1.
I need this bass even more now I have it being played the bass sounds fantastic !! Awesome bass playing by the way
Thank you, sir! You are most kind...
 2.
Ahhhh finally, the bass in the flesh so to speak.... So, whats it being played through?
Straight into my Mac's mic input with a quarter inch to mini jack adapter. I was amazed myself!
 3.
News to me also. I think the other poster means that Pete stopped working hands on so to speak.
Yes - that's exactly what I did mean - he's retired, not passed on!
 4.
Im not sure that it ends a piece of history, as Wal basses are as good now as they were before, inherriting the same tradition, history, and same craftsmanship. Pete's legacy dare i say it (legacy) and that of Ian Waller himself, still live on through the more than capable hands of Paul Herman, who lets face it, has been in the Wal camp for a lot more years than many people realise..... There are many facets to the Wal manufacturing process, and every bass passes the Wal quality control process, so if Pete, Paul, or others sign it off, it still carries the prestige, from the Waller, Pete, Paul and more importantly, Wal camp.....
I agree - Paul's work is every bit as good as anything that came out of the Wal workshops in the past, and he was there in person for many years, as you rightly say. You can still order a bass with the same or very similar specs as mine, but this one does mark the end of an era in Wal production with Pete's passing, which is why I suggested it might be considered 'special'. Whether it is or not is entirely the up to you, of course - as the saying goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
 5. I had an MC924 walnut fretless in 1980, and it was heavy, but the build quality and finish was phenomenal. At the time they were being endorsed by Sting, Coiln Moulding of XTC and a few others. I suppose a grand for this example might seem a little expensive, but what would you pay for a bass of similar quality today? And it is very pretty...
 6. Thanks for pointing that out - I rang them, and was told they changed their policy on enhanced compensation of musical instruments almost 2 years ago, but I was still sold it when I sent the bass from Parcelforce's Aldershot depot 10 days ago. They've said they will reimburse the cost of the cover. So who are we left with that will provide proper insured shipping? UPS? Any others?
 7.
Although I find it a beautiful bass, it’s far to personal to make it feel like your own.
I can understand that point of view, as I wondered about that when I bought it myself. It's not only a thing of great beauty, it's also a wonderful working instrument, a tool of the trade, as well as a desirable collector's piece, and a little bit of Wal history. It's mine for now, but someone else will use it, get to know it, and enjoy it as their own as I have. And I will miss it!
 8. This may be met with howls of derision, as I know they have a poor reputation with some, but I've used Parcelforce within the UK often, to France and Germany several times, and they've always been excellent. They will insure up to whatever you need, the only requirement is that it has to be completely packaged over the case itself, and it's getting more expensive. I recently sent a Sei Jazz 5 insured for £1200 to Germany, and it cost £96 on a trackable 3 day service. It arrived in 2.
 9.
From the title I thought you might be selling one of Mick Karn's fretlesses..
Now that would have been something... I work for someone who knew him very well, but enquiring what was happening to his basses would be a difficult question to ask! I also have a Lakland/Prose I know you were interested in that's coming out of the workshop tomorrow after an extensive makeover - I'm afraid it's unlikely to be for sale, but I'll be posting some pics in a few days.
 10. Just to say I sold a Sei bass to Michael, and he was a pleasure to do business with - great communication, prompt payment and a great guy to deal with. Thoroughly recommended!
 11. For sale is my Aguilar GS412 - a portable but fearsomely powerful beast, rated at 4 ohms, and a stomach-churning 1200W. Excellent condition, only gigged a handful of times, complete with Roqsolid padded cover. I'm using smaller separates these days, and the missus is complaining it's taking up valuable shoe space (again)! The list price is £1299, and even the fantastically-priced Bass Merchant (RIP) only did them for £989. You can have this one for a paltry £650! Collection only, for obvious reasons... Photos now available at - http://s1141.photobu...wwregisterhead/ NOW SOLD. Happy Xmas everyone...
 12. THE BASS HAS NOW BEEN SOLD. THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR INTEREST. After much deliberation, I'm offering for sale an exceptionally rare and special Wal - it's the last one Wal co-founder Pete Stevens made before he hung up his tools, marking the end of an era for these fantastic instruments. It was made for fellow Basschatter Walbassist, and I've enjoyed it for the last two years, but owing to an upcoming investment opportunity, I feel I have to put it up for sale. It's a MkIII 5-string, with a few special features. The following is taken from Gareth's original listing, used with his permission: "This is a very special bass to me for a number of reasons, but probably the most important one for everyone else is that it is the last bass Pete Stephens made before he retired, so it truly does represent the end of the original Wal line. So, what else makes this bass so special? Well, it has a few unique features:

it’s the only Wal with spalted maple facings, supplied to Pete by me from a ski-ing holiday in Vermont
American walnut core (usually mahogany)
the custom neck pickup placement makes the bass a tad punchier and, to me, more ergonomic when playing fingerstyle (one other Wal has this pickup arrangement as well, which was also made for me)
bound veneer around the pickups
double pinstripe laminate (usually only one) between the core and facings
Pete’s personal “fish” logo on the back of the headstock
Weighing it at 10.5lb (4.75kilos), the bass balances well with no neck dive at all. It delivers all the classic Wal tones (and I’ve owned enough of them over the years to know!); big fat punchy bass but with plenty of control and presence. You can go from almost subharmonic to crystal-clear highs in the turn of a knob. If you like the Wal sound, then this bass is for you." The only changes made since I bought it is the addition of a clear circular perspex 'slap plate', which was made and installed by Paul Herman, the new owner of the Wal brand. It is held in place by the truss rod adjustment 'boat' at the base of the neck, and can easily be removed. The bass has been gigged very little, and is in excellent condition. Although every Wal is an individual instrument, this one is definitely extra special. It plays beautifully, currently setup with a low, fast action, fitted with D'Addario EXL170-5 nickel strings, and sounds phenomenal. It's also the best balancing and most comfortable bass I've ever owned, bar none. The price is a firm £3500, including Wal-branded hard case. Sorry, but I wouldn't be interested in any trades, or offers. Please PM me if you would like more info. Dave
 13. Another clip with a bit more B string as requested... :-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhILi9o8rMI
 14. Video clip of me noodling aimlessly on the above bass is now up on YouTube - recorded straight into my mac's audio input, flat eq. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lhvw1DmOBk
