Does this count? https://www.youtube....h?v=QMWUYMWlEyo
I somehow just knew what this would be before even clicking on it!

Someone who spends more time on forums or watching Youtube demos of gear than they do practising their instrument?

Just 'invented' a 'new' B-string technique!
dannybuoy replied to dannybuoy's topic in Theory and Technique
I'd love to but they are expensive and I can just flap my hand about left to right for free! -
I thought everyone just used it to host stuff for linking to from elsewhere online... kinda like photobucket. Didn't really think there was much else to it.
That's their problem, everyone has been using it this way and not caring or looking to see what else they offer - and since they allow embedding clips into forum posts and such, they probably miss out on a lot of advertising revenue from people not even visiting the site. Easy to use Dropbox or Box etc for hosting clips anyway, but if they do go down there will be a lot of forum threads hosting clips with missing content!

Because you need them obviously!

Now when I say invented, I mean I just thought this up after playing for years and thought the results were so good I would share. There are probably countless other people already doing it and I'm just late to the party. It woudn't be the first time - I came up with a guitar riff when I was 15 only to learn a few years later that Hendrix ripped me off when a bought a new CD of unreleased material! People always complain about the B string sounding so different to the other strings, that when you skip to the B it's always obvious since the tonality changes to much. I just came up with a simple solution, move your plucking hand further to the bridge when playing the B string. I can now play a run going from the E to the B sliding my plucking hand left and right as I do so and they now sound like the same string! The same technique can be used in the other direction if your D & G strings are too twangy and you want to fatten them up. My right hand used to stay anchored in the same position, now it's floating about all over the shop like it's been possessed, but my tone has improved as a result! Anyone else already do this?

Price drop! FS: new FGN (Fujigen) Neo Classic Jazz5 £590 shipped
Thanks for reminding me. The bass features a proprietary Fujigen patented fret system, called cirecular fret system (CFS) It is not different in use than the normal fret system, but according to FGN it provides certain advantages
Makes total sense for accurate intonation when you think about it (not convinced about the rest though), never seen or heard of such a system before, consider me schooled! -
Does anybody else think that sounds badass?
I'm hearing pinched synthy gated fuzz there. B:Assmaster or Diabolik will give you that in spades.
That's proper funny
I thought he was being serious! Cheap knackered beer-soaked amp = Authentic punk tone
-
Doesn't sound like a stuck wah to me, more like a very nasal fuzz EQ'd or run through a cab without a tweeter (or a cab sim or guitar amp). My Diabolik (and the BB-1X I mentioned) can get somewhat close. Plus I think Timmy C would struggle to get a stuck wah sound with a spring loaded 105Q unless he resorted to intricately balancing some counterweights on the pedal!
-
I assume you're going the COG route now after listing all of the gubbins you were using to get that sound!

Lots of pedals for sale EBS, Zoom MS50G, Ibanez, One Control etc

VT Bass or Two Notes Le Bass for that SVT vibe. Sounds like a fuzz kicking in at 1:40ish too! I sold my Boss BB-1X as it was crap as a light overdrive, but it actually excelled as a heavy distortion and sounded not a million miles away from that tone.

6/10 but guessed everything except the last one!

More TS-like bass pedals for you to consider, more on the boutique side: Xotic BB, Cusack Screamer, Rodenberg 808B Plus the Ibanez Bass Tube Screamer of course! Darkglass/Pike pedals sound like they'd fit the bill too. I know what you mean about tubescreamers sounding bloated with too much low end, these pedals somehow avoid this, plus the grunt/fat switches can filter out even more lows from the dirt channel if you should wish. They also sound like they have a built in speaker sim to remove any fizziness.
B3K vote from me. That blend control is ace.
For a punky Precision tone though, I have to say the Vulcan (with the colour set to the old school position) beats the B3K. It's as if the midrange was tuned to pair with an angry P and sounds a bit like a Darkglass Vintage but with hairier balls.

It's funny, some items are way cheaper than over here and some are way more expensive. Same goes for Thomann. I've also ordered items MADE IN THE UK from bikeparts.de for 60% of the typical UK price!
-
The VT is perfect for this. Bass Soul Food will do as well, but not as good a job as what you already have I reckon! Time for roundwound strings, bring 2 basses if you must have flats for other tunes!
-
Really after something in the P bass line or possibly a P/J rather than an MM style bass. WHat about ESP basses e.g. a B55?
ESP basses are rarely mentioned or recommended around these parts. They are probably perfectly good basses on a par with the others suggested, but perhaps they're just unfashionable due to their image as mainly producing pointy guitars for metal players, so resale value won't be as good as the other options.
For funk, the first type of effect I'd try is an envelope filter.
This man speaketh the truth.

Squire Vintage Modified Precision V, without a doubt! Very well reviewed all around. http://www.andertons.co.uk/electric-basses/pid30085/cid682/squier-vintage-modified-precision-bass-v-in-candy-apple-red.asp Also the Yamaha BB415 or 425 can be picked up very cheaply too, the added bridge pickup gives you more options. I really rate these, but it's the only one out of these 3 that I've owned: http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Yamaha-BB425-5-String-Bass-Guitar-Black/D9R Or if you want ultra budget around the £100 mark, Harley Benton from Thomann. Still great basses for the money by all accounts. http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_hot_rod_5_bass.htm

From memory I think you can configure it to either mute or pass through unaffected when in tuner mode. It will need to pass through or it will mute your amp!

Just been playing with the Ampeg sims in the new GarageBand update, I think I prefer them to the ones I've paid good money for in other apps! The only thing that bugged me was the lack of latency control in GarageBand until I realised I could use AudioBus to drive it and lock it to 128 samples, which is pretty much instantaneous!
