It's odd.... I often wonder how many beat up basses are really beat up after all. I've been playing a 69 Jazz with regularity since about 1979. Use it all the time. It gets knocked, it falls over, it get's left in the sun, under hot lights, rarley gets put away, I wear a belt, I wear the cuff-zip of a leather jacket over the top contour. All this has been going on for thirty odd years.... ....and apart from the odd minor ding, there isn't a worn out bit on the thing. Go figure, chaps.
....financial pressures meant I had to sell the bass and amp.
Arrgh! The horror.... Hope you get bassed up again real soon, Jim. Welcome! -
I read somewhere you can't use them with Rickenbackers as something in the foam reacts to the laquer...........Is this true?
I found that problem with the black rubber tubing on most guitar stands reacting really badly with nitrocelulose finishes - but only on maple necks for some reason. I've got a couple of necks where the nitro finish has turned to goo and dripped right off the wood - but the body finish seems strangely unimpaired in comparison. Anybody know the science of this problem...?
I think its just that bloody Sting Sig on the 12th that put folk off these.
Correct. It certainly put me off. Can't think why they never just did a stock 54 repro. I got the 51 but it's a bit boxy for my liking. Then they did the paisley ones and contoured them..., oddly the original paisley ones being late 60's telecaster basses.... with the slab body!!! Damn that Sting sig.
did roland make a bass version of their guitar synth pickup....?
Not at that time.... ....but there was a bass synth component available for the then de-rigeur Roland Rack. Being rather novel - prior to it's rather swift obsolescence - it didn't have a huge colour palette nor the greatest range of applications in my unimaginative hands. I used it meself on some "Silent Types" tracks recorded at the erstewhile Mekon studio, Brixton. I always thought the bass part in NIghtshift was created utilising this dinasaur of the digital age. Ron played the line on fully fretted Steinberger bass though some chorusy/flangy type effects when they played at The Cav(endish) Club in Blackburn, Lancs in 1986

Why are there so many copies of Fender basses?
mckendrick replied to The Dark Lord's topic in Bass Guitars
Original, regurgitation, replica, copy, rip-off, whatever.... until the human shape changes drastically no-one is going to come up with a more ergonomic body shape for an electric bass guitar than Fender did. And if it ain't broke.... -
The condition is so good, I think you're going to need more pictures of the internals (pots, wiring etc) to authenticate that 1966 date. It's unfortunate the date on the neck is obscured by the red felt tip marking, has anyone seen this type of marking before? Doesn't seem to be in anyones interest to write over the date in this way?
I've got a '66 CAR Jazz Bass... which has that very same red marker zig-zag over the date stamp. It hasn't obscured the stamp, which is clear as day right through the marker ink. Gorgeous P Bass. Dosn't look like the truss rod has ever been touched. I don't think that thing needs the 'internals' checking to authenticate the date. The details are spot on. *drools* . -
Not sure I understand your retort, gareth. My question: "has it gone, yet?" would surely warrant a 'yes' or a 'no' reply given it's a thread about you having a Squire Jazz for sale. Forgive me if yours is a trick retort that I'm misunderstanding or I'm just too thick to 'get'. Or maybe you found my enquiry offensive in some way? Maybe you just don't like the smell of my £750. So hard to tell. Thanks, anyway. .
