1. I'm amazed. Whatever b*llsh*t will they come up with next? BTW: (Ultimate roasted Musicman?)
2. fingerboard wood mainly affects the attack in my experience.
3.
Said this before...get Sims to scan all the wood to your spec but you pick the combinations.
scan the wood?
4.
I wouldn't want to see Martin Carthy pulling rock star shapes & spitting fake blood.
I wouldn't mind seeing Susan Boyle do that.
5. Seems like niche marketing at its finest to me.
6. My Spectors also have soft maple bodies and sound nice and warm but have great mid range punch. Its an under rated material.
7. Mike is still capable of smiling, according to Luke. That doesn't say much for the rest of his body functions. It's such an tragedy. Lee Sklar was originally approached by Luke to fill the bass chair but he was already booked for the US tour with James Taylor. So Luke spoke to Nathan East instead - hence the special guest thing.
8. Any mods you do will need to be reversible or you'll end up losing yet more of that hard earned wonga. You won't be able to graft a musicman bridge onto a sub body without modifying the body. EB also made some incremental changes to the alignment of the bridge from about 93 onwards so your positioning may need to be off centre slightly in order to accommodate the point at which the strings break over the saddles. I'd suggest saving yourself a load of hassle and money by leaving the bridge alone. There's not too much wrong with it. But to answer your question: Ebay is the only real source and they're like chicken teeth. You'll be lucky to see one come up every two years.
9. Oh ok, the cheapest place to get something is in China itself. I don't know where to find one in Guangzhou but I did find places in shopping malls and cultural quarters that sold musical instruments. I even found one place that did Atlansia copies (although the shop owner denied emphatically that they were copies)
10. I'd suggest getting your dream bass from the US and having it imported into Hong Kong if you have someone who is prepared to sign for it and look after it for you until you pick it up. As Bloodaxe says, no import or sales duty. I got my first Smith by having it delivered to a workplace in HK as I was stopping over on the way to Nanjing.
11. The original colour wouldn't happen to be Inca Silver, would it?
12. Yes, but they're usually drunk and being egged on by their drunk mates. Honestly...don't they know anything? Thats no way to start a deep and meaningful relationship based on trust and respect.
13. http://www.theguitarsherpa.com/categories/...cteristics.html Just found this link library on tonewoods. I'll pin this topic too, given it pops up regularly enough.
14. Live At the Aladdin is a great dvd - he loosens up with the band nicely. The Year2K one is my fave though. There are loads of Prince bootlegs from all points in his career. But I'm not about to divulge my sources publically. Some of them are crap anyway. But the soundcheck recordings are pretty good - anything where he has to interact with people.
15.
No probs mate
cheers!
16. I saw him twice at the O2 and the concerts were OK but the aftershow parties were truly life changing. Astounding band. Thats all I'll say.
17. Would someone mind bagging me a copy please?
18. thanks for doing this Linus, you've inspired me to think about who I could tap up now...

20. I don't really care much for vintage, but if the instrument has a story behind it then its interesting.
21. Stick by your guns and wait for word of mouth to get around.
22.

I noticed an awkward looking John Peel on a mis-mimed mandolin solo. How on earth did they manage to persuade him to do that? Re: bass used, I wondered if it might have been a two pickup Gibson of some kind played on the bridge pickup. Didn't sound warm or crisp enough for a Fender.
23. All graphite necks should be manufactured with truss rods unless the manufacturing is perfect and the necks come with a life time guarantee against warping. Graphite necks warp - I know because I've owned 3 early 80s Cutlass basses and a 95 Modulus Quantum all with necks like bananas. Steinberger necks are designed differently to Status/modulus necks being solid resin based rather than hollow laminated monocoque. Later necks did feature truss rods. I've got 10 of 'em sitting at home here with truss rods in. The one for sale is salvagable but it will require a complete defretting and the fingerboard will require reprofiling, refretting and dressing.
24. A straight neck, lighter gauge strings and lower action all help. Sounds like the neck in your Ibanez is still fighting the string tension. How new is it? You might have to give it some serious gigging over a couple of years for the instrument to settle down.
25. How does the NYC compare to your Celinders?
