Review excerpt:
Oliver Gray is currently active in promoting Americana acts in the UK, having retired from a teaching career. From 2003-2023, he imbibed his favourite music via flying visits to the legendary SXSW (South by Southwest) festival in Austin, Texas. The two decades saw him graduate from naive tourist to expert in navigating the event's unique format, making friends (and sometimes enemies) with promoters, managers, fans and musicians as he went.
This handily-sized paperback draws from the many reviews he sent back to UK publications and websites, augmented by retrospective comment. Creative recycling, to be sure, but lovers of the Americana genre will wallow in this as if in a warm bath.
