1. Rock sound = Tech 21 VT Bass!
2. Check out Wizard pickups, they are highly regarded on here and can custom wind a pickup to your needs if necessary.

Distortion?

Hmm, I would do the opposite and distort the mids/highs instead, keeping my lows nice and punchy. Nobody's mentioned it yet so I'll suggest a Sansamp BDDI / VT Bass or even a Behringer BDI21 (which is actually a pretty decent clone of the BDDI).
4. Should be 34" long scale (if they have the purple silks). These are awesome strings, i have em on my P!
5. Cheapest couriers I know of are parcel2go.com and interparcel.com.
6. Check out this Verbzilla video - the Octo mode is glorious! http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseacti...ideoID=10323439
7. I use flats too, Pyramid Golds. I started out on a Yamaha fretless with Status half-rounds (which feel just like flats but have a bit more zing) and when I got my next bass, a P with rounds, my missed the thump until I got the Pyramids on there.
8. Bargain - this pickup sounds great. I upgraded my Squier VM to a Fender USA but miss the bark this pickup had for pickstyle rock. If you have a cheapo Squier then put this in it!
9. Nice amps. This might get some GAS lit: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=464676 http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=509278
10. It's better if you do a full edit so you can put sold in the subject title to make it easier to spot!
11. Markl and Matty are after a PT2, might be worth sending them a PM!
12.
Does anyone know whether the Behringer V-Tone BDI21 can be used just as a DI box, rather than a tone shaper and if so does it do the job fairly well? Cheers JPS
If it's a clone of the Sansamp BDDI then yes - it has an XLR out and if you have the pedal in bypass mode and the DI should be unaffected but still output your dry signal.
13. I have a Carbon Copy, which does the subtle/warm thing very well, plus it can do crazy oscillation noises. However, if you're after a simple analogue delay I would go for the new EHX Memory Toy because it's only £52 new! The Memory Boy has a couple more features and looks cool too. I used to have the Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai. Great pedal, but I had a bit of a problem with digital clock noise invading my signal, plus the blend pot on it reduces your dry signal as you add more delayed signal, which means you get a volume drop at some settings, especially apparent when setting it up as a basic looper. You should check out the Digitech Hardwire DL-8, looks like the best value digital delay / looper out there at the moment and it's missing from your list! I would choose this over the Boss/Line6 because it's true bypass, plus the Line6 apparently doesn't play well on a daisy chain.
14. That's definitely one of the best solutions. Although to avoid phase canellation it's a good idea to filter the lows out of the dirty rig. I really like the se clips of the Orange Tiny Terror: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=560354
15. By the way here's a good demo of what it sounds like with a P-Bass:
16. No idea who Kurt Ballou or Converge are (you should post some clips) but this is pretty ridiculous yet defined! $120 delivered (plus you won't get hit by customs charges )
17. Not impossible, just expensive - Diamond Memory Lane and Malekko 919 are analog tap tempo delays!
18. Black Sabbath or Wolfmother Wolfmother split up and reformed with a new bass player recently, I was gutted it wasn't me! Still, just as well, Sydney is a bit of a trek for regular rehearsals.
19. I've bough quite a few things online from the US, here are my tips: - Ask the seller if they would mind marking down the price to $25 to avoid customs charges. I know a couple of retailers that do this by default, so I never pay taxes on my pedals! - If it gets stuck at customs, they will send you a letter with a customs reference number, but it takes an extra week or so to arrive. Most USPS mail gets sent via Parcelforce and you can use the USPS tracking number on the Parcelforce website. If it shows on there that the item is being held, you can phone up your local Parceforce depot and pay the charge and arrange a free redelivery. They don't like doing this without the reference number but they CAN do it with just the USPS/Parcelforce tracking number if they can be bothered to look it up on the computer. Also, one time I was told I could not pay over the phone or get a re-delivery, I had to go into the depot and pay there and pick it up. When I got there they said I was given the wrong information and that I could have paid with my card over the phone and had it re-delivered for free! So if they say that then it's most likely because they couldn't be bothered so phone again to see if you can speak to someone else.
20. I lemon oiled my board for the first time recently, just loosened the strings... a bit of oil inevitably got on the strings so I gave them a good wipe down afterwards, which gave the added bonus of making them cleaner and more slippery! When changing strings, look carefully at how they are done beforehand (assuming they are done well at the moment!). You want to get the string on the correct side of the peg so that it doesn't come off at an angle from the nut slot, and try to wind them downwards so that the string sits lower and gives more of an angle as the string goes over the nut.
21. What about the pickups? I hear the Gibsons sound way better and totally different to the Epis, I wonder what the Tokai ones are like?
