1. Is this the conversion you mean? http://ozbassforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=12037
2.
Other plans: I had thought of having the entire face planed off and a new one applied but that might not be worth the money. I'm more inclined to fill all the holes with dowel then sand the whole thing level to remove the old finish. Stain the face with a dark coloured wood dye and then apply coats of finish over that. I quite fancy Tru-Oil for that.
Veneering the front face might be a simple and cheap alternative. People tend to veneer with fancy wood, but if you were to use something unassuming and similar to the body wood (whatever that is), it should blend in pretty well, and won't increase the thickness by more than about 0.6 mm.
3.
Many thanks for this. They wont fit the MIC headstock. They're chunky aren't they?
Aye. Voice of experience here ;-)
4.
You don't need Schallers. Wilkinsons look the part, are good quality and are cheaper.
Watch out for the size, though: the base plates are quite large, and might not fit the MIC headstock: http://i.imgur.com/MpPVOH0.png
5.
The .01 inline capacitor acts as a high-pass filter […] I also change out the .047 tone cap for a .033 to retain more mids when I turn down the tone
It's probably obvious to people who only or frequently use capacitors in guitar wiring, but it would be helpful to specify the units of those capacitances! I assume µF as 0.01µF should give a cutoff frequency of around 800Hz for a 4H pickup, which sounds about the right order of magnitude. Is that correct?
6.
I have to disagree, surely a tuner put's a string under tension and if it doesn't have the resistance to maintain the tension then it will begin to unwind.
It's been a while since I studied mechanics, but I don't think that's correct. Worm gears are relatively inefficient due to the sliding interface between the wheel and the screw, and it's the friction between the (large) contact surfaces in a worm gear that prevents it from running in reverse. It's not really a question of resisting the tension: the force due to string tension is either large enough to overcome stiction, in which case you'd never be able to tune the thing up, or it works.
7. I bought a bass off Alan. It was well packaged for delivery (so well packaged that it took me about ten minutes to unwrap) and exactly as described. He was very responsive. Easier than online shopping!
8. Somebody Else's Guy by Jocelyn Brown. Slap bass, female voice, and smooth as you like.
9. I went to school with - and played in a band with - the older brother of Charlie Simpson of Busted. I remember practising at their house on a few occasions; Charlie was a wee nipper at the time. Obviously it was my bass playing that inspired him.
10. I bought the other Hercules mini stand. Good comms, and it arrived quickly and well packaged. I'm very satisfied with everything.
11. I bought a pair of EMG Jazz Bass pickups off ozzy138 just before Christmas. We met up at the station to exchange. Great communication, and I'm very satisfied. They're in the bass now, and sounding good :-)
12. I bought an Aria 5-string bass off Fluffo. We exchanged locally, as we both live in SE London. He was pleasant and helpful to deal with, despite my confusion over road names, and it was very easy and straightforward. I'm happy with my bargain!
13. Bought a strap off Ryan. It arrived two days later, exactly as promised. Couldn't ask for more!
14. Closest I've had was being struck in the eye by a drumstick flying out of the hand of a loose-gripped drummer. Luckily, there was no lasting damage.
15. I've played this. It's definitely a bargain: it looks practically brand new. Have a bump.
16. MUSICAL INSTRUMENT: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320831818646 (It's a Rockinbetter.)
17.
Looks like a Chinese eBay special.
That's what I thought, too. How does it play? The nut looks pretty dodgy in the photo.
18.
So that's five knobs? I only see four.
Bottom right (or bottom left if you're playing it) knob looks stacked.
19. I have a P-bass's-worth of black screws going spare. PM me your address and I'll post them.
20. That ad's disappeared, because they've relisted it at £70! http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/very-cool-hohner-fretless-bass-for-sale-and-marshall-practice-amp-thrown-in/94595448 Absolute bargain.
21. I think I'll pass. It's a bargain, but needs a fair amount of effort! Relinquishing dibs …
22. I might be interested in the first one, once I've seen some pictures! Can I reserve first dibs, please?
