Yes, I do have one which lives in my van as a spare. Never actually needed it as a back-up, but I do choose to gig it occasionally, and it is fun, small, and light. I don't really get on with jazz basses, so mine's currently wired in series. If your emergency scenario includes a broken power supply, then the Mooer will be no good. I've had this at a wedding where my pedal board completely died - it was in the middle of a song, and in the relative darkness on-stage, etc, so it was very hard to quickly diagnose exactly where or what the problem was. I carry a Behringer DI400P which small, light, and the minimum equipment needed to get a signal from my bass to a PA in an "actual emergency" -- it's passive so I don't worry about how to power it. If you're talking about a "non-emergency emergency" where EQ or some distortion etc would be nice to have, then that's something else!

Sorry if this sounds obvious, but can you practise the faster tunes at a slower tempo? The note choice is generally the same regardless of tempo.

I have a similar setup also based around a Zoom unit. The Zoom B1Xon sends an unbalanced signal, which can pick up noise. A DI box converts the unbalanced signal to a balanced signal, which can cancel out any noise. This explains it better: http://www.aviom.com/blog/balanced-vs-unbalanced/ - "An unbalanced cable acts like an antenna and picks up noise." A DI box will have two outputs: balanced XLR and unbalanced jack. I send the XLR to the desk, and the jack to my monitor. I use an MXR M81 which has DI and also some EQ. I use it in "pre" EQ mode, which means the XLR signal is unaffected by the EQ i.e. the desk gets the signal exactly as it came from the Zoom. Any EQ adjustments only affects the jack output i.e. my monitor. A possibly cheaper way is to use separate DI box and EQ pedal. I used to do it this way with a Behringer DI box and an Artec EQ pedal. The MXR just happens to do it in one unit. This is all assuming you want just the bass in your monitor. If you want other instruments then you'll have definitely have to go via the desk, and the solution will be different.

@julietgreen You mentioned "a few fast jazz numbers". Do you mean you are fine at slow or medium tempos, but struggle when things get too fast? Which particular numbers or changes are you looking at? Perhaps people here can give some ideas of how to find a way through, if that would help.

Is it the same (or very similar) to the Alto TS312, which is at the lower end of the market? I have not tried an Alto product myself, but my concerns would be (for any purchase really): 1. How would it cope when things get loud. 2. What is the build quality - will it still be functioning after a couple of years of being gigged? The makes which come up most on the "Interesting FRFR story" thread are RCF and QSC.

It seems that the Rafferty is a series 2M fdeck. There is a table of differences here: https://sites.google.com/site/hpftechllc/home/hpf-pre. The main one is that series 2 has one 12 dB/octave filter, whereas series 3 has two ("The first filter has a fixed corner frequency of 35 Hz, and 12 dB/octave slope. The second filter is adjustable from 35 to 140 Hz, and also has a 12 dB/oct slope").

Whoever arranges (i.e. pays) for the courier is also responsible for sorting out anything which goes wrong. The seller might not want to take on the responsibility of that potential hassle.

I suppose I wasn't overly cheery, but I don't think I was negative. I recall they replied saying they would address the issues. Which heads and cabs are you looking at? I.e. the make & model. Because things vary a lot between brands. For example, a brand new Harley Benton BB115T and five-year-old Barefaced Compact are both "1x15 cabs", but the Barefaced would completely destroy the other (and weigh half as much). Similarly, what was the make & model of your previous combo, so we know where you're coming from? The more information we have, the specific and better the advice can become. (The advice has been good so far btw!) Budget, musical style, and type of venue are also useful to know. Can the bass be put through the PA; and if not currently, can the PA be upgraded? Because then things might sound better to the audience, and you could use a smaller amp on stage. Some bands using good PAs might not even have a bass amp at all.

This happened to me once, and can confirm it's not ideal but yes I managed to finish the gig!
