2. I hate hearing about stolen gear as well, we always made sure someone was with the van and cars when we were loading it up in London. My worst nightmare is having stuff nicked.
3. that looks in amazing condition, good score!
4. Doh. Good point, well presented. I hope the same applies to his drummer too then we can all form an orderly queue.
5. Looping live with a band is a nightmare unless you can lock the drummer into a MIDI click. Consider yourself duly warned.

The biggest difference IMO are the levels of input gain and the tweakabiilty of the eq. Mesa Boogie Bass 400+ for me all the way as it was clean, flexible and very powerful. I wouldn't mind having another.
7. Fair enough point about the vid gents, there's another one where exactly the same thing happens but its at a party and two guys are goofing around. Perhaps that might have been less shocking. Sorry about that, my bad.
8. If so, could I ask a favour of you via PM?
9. This guy's learned how to slap too.
10.
Just arrived after reading about this site on Talkbass.
We are Basschat, welcome. Please take a seat, a moderator will be here shortly with the spankatron to carry out a formal initiation and assimilate you.
11. Not much change for me since the last time this question popped up: Sharay Reed Meshell Ndegeocello Bernard Edwards Gene Perez Plus (depending on my mood): Nate Watts (Stevie Wonder) Julian Crampton Special mention to Leland Sklar, only because the more I get to know him, the more respect I have for him. He has his sh*t figured out.
12. oh blimey, they're very reasonably priced for a limited edition. I was expecting them to be marked (aha, get me) up at a premium.
13. thats quite a sexy bit of kit...I wouldn't mind having a go on one of these pedals...one day.

16. Doesn't seem to be a lot of difference in terms of construction between this bass and a Roscoe Century. This seems much better value though. Have a bump on me.
17. Fodera.
18. Just found this vid which offers a surprisingly clear illustration of how deadspots work. http://www.wimp.com/rubenstube/
19. I've heard these basses can be a little lacking in mids thanks to the Barts, which is why I never bought one. The ones loaded with the Villex system are apparently much better.
20. Respect for the bloke/band who is paying you, even if you think he's/they are a knob. Trust that the bloke/band knows what he/they want and you're there to help him/them get it. Know your role as the bass player and be accommodating. Don't offer unsolicited opinions unless others have run out of theirs or someone asks you for them. Swap stories if they're funny.
21.
There were a couple of changes through the Sabre's lifetime. Early ones had exposed pole pieces on the pickups, but later ones were covered and had a 3 way switch instead of the toggles. The later ones also adopted the stingray bridge of the time:
The reason for that was because they redesigned the neck pickup so that it had 8 smaller pole pieces rather than 4 larger pole pieces. This happened because the neck magnets in earlier models were so strong that they choked the strings. There were also changes to the preamp, including a simpler layout and no series parallel or boost switches. (I owned an 83 Cutlass II.)
22.
Interesting, why would you suggest that?
Because a new neck will sound different. The wood in a new neck won't have had time to get used to the string tension so you'll have a slightly more aggressive sounding instrument...although you may like that of course!
23.
buy a fretless jazz neck and stick it on
+1 get one of the same age however
24. Nothing wrong with a high impedance pickup if it sounds OK to you.
