1. When I put a J-Retro into my DJ5, for me, it transformed the bass. I'd say definitely give it a chance, but if it really doesn't float your boat, like JapanAxe said, flog it and use the cash to get a passive loom made!
2. ...but getting slightly 'off topic'. Welcome Tim!
3.
I was about to say , just within striking distance of chandlers then " perhaps you can join me in my campaign to try and get them to stock more than just Rotosound swing 66's the last time i tried to get flats there i had to take a set that had been " traded" packaging was about 10-15 years old ... I get that they like " vintage" but damn .
I agree they have a rather shambolic feel to the place, but they do great repair and custom work, and they have a PLEK machine, so they're not exactly behind the times... gawd knows I'd much rather go in there than the likes of Andertons... :-)
4. Marcin bought my Apogee Duet - a very friendly, straightforward sale. Thanks!
5. Welcome Tim... perhaps I might see you in Charlie Chandler's sometime...
6. For sale are a pair of Celestion BN10-200X Green Label 200 watt Neodymium 10's, 8 ohm, bought new, used for one rehearsal and one gig in my 210 cab as an experiment in going lightweight, but not to my taste. About three hours total use, so virtually as new [s]£125.[/s] Now £100 including postage in the UK.
7. I had two of these back in the day - great basses. GLWTS.
8. Lovely looking bass. GLWTS.
9. Perhaps this is how international drug cartels communicate... "Search for 'Fender bass little man' on eBay - the photo will show the location for the drop". I know, I've probably been watching too many late night TV movies...
10. Excellent. It oozes youthful optimism and a musicality that belies your tender years! (I'm old.) Best of luck with the band.
11.
Another thing you may wish to consider is this.... I Googled the descriptor you have used in your thread header and Google does capture it, but it only appears on Page 3. In my experience, if people are using a search engine to find something quickly, they rarely get as far as page three before boredom sets in. Given that the correct product name for this bass is a Music Man Stingray 5 Neck Through and it is For Sale you may wish to consider getting all those in the header/tags. There's nothing wrong with leaving Thru-Neck in there as well as it covers all bases (or basses :-). It may make a difference, it may not. Why not give yourself every chance though?
Very useful info, thank you.
12.
The Marketplace is a funny old place mate. I would stick with it for a while unless you're desperate to get it gone. It's only been up for just over a month. Some people don't check in here unless they are looking for something in particular. I have to say, if it was a 4, it would have gone already. Being a 5 excludes a percentage right out of the gate. The longer it's here, the longer I can drool at the pictures :-)
Fair comment and good advice, sir. I shall persevere!
13.
It's very useful educationally. Shows students how key choice makes a massive impact on a composition.
Of course. But you forgot the smiley at the end. You are joking, aren't you?? :-)
14. If you like Stingrays, how about one of these?? http://basschat.co.uk/topic/278059-rare-usa-lakland-55-76-stingray-5/ http://basschat.co.uk/topic/278055-sei-ashbirdseye-maple-custom-5-string http://basschat.co.uk/topic/282718-musicman-stingray-5-neck-through-probably-the-only-one-in-the-uk
15.
Yup! Mine is wearing XL Nickel Wound 130 - 45 Super Long, and they fit fine. In terms of tone difference I have no idea. It had these strings, through the bridge when I got it and sounded great, so I replaced like for like on the basis of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.
I'd also recommend the D'Addario Nickels Super Longs, the exact model is EXL170-5SL (gauges 45/65/80/100/130). I have 3 Laklands 5's and they are consistently good on all of them - great clarity, consistent tone and tension, long lasting. They're also pretty readily available from a few UK eBay sellers for about £25 a set. Lakland's own brand Nickel Mediums are quite nice too, although not as bright as the D'Addarios, and much harder to get hold of (gauges 45/65/85/105/128).
16. I'm no expert, but even a cursory comparison of pictures of a genuine Rolex Submariner and the one the seller is offering show some substantial discrepancies... I'm not saying it's a fake, but the overall impression is not good. It poses the question - would you buy a used Wal from this man?
17. For sale is an Apogee Duet Firewire audio interface in excellent condition. Boxed, including cable loom, and both standard Firewire 400, and Firewire 400 to Firewire 800 cables. Note: NOT compatible with OSX El Capitan! Drivers and Utilities for any other OS available from Apogee website. NOW SOLD.
18. I wouldn't have said I was really a Prince fan, but there are 3 tracks of his that I think are just sublime: 1. Sign O' the Times... an impeccably sparse groove, and great lyrics. 2. The Most Beautiful Girl In The World... for the snare drum sound alone! 3. Black Sweat... another masterclass in minimalism, and this wonderfully wry video... https://www.youtube....t=RD-ILzhoCuJSs
19. ...and here's another one for comparison! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wal-5-String-Electric-Bass-Guitar-1991-/301931985555
20.
The Wal is back up on eBay!! This just feels dodgy
Here's the new listing... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wal-5-String-Electric-Bass-Guitar-1990-/152061851581 ...and the weird neck pickup alignment thing still going on. Surely that's not a misplaced nut, as someone suggested...
21.
My long lost Sei is hands down the best bas I've ever played. It just felt very special. This seems to me like a very unique instrument and a personal spec selection.
Yes, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't tick the boxes for someone else, of course. Why not come over and try it...
22. Back in the late 90's I used to dep with a band who had no backline, an electronic kit, and everything in-ear. Cutting edge at the time, but for me, it was a soulless and gutless experience, despite their big Turbo Sound rig front of house. I would imagine, even with improvements in audio technology since then, it would be the same for the audience. The ambience created by a live show would be utterly lost.
23. Actually, I think this might be a bit of a bargain. My missus went to a spa for a full professional setup, with deep body cleansing, body polish and carnauba wax, neck deep clean, full electronics check, truss-rod and action and intonation adjustment, and it cost a LOT more than £45...
24.
"I've been playing 19mm spacing 35" scale basses for too long, and my arthritic gorilla mitts just can't seem to go back" There you go :-)
I couldn't have put it better myself. Oh, hang on...
