Forgive my ignorance but is it the case that some light weight class d bass amps/heads use common power amp modules, and I suppose, their corresponding power supplies? e.g. the B&O modules mentioned. So debate about the relative virtues of amps x,y, and z are in fact only really comparing the preamp stage, which itself is only really about the overdrive/compression, 'baked-in' eq contouring, and eq control elements?

Could the cost of occasional damage be considered as factored into the amount charged for performing? Especially as intoxication is a known hazard, both off and on stage... :-) So I suppose I'm saying you did handle the situation correctly IMHO

This is the setup I use but now with DR DDT strings (on the advice of Mark at Bass Direct) with a 34" scale and works fine for me so maybe something like that might be worth trying as it's just the cost of a 4 string set and a setup. Plus no mods to the guitar.
