Doesn't sound like a stuck wah to me, more like a very nasal fuzz EQ'd or run through a cab without a tweeter (or a cab sim or guitar amp). My Diabolik (and the BB-1X I mentioned) can get somewhat close. Plus I think Timmy C would struggle to get a stuck wah sound with a spring loaded 105Q unless he resorted to intricately balancing some counterweights on the pedal!

I assume you're going the COG route now after listing all of the gubbins you were using to get that sound!

VT Bass or Two Notes Le Bass for that SVT vibe. Sounds like a fuzz kicking in at 1:40ish too! I sold my Boss BB-1X as it was crap as a light overdrive, but it actually excelled as a heavy distortion and sounded not a million miles away from that tone.

More TS-like bass pedals for you to consider, more on the boutique side: Xotic BB, Cusack Screamer, Rodenberg 808B Plus the Ibanez Bass Tube Screamer of course! Darkglass/Pike pedals sound like they'd fit the bill too. I know what you mean about tubescreamers sounding bloated with too much low end, these pedals somehow avoid this, plus the grunt/fat switches can filter out even more lows from the dirt channel if you should wish. They also sound like they have a built in speaker sim to remove any fizziness.

It's funny, some items are way cheaper than over here and some are way more expensive. Same goes for Thomann. I've also ordered items MADE IN THE UK from bikeparts.de for 60% of the typical UK price!

The VT is perfect for this. Bass Soul Food will do as well, but not as good a job as what you already have I reckon! Time for roundwound strings, bring 2 basses if you must have flats for other tunes!

They are probably perfectly good basses on a par with the others suggested, but perhaps they're just unfashionable due to their image as mainly producing pointy guitars for metal players, so resale value won't be as good as the other options.

From memory I think you can configure it to either mute or pass through unaffected when in tuner mode. It will need to pass through or it will mute your amp!

Just been playing with the Ampeg sims in the new GarageBand update, I think I prefer them to the ones I've paid good money for in other apps! The only thing that bugged me was the lack of latency control in GarageBand until I realised I could use AudioBus to drive it and lock it to 128 samples, which is pretty much instantaneous!

I've also tried Alex's Ginger (although before he messed with the trimpots to lower the gain) and for me, the Blueberry is my always-on. It is very dark compared to most drives though, so if you want something with a bit more brightness on tap it might not be for you, but it has the best breakup character I've ever found in a pedal. I even use mine at low gain as my amp sim for headphone practice, it's the best thing I've found for that (and I've been through a few amp modellers and preamps with speaker sims).

?! And £229 for the guitar version.

If you're worried about relying on the amp EQ, a simple EQ pedal would do the trick (just knock down all the sliders 100Hz and below), and there's a few cheap examples going in the classifieds if you don't have one already!

You shouldn't do any damage to the guitar amp. The internals aren't an issue, the only potential problem is feeding the speaker too much low frequency content, but most guitar amps filter the deep lows anyway, plus you're rolling off the bass EQ. Just listen to the guitar rig in isolation and you should be able to test how bassy it sounds! If you want a more portable version of this setup you can try a Tech21 California (or the dirt cheap Joyo clone) which is a Mesa simulator, and blend your clean bass with that via the LS-2 and send the mixture to your bass rig.

Out of interest, why is the lack of battery power a deal breaker, especially if the pedal comes with a power supply? If you really need to be free of power cables, there are rechargeable power supplies like the Pedaltrain Volto (although that seems overkill for just one pedal). If you're just bass and drums, you may find you want more and more effects such as octavers until you end up needing a board to put them on! Look up the various threads discussing Royal Blood for some ideas on pitch shifting and creating fake guitar sounds too.

More as in what? The PJB Bighead has more than a rudimentary EQ as it has an aux in, USB audio interface and is rechargeable. Or are you talking more about tone shaping and overdrive? The Two Notes Le Bass sounds excellent with 2 switchable channels plus the ability to run them in parallel or series, plus a cab sim... But no aux in or batteries, so depends what you're after!

That 3-band alnico sounded awful next to the other two. Maybe to do with how the EQ was set (how was it set)? Still, I would've thought the preamp on the regular non-classics should be the same. Aren't the 3-bands cut/boost with centre detents, and the 2-bands boost only on the bass and boost/cut on the highs with no detent?
