  1. Found these in a tidy up. Three complete as new, plus a few bits of the fourth (was used for repair). No screws or ferrules, but could be handy if you need spare parts etc. These are the chrome finish, not nickel. Happy to post at cost (£5?)
  2. For sale - lightly used Protec Contego case/bag. Light weight, with semi-rigid sides and panels, half way between a hard case and gig bag. Very good condition, all straps and buckles are there. One or two slight scratches on rubbery bits. Has three good sized compartments. A good case for longer walks, I found the shoulder plus chest straps made it very comfortable, even with a fairly heavy bass inside. Collection from Bath/Bristol area only...I’m close to M4 J18.
  3. Yes, would've done it. Jon's older Di box design (I think the same thing in a different box) had a line input jack, and it worked with the SWR fine, until I got a bit heavy handed one night - the clipped signal took out the power for the PA and lights for about ten seconds....oops...
  4. Jon built an A/B DI with mute and tuner output, and level control for each input for me several years ago. It was great (if slightly rustic) The only time I’ve had an issue with any of the Orchid DI boxes is running a line out put from an SWR amp - just not enough headroom on the DI input. But that really was user error, it was a hot line level signal.
  5. Slick bag from Sweden look very good to me. Not seen one in the flesh, but would be at the top of my list (Levy’s are my favourite, but they are just stupid expensive in the UK).
  6. My thinking is the original Warwick wax finish and a thin matt nitro aren’t very different in look or feel. In my experience, a thin matt nitro is actually less hard wearing (always goes shiny with use) and much more difficult to maintain. Maybe just cut back the existing finish and replace with a fresh Warwick wax layer? The Warwick stuff is really good, as it doesn’t quickly build into a shine like most furniture waxes - use a little, often, and it does what it says on the tin.
  7. I tried with bass guitar and double bass. Its a great little thing but I couldn't use it for anything but the smallest gigs with the most attentive of audiences. May work better if you can DI into a house PA etc but I couldn't make it work..especially if it was a venue I didn't know well in advance. My best experience was with an acoustic bass guitar - it was easy to tuck behind the chair so it was invisible, and it actually felt like the bass was making a good acoustic sound (which it can't do!).
  8. Looks very good - proper two channel preamps are still pretty rare.
  9. There is a TC pedal that claims to help acoustic guitars, but I've not heard it - something to do with body resonance.
  10. Good preamp/DI pedal will work - Sansamp/Fishman/ LR Baggs etc. Look at the amp as a powered monitor (and have it a few feet away) and let the PA do the room. It won’t ever be easy, but will work.
  11. Just a thought. I’d never buy a Geezer amp, but having gigged for 30 odd years, I completely understand why his tech would want transformer isolated outputs..it’s the only way to really avoid noise problems when linking gear (and options are always good). I use Sansamps etc most of the time, but always carry a good passive transformer DI for those venues where the noises are persistent. So, I’d happily pay a few quid more on any amp if it had a good transformer DI and not an “electrically balanced” one.
  12. Would be interested in helping out, but too far away to be sensible (Bristol). May be a good idea to list some of the designs you would be interested in? For example, I’ve got clean examples of SWR Goliath II and a Bag End S-15.
  13. Yep - what Pete said. Excellent cabs, but they need the correct spec units to sound as intended. I recall they were also pretty weighty for their size. The CXL 110 (next series) was a wonderful little thing.
  14. Sounds like the status checks are slowing down or struggling. Email them?
  15. 10 staff may be, but an owner who never stops, sleeps or gets put off by anything, as long as there is coffee 😜. (Based on Mark Gooday’s FB activity)
  16. Keep a log - it may help in the even of escalation, and also will probably show that the pattern of complaint relates more to your neighbours disposition than your activities. But also, do not hesitate when their noise becomes intrusive to your family and lifestyle. Think about where the amp is (off the floor is a great start) and also where any voids like chimneys can be adding a resonance to your sound. best of luck
  17. Yes, I'm planning to be there again - please send me the necessary, and I'll get it sorted, despite the haze of manflu...
  18. The secret for me is not trying to get my “home sound” in a gig situation - you need something with low-mid energy and more edge than you like. Mostly I’m boosting a bit 40- 200HZ cutting a bit 300-500HZ and boosting 5kHz. But never a lot of cut or boost, and retuned to whatever the stage needs.
  19. Yes, it works well - just adjust to suit the room (usually the low end). I was trying to get the two amps close and it’s pretty easy, except for the big natural low end on the older amp. That is the inherent difference (big transformers). I’d love to try the Ashdown MK red amp one day 😜
  20. Sorry if something offended, but I have played there for over 30 years in many different bands. Always fun..but at least twice in recent years the PA has either partly failed or just been too weak to even cover vocals well (mad night during Harbourside Festival).
  21. Yes, I use mine with Sansamps all the time, makes it warmer and rounder. Very useable, compact and light. But the old TE AH150 just doesn’t need any such help. It sounds huge...and just sort of “right” 😳
  22. Their PA is barely up to it at the best of times, and Saturday can be very “lively” 😳.
  23. No...it’s a great little amp, but think of it as a 400w power amp with a clean graphic eq. Next to an older TE head it sounds clean and lean, not warm and comfy. Can’t compare to the later TE (Series VI and beyond) as I never used them, and don’t have any around.
  24. Might be worth using the black plastic wrapped strings for a while? No one but the string company really knows what alloy mixes are in metal strings, regardless of how they are described.
