It's a shame we can't set it up as a badge to win, isn't it?

  5. Played the bass (quietly) to the unborn this evening - apparently it kicked hard.

I'm going to take that as a positive crowd reaction.

It's the prenatal equivalent of hammering on the walls and telling you to turn that racket down.

Congratulations! How do you feel about having a boy?

Wise words from Daz there, too.  It can be gruelling and we have hired help!  Public holidays for us consist of non stop sleep deprivation while my daughter sleeps with us and she's recently started sleep jumping.  She'll feel for my body with her feet and pretend it's ground, then she'll try jumping up and down which in reality is her just kicking me with both feet at the same time.  She doesn't do it with my wife...oddly enough.

  7. Anyone out there able to source parts for and build a seven button footswitch?  I have the schematic but wouldn't know where to begin...

It's just channel and effects loop switching for a preamp.

Backing out of multistorey car park bays next to support pillars are my nemesis.  But yes anything below window line of sight is always a risk.

  11. Kelvin McKenzie in the doghouse again then. For saying the families of lost loved ones should sue the Chinese Government. Meanwhile a consortium of businesses in Las Vegas commence a class action against the Chinese Government.
And right now on USA Today, this:
As the coronavirus pandemic sweeps the globe, one fact is increasingly clear: The Chinese Communist Party caused this crisis.
At least the dogs are back in the doghouse in Shenzen. But no doubt they'll be back in the fryer once this sh*tstorm blows over.

  12. On Sunday I'll be interviewing one of my all time bass heroes: the great Tim Lefebvre! If you have questions for this giant of bass, hit me up, and you'll hear it back in my podcast :)

  13. Is it just me or are secondhand basses getting more expensive recently?

Only because some new basses are several thousands of pounds more expensive.  I can't afford a used Ken Smith now and I could 10 years ago.  There seem to have been a few hyper priced boutique bass brands popping up in the last few years also.

  14. FFS, I went in for a replacement filling and after 2.5 hours came away with prep for two crowns (prepaid).  I hate it when events deviate from the plan.

Hah, I paid for them in 2016 because my back teeth are basically crumbling due to stress grinding in my sleep and very tall cusps.  It wasn't urgent work but since I was there and they had been paid for...urgh.

  15. Hi guys. Any thoughts about how to choose better pickup and electronics for my Ernie Ball Musicman StingRay 4 3band eq?
I want more mids and less treble than in factory pickup and electronics. Which one will be best in my case? There's so much options on market and I almost always bump my mids and cut some treble on my Stingray so I need something that it will be more transparent and flat sounding or at least more mids and less treble. Thanks!

They're not as important for bassists as they are for guitarists.  Just get some pickups that can give you everything you want to hear.  Although bear in mind they're passive (therefore subtractive) in their effect which means they can take frequencies away but they can't add them.  Also, they are fairly coarse in how they respond so you can ask for a peak but it's quite wide in it's bandwidth, you can ask for highs to be taken away and added but if you add them then usually there is a sacrifice in warmth.  Conversely if you want warmth then you can get it but it means the pickup becomes woollier sounding - although that can be remedied to a small extent with magnet type (ceramics) and wire (thicker).  But where that leaves the mid peak you asked for after all the faff is anyone's guess.

As for preamp, if you're nit picky then get something which gives you the control you want.  The frequency centres can be quite important for bass, mid and treble.

But if you are looking for a particular timbre (ie. how can I make this bass sound more like a Smith/Rickenbacker/Status/Alembic), neither will give it to you by themselves.

  16. Is there a manufacturer who has or still makes self biasing valve bass amps?  The nearest amp tech to me lives in Hong Kong...700km away.

I remember Traynor did one with LED bias indicators on the back.
