1. I had one of these when I was a teenager - at least, the 4-string version. Wish I still had it - if this were a 4 it would be mine.
2. I guess we all have different tastes. I think Black Holes is a fantastic album and still listen to it regularly, but that's about it. The Resistance is one of the worst albums I've ever heard - cod chopin meets second rate Queen tribute band.
3.
Colin Fulton "][email protected] thoroughly recommended
+1 for Colin.
4. How strange, what have they done with the G-string, wrapped it round the string tree?
5.
I'm not familiar with the FingerClamp, but if it's just an easily undone nut clamp, it does not solve the problem: on a floating bridge guitar, if you detune the E to D, the loss in tension affects the rest of the strings which go out of tune too.
Ah, OK - I was thinking about the problem of fannying about with Allen keys inbetween numbers. I don't know whether it has a floating bridge - there is one in the house somewhere that belongs to my son, I will see if I can find it. We had a guitarist with a new-ish Strat which exhibited similar symptoms - break a string and all the others went miles out of tune because of the tension change. Utterly useless. Hardails are the way to go, or Biggsby.
6. Yamaha solved the Floyd Rose problem with the FingerClamp, as fitted to the RGX 620 but it doesn't seem to have caught on. Takes about 2 seconds to undo the clamp, lower the bottom string to D, and do the clamp up again.
7. I have a Nordstrand in my Precision, and it sounds great
8. That's a great shame Clarky, it was very evident how much this band meant to you. Still, onward and uppards, as the bard said.
9. I've not heard of them either. Not exactly local to us, the other side of Eye. I usually take my setups and amp repairs to Paul Glazebrook in Kesgrave who is very good and doesn't charge nearly enough. There's also Colin Fulton in Little Glemham if you need a luthier.
10. Webstrings Detroit bass - www.webstrings.com/electric_bass_strings_detroit-nickel.html
11. Appreciate the sentiment, but you're a month early. It's Saturday 17th March.
12. EdwardHimself, you will have to hurry up - I've just found out from the Mandolin Cafe site that Epiphone have discontinued the Mandobirds both 4 and 8 string versions, just a few days ago. Or save up a bit more for one of these babies: www.almuse.co.uk/mandolin_gallery.html
13. I have one of those, although its the 4-string variety. But it sounds good through a chorus, and is a lovely shade of seafoam green. There is some tab at Mandolin Cafe - www.mandolincafe.com . Don't tend to use tab mice elf.
14. In Macedonia, they make bagpipes out of whole goats. I saw someone playing one like this in Poland. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImtjPPBSr8I Tip: if you're at work, don't go searching google for 'man blowing goat bagpipes'
15. Seems to be just the CXL cabs that are affected by this. My LMII is quite happy to drive a pair of 8-ohm VL110 cabs all day long without any overheating issues. The iAmp 350 is of a similar age, and that only runs to a minimum of load 4 Ohms, unlike the newer iAmp 500 and 800.
16. I'll take the 5-string sets if they're still available - please PM to sort out the details.
17. +1 for the Eye and the London Aquarium. I think it's cheaper to book the Eye on line than queue up and buy a ticket on the day. Duck Tours URL: http://www.londonducktours.co.uk/ Most of the museums will involve a fair bit of walking. For musical instruments, you want either the V&A or the Horniman museum, which has a fantastic collection of instruments but is a bit of a trek to get to.
18. Check out Bellowhead and their amazing percussionist.
19.
Ahem, post #28
Oh, yes. Sorry I missed that.
20. 3 pages and no-one has mentioned Jaco?? Richard Bona has some nice lines, very understated most of the time.
21.
No less than three bands (including ours - guilty as charged) were practicing this last night, and that's just at the practice room place we use (The Depot in Edinburgh).
What took you so long? We learnt it for a music festival last summer. Still use it for the odd party gig, the punters seem to like it. I think it's quite enjoyable to play, secret is not to overdo it.
22. Some of that gear is pretty rare and recognisable. I take it they've done the usual things with contacting Cash Converters and all the local music shops?
23.
For some reason, it never occurred to me that you could play a violin and do BV's at the same time.
If you have enough double chins anything is possible, just ask Iain Telfer of Oysterband. Alex, great performance under the circs and I really hope you get your stuff back.

25. An eventful evening in the wilds of Suffolk. Sound check - guitarist sounds fine until he picks up his strat, it starts feeding back and making unpleasant noises. I plug in my bass, and the bass amp starts broadcasting the background noise, and then feeds back too. WTF? After a bit of headscratching - inspiration - there must be an inductive loop somewhere, causing the single coils in my bass and the strat to behave like hearing aids! Sure enough, I found the culprit and turned it off, and normality was restored. Thank you basschatters, I'm sure my deductive powers were a result of a half-remembered conversation on this forum. Gig was great - journey home was interesting in the snow. Fire up the Quattro, Polly!!
