1. Saw them a few years ago at the Mick Jagger Centre in Dartford, and unfortunately Norman was absent (out with Wilco) but it was still pretty good. 'Derek the Draw', on the other hand, was profane and just plain offensive with none of the charm that Ian Dury possessed - he just came across as a loudmouth pandering to the Oi rentamob who sadly were in that night. Disappointing. A couple of years later I was fortunate enough to be on the same bill as The Blockheads at Rewind in Henley, and it couldn't have been more different. Norman and Dylan Howe were cooking up a storm, and Phill Jupitus fronted the band admirably, with more than a hint of the essence of Ian Dury, despite being visibly stoned out of his head! Got to meet Norman backstage as well. A real gent.
2.
MB1. Wot No Trades? ...Type Bump!
Thank you for the bump MB1. Sadly, in this economy, cash is king!
3.
But seriously, have a look at this band's website ....... may give you some ideas http://www.jukeboxfunctionband.com/
Blimey. They were clearly paying attention during the 'Business Development' module of their ACM/BIMM/LIM course. As impressive as the website is, sadly I find the actual musical part of their product very limp and sterile. As the Jam lyric goes, 'the public wants what the public gets'.
4. Thanks gents... weekend bump... still available...
5. Combined sale price drop bump
6. I really like that. I showed it to my missus, and she f**king hated it, so that's just reinforced my liking. Extremely distinctive, hence very difficult to pass off as an old acquisition though. "Is that ANOTHER new bass?? No darling, I've had it for ages..." *Sigh*
7. [sharedmedia=core:attachments:131204] My Streamline 5 - now for sale in the classifieds, sadly
8. For sale is my Status Streamline 5, bought only a few weeks ago from another BC'er, in anticipation of an Antipodean tour I've got coming up next month. Sadly, despite it being an amazing looking, feeling, playing and sounding instrument, I can't get on with the design, so I'm resigned to taking my Stingray Down Under instead! Built in 2010, but in genuinely excellent condition (testament to how well Brian took care of it) it's as near new as you'll get - the only marks I can find is a hint of finger swirl (if you look under the right light) in the highly polished finish by the pickups. No chips, dings, or fret wear. Gigbag and fitted flight case included. The flight case has a few scratches, but that's what it's for, after all. A new one with the case and delivery would leave you with less than fifty quid change out of two grand, and you'd also have a 4 or 5 month wait for it to be built. I'm letting this one go for [s]£1500[/s] £1400 including UK shipping. Sorry, but I'm not looking for any trades. NOW SOLD. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR INTEREST.
9. I just bought Steve's Yamaha BB615 - a very pleasant and friendly transaction, buy/sell/trade with confidence. Thanks Steve!
10.
Played a lined fretless back in the '80s and was stunned by the tone and bags of 'mwah'. Would still like one. An ULF XL2A recently went for £3200 so the OP's price for this L2 is a steal! Have another bump!
Thanks Stacker! An XL2a went for £3200?? Maybe I've undervalued my L2 then! Quick, someone buy it before I change my mind!
11. Interest, but still here. Stake your claim while you can!
12. I'm so tempted... I used to have a BB1100s back in the day, and it was a great bass...
13.
Whilst I broadly agree with this it is probably because I am closer to your age. Things may well change in the future. As technology becomes cheaper and with traditional pub venues closing all over the place could we see a time where bands play from a room which has cameras installed and the sound is streamed live to pay per view type audiences sat at home watching it on their computers? Without that audience interraction it wouldn't be the sort of gig I'd find much fun to play personally but it would change the whole dynamic of bands going 'out there' to play live. Bedroom players forming bedroom bands and playing bedroom gigs to millions of bedroom fans. All a bit weird but it could happen one day.
Oh dear god, no. I think I and a million others would storm the seats of government before that happened.
14.
I've regularly got good gigs out of doing a bad gig, good bands have grown out of bad bands and I've met up with many good players. If you're out there gigging you're in with a chance of progressing. Sit at home and you go nowhere.
I was just sitting here thinking that the gig I did last night in a little bar to try and showcase the new band and get some better gigs was too bloody hot, too bloody loud, and worth only pennies - why the hell did I do it? But then I read the above - well said sir. A much-needed dose of positivity!
15. Good morning and welcome! I seem to be the first out of bed today, but as you're several hours behind the UK, you may have already headed for yours... I hope you can bring a bit of sunshine with you when you post - I've just been watching the weather forecast, and we've got snow on the way over here. Looking forward to your contributions.
16. I play with both covers bands and original bands and artists. I do it for the fun, for the money, and to be able to occasionally bask in the reflected glory of some of the incredibly talented people I've been fortunate enough to share a stage with. On the down side, my personal experience is that although many a cover band member can be guilty of posturing and preening in front of an audience, bands and artists playing original material are too often far worse offenders in this respect. I've done the rounds of the London originals gig circuit over an extended period, and despite the fact that many bands and solo artists are impressively well prepared with posters, flyers, CDs, websites, MySpace, Facebook and Twitter feeds, the general standard of songwriting and performance tends to be inversely proportional to the smugness of too many of the individuals involved. There are exceptions - one singer songwriter who went on to achieve national radio airplay and big-name support tours really impressed me when the band I was in played on the same bill as him at a small West London venue that used to be a public toilet. Some of you will know where I mean! I was so impressed I went up to him afterwards and asked for a copy of his EP, which I was quite prepared to pay for. "Cool" he said, and went off to get one without further comment, and on returning, looked around and said loudly and sarcastically "Where's my sale??". He hadn't even taken the time to take note of what his potential customer looked like. Despite his subsequent brush with fame, he has since vanished without trace. All this has served to make me acutely aware that what to the performer may be artistic expression, can often simply be public masturbation, regardless of who wrote the songs played. I'm not suggesting that any of us should stop performing, but maybe just give some thought to what we do and why, which I hope is what the OP intended when he started this thread...
17. Now that is fantastic! I trust you'll be topping it off with a tie-dye t-shirt and some crushed velvet loon pants??
18.
Bump for a wonderful instrument and (I reckon) an unequaled example of the industrial designer's art. And yes, a genuine rarity - especially as it still has its plug-in leg rest (a far more satisfying design than the folding thing on the later XL basses). Actually it's such a rarity that I wonder if its my old one. Did you buy it from a music shop in the Wandsworth/Clapham area Dave? If I had £1500 to drop on a bass currently in the Basschat classifieds it'd be this one. Phil
Hi Phil Thanks for the complimentary words. It didn't come from Wandsworth though - the previous owner was in Kent. Are you sure I can't persuade you to treat yourself??
19. Thanks for your comments, gents - this is a genuine rarity that I shall miss once it's gone...
20.
35" scale?
It is - it can be strung through the body or just on the bridge.
21.
This bass will hunt you for the rest of your life... I know
Oh, I know Nico, I know...
22. Before I start, let me just say that I KNOW I'm going to regret this, but... NOW SOLD. Thanks for all your interest.
23. Reluctantly offered for sale is my Steinberger L2. Very good overall condition for a 30 year old, minimal fret wear, some pitting to face of the pickups, light scratching to the body surface from use, but no cracks, gouges or chips. Complete with plug-in leg rest, original bag, original strap, string locking screws (can use standard or double ball ends) and allen keys (probably not original). Bag and strap are a little grubby, and although they have never been allowed to get damp during my ownership, have what appear to be some historic mould spots. The bass is not affected in any way. Straight neck with approx 1.5mm relief, plays beautifully, no bridge, saddle or claw issues. Pickups & circuitry work well, pots still nice and tight. Dave NOW SOLD, THANKS FOR ALL YOUR INTEREST!
