winding the volume back gives some nice mellowed tones.
  16. Yeh, pirates rooms have some clowns messing everything up. We used to use the pre production room and literally nothing was ever right. Nothing was connected to what it was supposed to be, nothing worked apart from the odd pa top, and worse it gave some of us bad hearing issues. We now use the smaller room and it's better. Weirdly our drummer has to set up their drum kit every time (pro drummer) takes him about an hour to get everything right with the kit that's left in the room in a right state. Then magically 7 days later someone has come in and put it back to next to useless again!
  17. Fender have released a 50w Adam clayton combo. Tube pre and tube power.
  18. Just popped up on my fb feed. 50w valve pre and valve power. Combo. Decent adjustable frequency eq. Looks good. A bit pricey though.....
  19. Youd be amazed at how linked the legs are to back issues. Any stretching I do really helps.
  20. I had/have 2 prolapse discs and a damaged joint. By far and away the best exercises I found for relief and prevention are not back exercises at all.... if it helps this is what I did. Try slowly touching your toes when you can - stretch those calves. Try lifting your knee upto your chest when lying on your back. Grab it with your arms. Once you can do that lie flat and lift both legs in the air straight, so it works your core. Regularly tense your stomach so your body uses its core strength, not your back strength. Just what worked for me, but feel free to try if you wish.
