1. From what I've heard about the silverburst ones they're made in China and have Epi guitar pickups under the chrome covers. Not a good option unless you really want that colour and can afford to change the pickups. I had an Alpine White MIK one. Didn't investigate what it was made of, but the finish and build quality was immaculate. Pickups had a nice growl and the neck was very comfortable. A red one went on ebay a few days ago for £180 - if you can get one at that price it's a real bargain.
2. Makes me wonder if people read through their ads before they post them. There isn't even a joke you can make about that headline without getting into trouble.
3.
Does anyone else think a private listing for a bass might be hiding something in the bidding dept? Not like it's anything to be ashamed of.
The seller for this auction has contacted me and assured me there was nothing sinister about the private auction. I'm quite happy to accept his assurance. Nigel - since you're a member now, come in and join the fun.
4.
What about putting an aluminium neck on an Epiphone? Then you could have an Epidural.
At least that would be painless.
5. Has no one got a "Made in the Ibanez Factory"? Thought not, they're rare.
6. I had a Korean Epi Tbird and the neck was good, although I prefer precision necks to jazz anyway, so not everyone will agree. So you have a jazz body with a funky chunky neck. Probably lose the neck dive because of the jazz body shape. Sort of like a poor man's Gibson Victory?
7.
Good advice guys, thanks. The price will stay at 280. I got it for around that anyway, so even if I got a bargain I am happy to send it on for a fair price (Good Karma all round .) Thanks for the interest, pms replied to. I am in Edinburgh but of course am happy to arrange postage.
You'll get on well here, especially amongst defenders of The Spirit of Basschat Now someone buy this - if I have two bloody heavy basses arriving in one week, the UPS man will kill me, never mind my wife.
8. Just a silly idea, brought on by seeing a Epi Tbird neck for sale on ebay. If a Tbird body with a jazz neck is a Fenderbird, what would a Jazz body with a Tbird neck be called? And more to the point, would it work?
9. Only just seen this. Really class job guys. Far better than Gibson often does by the look of it.
10. The tone's in your head. Fingers, amps, all that stuff, is just a conduit.
11. Of course it isn't. What's wrong with you people?
12. Any ad that mentions Jaco sends me running for the exit. As do ones that cite Jack Bruce and/or Andy Fraser. It's got a certificate though. What more do you want?
13.
Thanks guys, what do you recommend as a fair price? Iain
Go back to For sale: Basses and type Peavey T40 into the thread search box at the bottom left. Look at the ones marked Sold. It's up to you really. Just because we're saying hey that's a good price doesn't mean it's wrong, if you want to sell quickly and you're happy with it. You could raise the price and still be a reasonable deal, but might take longer to sell.
14. Does anyone else think a private listing for a bass might be hiding something in the bidding dept? Not like it's anything to be ashamed of.
15. Yes, I'm no T40 expert, but I did a double take on that price. Put it up quick, before someone with money sees it.
16.
Whats the Internet ????
You're looking at it. It's eating your brainz.
17. That copper shielding makes paper cuts feel quite pleasant.
18. Pretty quiet I think (you were asking about the socks )
19.
I don't think there are that many people stupid enough to have two bidders bidding on the same item for the same person for it to look like shilling Although it must have looked odd to the seller (The seller can see full Ids can't they??) to have two people bidding from Northern Ireland and within miles of each other for the same rare part One way to avoid it is use a snipe program I know folk don't like them. But if you haven't bid then the seller hasn't anyone to shill against.
Actually I would have thought that is exactly how shills work. You need one genuine buyer who really wants the item and one shill bidder to make sure they pay a hefty price. Admittedly you might expect the shill to be located near the seller, not the buyer, but it wouldn't be impossible. Sniping might work against a shill if there's no other interest - stops the small incremental bid. But doesn't work if there's other genuine bidders who don't snipe. I sometimes wonder when I see items with just one very early bid, which turns out to be a big one.
20.
The other I got asked to bid for a motor bike part, basically to get a part on his behalf as he didn't have an ebay account. The auction was near the price already so rather than wait till the end I put the bid on and sure enough it got maxed out. No bother phoned and let him know. Got told stick another £5 on there and then. Did so then it got out bid. He was watching from someone elses computer I got the call to say stick another few quid on. Did so, despite telling him to pick a price and I'd stick it on last minute but he wanted them put on there and then. This went on for maybe an hour, phone call every 15 mins or so until I was told to keep upping the bid every couple of minutes nearer the end of the auction. Until just before the end I get a final phone call "STOP BIDDING" turned out another mate who knew about the auction had took it upon himself to bid on his behalf but failed to mention it, he'd phoned up saying he was bidding on the auction but someone keeps bidding against him . So we ended up in a bidding war to buy the same item for the same guy Or One of us was shilling for the seller
That's an example where it would look to anyone else like shill bidding, but wasn't really. I wonder how much of what is thought to be shill is actually innocent.
21. I had an Epi Tbird with a Ritter bag. It was ok, but I didn't have it that long, and I've found with Ritter in the past the zips on the pockets tend to jam, so I wouldn't be surprised if seams and other parts weren't that strong. Warwick Roksac, if you can find one the right size, are brilliant, the zips will hold the jaws of hell closed and the premium ones have massive padding. Protec cases are pretty good - I inherited a standard Pro Pac with my Ripper. The soft cover over a rigid frame gives you more support for the neck, with less weight than a solid case. Only thing is the lid was hinged with just a strip of canvas, which was starting to come apart with age. Maybe the Hiscox Large Bass case would fit too, there's a big body cavity.
22. I found Chromes too tight and bright, so they may be exactly what you want. I've used Rotosound for years, don't seem bright to me at all, but then I've had the same set on my P for at least 5 years. With Rotosounds, the surface is a bit rough, which I like because there's a bit of grip under the left hand. Tried some Fender flats recently - cheaper than the others, very smooth surface, tension similar to Roto - and bright green silks, which are a bit of an acquired taste, to say the least.
23. I had the Galli Black Nylons, which felt quite floppy and sounded very acoustic. I couldn't see a use for them unless you were really trying to emulate an upright.
