  1. Hey! I'm a guitarist and have been asked to dep as a bassist for a few gigs. Thought it would be a good time to add a bass to the collection! I'm looking for something versatile, the band I will be playing for play rock and punk - but my usual preferred styles are soul, funk etc. I have been looking at the Harley Benton PJ basses - people seem to be saying they are great bang for the buck and the PJ configuration seems like it will give me the versatility I need. There seem to be 2 levels, the Deluxe range (P4) and the Vintage range (PJ-74), with a £50 difference. The differences seem to be the pickups and electronics. Does anybody have any experience playing both of these? With all of my guitars I have upgraded parts over time, these seem a good platform to do the same. My question is, is it worth paying the additional £50 for the higher spec - or am I better off using the £50 to throw toward some upgrades (most likely some mid priced pickups, tuners). Also, are there any other differences outside of the electrical components? Thanks! Jim
  2. Hi guys I'm looking for a little help. I have acquired a bass and she has been mistreated. The previous owner has lovingly repainted her with what looks like Blue fence paint, without even removing the scratch plate or control plate. So my plan is to rub her down and respray properly and generally bring her back to life. Now, the interesting part. It is a MIM Jazz neck from 06/07 (discovered using the serial number) - but the body has holes for an 'ash tray' bridge cover. Looking at images online - i cant seem to find any MIM Jazzers that come with the bridge cover, so this makes me question whether somebody has cobbled it together from parts, removed the original bridge cover or added one on at some point. It has Bass Lines pickups (which I believe were a sub brand of Seymour Duncan?), these could be original or aftermarket.. So my question is, does anybody know of a MIM Jazz that would have come with the bridge cover (or at least holes for one) from around 06/07? - or am I looking at a non fender body with a MIM neck bolted on? Thanks in advance, the bass hasn't landed yet, but I will follow up with some pics once she does.. Cheers J
  3. Thanks for all the responses guys! It looks like we are pitching at the right ball park at just above pub prices. And I have already stated the set times 🙂 - been stung there before!
  4. Hi all I know this is always the topic of much debate and I am probably throwing a grenade here! I've played lots of pub gigs over the years and have recently started playing in wedding / function band. I understand the fees vary drastically! We charge approx £1000 for a wedding or corporate gig and tend to take what we can get with pub gigs, if and when we chose to do them.. Usually getting around £250-300. My question is, Social / Members clubs.... I have never played any before, but have been asked for a quote. I don't want to shoot myself in the foot here. I assume that these would usually pay similar to a pub, rather than a private function? - Or would they fall somewhere in between? I would be interested to know the experiences of you guys on this! Cheers. Jim
