  1. I like Camel too. But I just think Sinclair was at his peak with the Hatfields. And having interviewed him for a sleeve note it’s fascinating he felt inferior to the other three musicians. Evidence that it’s always good to be in a band where everyone is supposedly better than you!
  2. Have you tried Hatfield and the North for RS? I know he was also in Caravan but H&TN are my fav!
  3. Thanks for blowing my trumpet!👍

  5. How dare you bring Bananarama into this?😈
  6. Turning a blind eye to the irony, I do sing songs in our set to vary things/ give the main singer a break, but my voice wouldn’t stand up to two sets. I therefore intend to learn the best way to strengthen and conserve it. Maybe at some point I can join the frontman club…but it won’t happen overnight.
  7. Saw the Specials twice - once in 1980, bottom of the bill at a three-band show when they could barely all squeeze on stage, and again a few years ago at a Dammers-less reunion. Quite a unique band, even then. But in 2020 the fights were more likely in the audience than on stage!
  8. A song I detest, but remarked to a mate yesterday the bassline is incredibly tasty
  9. Hence a separate post about singing lessons!👍
  10. I have another thread going about frontmen. If playing music was my living, I could probably put up with a lot more than I am currently prepared to. Mind you, in that case I’d hope there was a manager character slightly removed from the action to bang heads together/administer cups of tea etc.
  11. Gotta say the last couple of things I ordered from them have come through with no drama whatsoever. Would use Bass Direct again without hesitation.
  12. Bought my Who box set - can’t think of a more appropriate owner. The man’s a legend!
  13. After three years (and much bitching by me on this board), we showed our singer/harmonica player the door in September. He lasted three years before we found him insufferable - like Bryan Ferry, he thought he was the band, and eventually the worms turned. His replacement lasted four gigs before venting his spleen on WhatsApp and walking. His long list of perceived faults made it clear why he’s not been in a band for years. Decent singer though. I was away for the second and third gigs he did, which were apparently marred by him fiddling with the PA between every number. Fortunately on Saturday he had to sing sitting down (bad back) and it was my PA, so we did okay. Well, I thought we did! My question is - how do you attract a frontman who doesn’t want to change things? They will have their own style and ideas, sure, but I don’t want to bin three years’ work to conform with their wishes. Nor do I want to make another bad choice which could potentially sink us. We are a blues band, but not a straight-down-the-line one that plays 24 songs the same way every night. Thanks for your input as ever, BC.🙏
  14. This is home, and I am more than happy to contribute to the rent… Have a Cool Yule, y’all (did I really type that - fine me now!😂)
  15. Indeed. There was a bit of fallout wasn’t there? Naturally she got the credit. It happens… I knew the keyboard player on Sinead O’Connor’s first album who was sacked as soon as she broke through. He went on to be Art Editor of Radio Times, so a happy ending there.
  16. I kinda lost her as she wended her way Shania-wards. The first album was a cracker wasn’t it!?
  17. My wife is actually going to watch this. She is to be fair a concertina player…
  18. Or go on Strictly Come Dancing…
  19. Blimey. Welsh National Opera! Impressed…
  20. Have you had them? Were they worth it? Discuss, please…
  21. Tom bought a CD from me, paying well before I could deliver. Trusted and trustworthy Basschatter.
  22. Last gig of 2024 at the Glamping Site in Poole, Dorset that’s supported us (the Otis Jay Blues Band) for the past few years. Singer did his back in so sat, but he and we coped - with a few Val Doonican jokes on the way… Got Cath and Kerry to do backing vocals on Mustang Sally and they did us proud. Flea jazz, Elf, Barefaced One10, Xmas jumper - you can’t go wrong !
  23. Did this sell?
  24. That’s very kind of you @meterman. I might even return the favour and review it for Record Collector if you like. No problem if not, I am interested regardless. When in 2007 I joined BC, I had quit my football team Fulham and followed Farnborough in non-League home and away. Hence the boro; you’re not the first person to relocate me😀. I have now returned to Fulham as my sons are season-ticket holders, but catch Boro every so often. Not as good a story as yours, sorry…
  25. Ta. I will get this - sounds interesting!
