Nice tone and good output. £12.50 posted.[/s] [s]3) Fender-style bridge from SX bass. 7-hole fixing. Complete with screws. £7.50 posted.[/s] [s] 4) Tort 3-ply Precision pickguard, generic from eBay seller. 13 holes, used, some scratches. 3. Bump for neck, other bits in new thread.
4. 2 pairs, mounted straight. How well would that work? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BASSO-stile-MANOWAR-...G-/110651254523
5.
MB1. Ursula Andress?
Unless he means Ursula Minor. In which case we may need social services.
6. Bare body and neckplate sold, leaving the other parts and of course the neck. I'll put some pics and prices up later, but if anyone wants to get in ahead of the rush PM me.
7. Bump for split sale.
8. Decided to split my parts bass into two lots. 1) [s]SX Precision body, pickups, pickguard, electronics, bridge, neck plate. All working, pickguard is cut a little too deep around the neck pocket, not a big deal once a neck's on. Various bumps and scratches when you look close up. New 500K pots and cap, good range of tone from bright to dark.[/s] Body SOLD 2) [s]Vintage brand neck. Maple/Rosewood with skunk stripe. Truss rod works, neck straight. Front of headstock sanded, but there's a couple of dents still showing, no logo, finished in tinted nitro. Includes SX tuners. £25 + postage.[/s]

10. INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS ARE A WASTE OF TIM!
11. Wasn't you that told him all that stuff then? Once you've seen "I know nothing about guitars" you can fill in the rest.
12. There have been suggestions these are the same source as SX, but maybe the really cheap starter ones.
13. Decided to split this in 2 lots. See here
14. If you just want the rubber bit to stick under a bridge cover, I got one of these off eBay. It's just a rubber strip with a self adhesive backing, not really specific to Ricks. Having said that, I found it did the job too well, stopped the strings stone dead. So if anyone wants it for £2 posted, send me a PM.
15. I've got a set of Fender flats and I can't see anything wrong with them, except the silks are bright green, which might not be to everyone's taste. They're very smooth compared to Rotosounds, which are a little rough to the touch.
16. Have a look at this thread. The spec originally copied from the Dawson's ad is short scale, but if you look at it now, it's listed as long scale. In either case, the Epi "60s Club" reissues have dot markers, whereas the standard ones have blocks. As hillbilly says, there definitely were some short scale models shipped, so it's all a bit confusing, to say the least. Anyway, we've established that bassjamm's is long, so let's hope someone comes along soon and buys it.
17. I suppose they do have guitars on the Antiques Roadshow. Nice job on the headstock, but what happened to the text in the listing? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Antique-Vintage-Gibs...=item3a63a0de37
18.
It is 34" scale according to the specs online
It was the specs online that were in doubt.
19. So is it long scale? Looks like it, but there's been some doubt ...
20.
Are the EMG pickups active or passive?
I've seen a couple for sale used where the seller says they're passive so I guess they are. Ones in the shops don't say specifically.
21.
Not sure that you can claim that it is 'the most versatile' but I know what you mean. What tends to happen is that if you have a very simple bass (or even a complicated bass that you keep on one setting) then you learn to play around to find different tones; you'll vary your attack, where you pluck the string, how you damp etc. etc. There is something to be said for having it simple and using your fingers to coax what you want out.
I'm sure it's in my head more than my fingers. Years ago, when we were still playing All Right Now, I'd been listening to Free Live, the really deep, farty EB3 tone. That's what was in my head as we went into the solo. Didn't expect to get it from a Precision though. Frightened me half to death.
22.
In short, I don't think it's the bass - I think it's me!
There's a lot of truth in that. Some people on here obviously feel very good about playing high end, expensive basses. Just the quality of the thing seems to be enough. That doesn't work for me at all, actually makes me quite uncomfortable. Also don't like bright colours, exotic wood, flashy shapes or active circuits. Fortunately I have a couple of black, unflashy basses that sound good and play well, but it's taken a long time and quite a few other basses to get there.
23.
Why thank you so much you cheeky so 'n so It's a Spector Euro 5 EX - although I did try out a Warwick 5 string at the same time & went with the spector because I felt the bottom B was tighter and more punchy whilst the Warwick's B felt too wobbly and wolly sounding for my taste.
Now I understand your dilema. I've had 3 5-ers, one of which was a Spector Rebop. I sold the other two without a thought and no regrets. The Rebop only went when it became blindly obvious even to me that I didn't need a 5 and using one was just causing me problems I didn't need either. The difference is, I bought mine used from the US when the currency was in our favour and I easily got back what I paid for it. The only sense in which I regret selling it is I still look longingly at 4-string Spectors, but that hasn't translated into buying one - yet.
24. I have one bass that works for anything I do, whoever I'm playing with, whatever type of music. It's a Fender Precision, one passive pickup, one volume, one tone control, which I rarely touch. I've had numerous other basses, with 2 pickups, various combinations of volume, blend and tone controls, filters, chokes, active and passive ... and they're all good for some things and not others. Seems odd that the bass with fewest options seems to be the most versatile ....
