1. To be fair, as 'reliced' basses I've seen go, it looks, err.... comparatively 'genuine' (?) ...except because of the format it can't be, but anyone who knew that wouldn't be fooled, so who exactly would you be trying to impress? Even if it was for your own personal satisfaction, it just seems strange to me that you'd be committing copyright fraud to do it. Why not stick 'Fake' on the headstock and be done with it? In fact, in as much it's a reliced fake, it's a fake twice over. And who even knows if it plays well or sounds any good? But perhaps that's not an important consideration here. This bass has no value to retain, as far as I can see.
2. What Molan said. I've done it a number of times, and although there are a few butterflies when you're sending the money with nothing to show for it, I've yet to come unstuck. There are also intermediary services like MyUS.com, who provide a US shipping address for sellers who won't ship overseas, and they then ship the item on to you, for a very modest fee. I did that with a thru-neck Stingray that was impossible to get otherwise, at least within a sensible time frame. You do buy unseen, and there are potential issues with warranty to consider. It's also got a good bit more expensive due to the exchange rate, but if you REALLY want it.... :-)
3.
It is a great bass, but just doesn't get used enough by me; deserves a good home!....Such a small community isn't it Dave, didn't you buy a Sei bass from me a few years back?!
Indeed I did! You've got a good memory... :-)
4. My old bass. Originally owned by Michael (Mickey) Feat of Family, etc., etc... A lovely thing! GLWTS.
5. ...and then there was the R*ck*nb*ck*r, but we're not allowed to talk about that... :-) Any others?
6.
Phil Lynott played an Ibanez Blazer for a while. I didn't know he played a Yamaha. Paul McCartney played a Yamaha live for a while.
He did play an Ibanez too, but it was a Roadstar, I had one myself in the early 80's... https://www.talkbass.com/threads/show-us-your-roadstar-basses.1149080/ http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-1979-Phil-Lynott-Ibanez-RS-900-Bass-Guitar-Thin-Lizzy-/261875439983?nma=true&si=JdX398jT%252B0J2Hda20Mdtlpd2E%252Bw%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
7.
The second one is bb2000 which is very different. Be interested to see what they go for, i have a bb800 from the same sort of time. Good spotting skills!
You're quite right, not the same model. Still purdy though... :-)
8. ...and a bit of obscure telly with one, although someone suggests in the post that it was one of Jimmy Bain's basses... https://www.talkbass.com/threads/rare-philip-lynott.590617/

10. OK, maybe not so rare, Here's another slightly different one.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-BB2000-Bass-Guitar-1980-Black-Rare/172254732057
11. Lovely, and pretty rare. I'm seriously tempted. Free shipping from Japan, but then I remember to add about 23% to the price for VAT and Import Duty... If I'm not mistaken, Phil Lynott used one of these for a while. 12. Do let us know if he replies. If he's had it for 20 years as he claims, you'd think he would know what it is, or isn't...
13.
Hi mate, where abouts are you based? Cheers
Just off the A3, less than 10 minutes from junction 10 of the M25. PM me if you want to have a chat.
14. My first proper bass rig consisted of an Orange head and a Laney 4x12, circa 1976. All I remember was the head was incredibly heavy. I hope you have road crew...
15.
Would love to but actually aiming to buy a house for my 30th instead! GLWTS
They would both be great investments, of course...
16.
Me, because I turn 30 in November!
In that case, I really think you should treat yourself to an early birthday present!
17. She won't actually have her 30th until November, but who's counting?
18. For sale is a Wal Mk II 5-string, serial no. W2791, made in November 1986, signed off by Carl. Mahogany core, beautiful striped Padauk facings, and an Indian Ebony fingerboard, which looks very similar to rosewood. I bought it from the second owner, who had it for 20 years, who in turn bought it from a London session player (whose name he couldn't remember, unfortunately) who was the original owner. It's in great condition for a 30-year-old bass, the only noticeable wear being a little finger marking above the neck pickup, the inevitable chip in the lacquer on the tip of the headstock, and slight buckle rash on the back of the lower horn. It's also fitted with a custom finger plate, which is held in place by the truss rod 'boat', and can easily be removed if not required. It comes complete with the original Wal case. Weight is 5.2kg on my digital bathroom scales. A re-fret and a full service was carried out by Paul Herman at Wal in February of this year, everything works just as it should, it sounds fantastic, and plays like a dream. No trades please. I live between Woking and Guildford, 10 minutes from junction 10 of the M25 in Surrey, postcode GU23. PM me if you want to come for a look. NOW SOLD
19. Not to my taste really, but pretty impressive for kids so young nevertheless. Perhaps the 'Leave' campaign could use the first track as their anthem...
20. Just been watching Ed Friedland's glowing review of this bass on YouTube - do the A.R.E. and I.R.A. manufacturing processes really make the tone and clarity as noticeably clear and consistent as Yamaha claim?
21.
Hi, wondered if anyone on this thread can help me out? I've recently upgraded my head to a Markbass little Mark tube ( 500w @ 4 ohm ) and now fancy upgrading my Ashdown ABM 410 to something more modern and lightweight. I tried out the Markbass 210 and it was lovely boy someone just round the corner from me is selling 2 of the TC Electronic k210 cabs for really a very good price so I'm certainly considering it. So my question is this; As there is only the 1 speakon connector on the back of my head, if I daisy chain the cabs in series, head to cab and then cab to head ( have I got that right? ) then would these cabs that have a power rating of 400w at 8ohms each become a power rating of 800w at 4ohm? The whole thing confuses me to be honest. I'm also looking at these from the point of view that I could maybe use just the one cab for a small rehearsal or jam so would only have the 400w @ 8ohm. With a 500w 4ohm head, I guess I'd have to be very careful with the output from the amp? Thanks all, keep it low!
If you daisy chain two 8 ohm cabs, the parallel connection will result in a 4 ohm load. If your amp had 2 parallel speakon outputs, it would still amount to the same thing regardless of which way you connect them. As far as I am aware, you can add the power ratings of the cabs together, so 2 x 400W = 800W. As long as you don't go below the minimum load on your amp (4 ohms) and run it sensibly, you shouldn't have a problem. In my experience, the potential for damage to the cabs has got more to do with how you run them, rather than the maximum output of the amp itself - in other words if you're stupidly loud and heavily EQ'd you can blow a speaker or horn with a 500W or a 1000W head. You could do damage more effortlessly with a 1000W, granted, but don't assume that because the figures all match up that you can go up to 11 with impunity! I run a GK MB Fusion 800W head into 2 x EBS Proline 210's, but with a custom-made series connection, as the cabs are 4 ohms each and the amp's minimum load is 4 ohms, so in series the amp is running into an 8 ohm load. If I used the standard parallel connections, the load would be 2 ohms, too low for the amp. The higher 8 ohm load limits the amp's output, but there's still plenty of headroom so I get loads of power and volume, but I still take it easy - there are limitations! I tried a pair of the TC K210's, and although they were definitely lighter, they weren't as tonally robust, and started to break up at a lower volume than the EBS cabs. As soon as you go down the lightweight route, there's always going to be something of a trade-off. I've used TC cabs, Markbass cabs, EBS Neo cabs, and even experimented with reloading standard cabs with Neo drivers to save weight, but they just don't shift as much air, and to my ears the sound lacks 'heft', for want of a better word. That's not to say a lightweight setup wouldn't suit your purposes, but proceed with caution!
22. My old bass! I still have his older black sparkle brother, which gets gigged regularly. Was it really 5 years ago?? I'm very tempted to buy it back from you, but I'm currently trying to shift a couple of others... GLWTS Ben!
