1.
It might be worth bering in mind than when Leo designed these things, It doubtful he was expecting them to survive for 20, 30+ years...
Do you mean Leo Fender or Leo Quan (inventor of the Badass bridge)?
2. Also, have a scan through http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=26654, you might find someone local in Kent!
3. Well I've been wanting to check the sub-lime out so I'll take it!
4. Sure, you can have 2 keys for £700 and I'll throw in a free bass.
5. +1 on the SFT. I have a VT Bass, and the SFT trumps it for old school motown / funk tones using a P-Bass and flats (the VT wins for grind with roundwounds though). I've owned an EBS Valvedrive and DHA VT1 before also, they would all do a fine job (EBS sounds more old skool between the 2).
6. There's also a Subdecay Baby Quasar and a teeny tiny Malekko Phaser coming out in case you missed em!
7. Those Westfield purple P-Basses look cool... It's a shame that that Fender don't offer the same colours all these cheap makes do!
8. Well the new one looks like it's got a boost button for when you want to drive a power amp - so maybe they made the volume control more useable after all.
9. There's a sticky on this: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=26654 For London, I've heard Charlie Chandler's or The Gallery recommended for setups, they could probably do neck repairs also.
10. Next time, check out parcel2go, senditnow, or interparcel - cheap online services that use proper couriers like DHL, but at much lower prices! Sod Parcelfarce or Royal Fail...
11. Also, I find the big Dunlop triangles easier to use on bass rather than those little teardrop ones you useually see everywhere.
12. No, but they look interesting and I'd like to try a set. They even go up to .200, that's the biggest I've heard of for a bass string! You could always ask them direct: http://circlekstrings.com/store/contact.html
13. This is the kind of pedal that can fetch pretty high prices, but I've seen a fair few go for less than £45 before too so you didn't do too bad!
14. This brightened up my day: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=611919 I believe that random acts of kindness like this can spread like a happy infection and make the world a better place. If only bass players were put in charge of running the world, everything would be alright!
15. Well, you're welcome to come round and give it a try next time you're down in London! Good luck with the flat hunting...
16. To the top! I've managed to get my hands on a box now so I can offer postage (which should be about £20).
17. The White Falcon does it for me (Jack Lawrence plays one):
18.
Ill probably keep the P and just get a 5 string Lakland and be done. For now!
Or you could buy my Fender P5!
19. I have a Black Sabbath bass tab book from Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Black-Sabbath-Riff...1374&sr=8-1 Also, I don't think there's a bass tab book out but check out Wolfmother's first album - great fun to play along to and easy to learn. I've been meaning to learn some Jamerson stuff myself, I have the James Brown rhythm section book which I highly recommend: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Funkmasters-Rhythm...1506&sr=8-2
20. Looks like this plugin mixes in a pitch-shifted voice rather than modulate the pitch like a chorus pedal does. The POG2 may be overkill but might do the trick:
21. Unless you're trying to sound like a guitar, you would need a proper bass cab in order to reproduce the low end, but you could use a lot of guitar valve amps as long as the pre-amps in them don't roll off the low end. The trouble is, most budget guitar valve amps are pretty low powered, e.g. the Orange Tiny Terror or Epiphone Valve Junior are typically <30W. These would be great for recording or using as a distorted rig alongside a regular bass rig but wouldn't really be loud enough alone for gig volumes. Here's some clips in this thread of an Orange Tiny Terror with a P-Bass: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=560354
22. I know LaBellas are prone to breaking with the tight break angle and that TIs and Chromes are ok for stringing through the body... not sure about any others!
23.
Has anyone tried Status Hotwire flats? I'm looking for a set for a 5 string & they're much cheaper than the likes of Thomastic/La Bella etc. - was wondering if they were any good? Cheers, B.
Not quite, but I have Status half-rounds on my fretless. They feel as smooth as flats but have more zing to em, they are hands down the best strings I have ever tried for fretless, with TI Jazz Flats and GHS Brite Flats as runners up!
24. I've heard of him, he's certainly famous amongst fans of doom/sludge/drone music. There was a discussion on talkbass where someone wanted to tune down to C to match the guitarists in his metal band. Most people just replied "duh, get a 5 string or string your bass BEAD", but since a lot off riffs require playing up on the neck while bouncing off the open strong pedal notes, I suggested he go 5-string or BEAD and use a capo at the 1st fret if necessary. I want to get one myself but I had a look online and found 50 types of capo and I'm not sure which ones would fit on a chunky bass neck!
25. Yup - you could get 2 fairly decent basses for that money. For example, the Squier Classic Vibe series, or this: http://www.rattleanddrum.com/product/3110/...-pearl-5-string
