UK ASHDOWN ABM 500w 4x10 combo.SOLD!SOLD!SOLD!
pete.young replied to blunderthumbs's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
I Can't believe that this has been on here since Sept and I've not even had a tyre kicker.
Me neither. Normally I wouldn't give anything Ashdown house-room, but I've used one of these and they are different, they really make a great sound and plenty of it. -
Compression - Never really thought about it before. Until now.....
pete.young replied to krispn's topic in Effects
You need to search for threads like this one: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/167088-best-compressor/ and what you're looking for is posts by 51m0n . -
I might have an issue with my Reidmar. At loud volumes it's cutting out when I slap...as if it was hitting a limiter. It has only started to happen over the past couple of weeks. Even when the compressor/limiter control is off it still happens. Has anyone come across this yet? It could be that I am pushing the amp to its full capability, but it's a concern nonetheless Hi my man where did you get to with resolving your problems
See post #350 on the previous page of articles.

Dropkick Murphy's might be worth a listen too if you're more into the electric side of things.

If you want totally clean, you need to put Euphonic Audio on your list.

Is the guy standing under the left-most LED light about to use MacDaddy's head as a dart board?

Live Music Pubs In And Around London Area
pete.young replied to Hobbayne's topic in General Discussion
Good luck. All these things can be done for little money or effort, and will help your cause: Get some business cards done, you can get 250 for free if you don't mind not choosing the design. Get a facebook page up, and update it regularly. If you have the facilities, record a couple of numbers at a practice and burn some CDs to distribute. +1 to not offering to play for free. If you're feeling generous, tell the landlord what your fee is and offer him a discount for the first gig. -
Used it again last night in a village hall at our practice, on a wooden floor. Once again much improved. I've ordered one this morning, so dave.c can breath a sigh of relief :-) Finally, there is a downside. The combination of this and the thumpinator means that I can now hear everything so clearly, it's painfully obvious how much fret buzz and rattle my bass is making. At first I thought it was the mid-range driver breaking up! Out with the allen keys and screwdrivers for a bit of tweaking.

Well, each to his own I suppose. It looks to me like it was made out of an old sideboard. -

2x Hartke HX112 1x12 cabs. 4/8 Ohm switchable *SOLD*
pete.young replied to Dood's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale

Could be right Liam, it's just that every time I see the phrase 'get the full power from the amp' I start to lose the will to live. To get the max volume, he needs to run 2 4Ohm speakers one off each channel and move the maximum amount of air. As far as I can see, the spec doesn't say what the output impedance or power delivery is for bridged mode.

Who can restore my 9 string Conklin? PICS UP!!
pete.young replied to binky_bass's topic in Repairs and Technical
Might be worth having a word with Mike Walsh at Iceni / Purple Chilli - they're based in Witham. -
I borrowed one of these from Dave.c for a couple of gigs last weekend and I have to say I'm impressed. Gig no. 1 was in a large marquee on a stage about 4 feet off the ground - a steel or aluminium framed structure which looked like it was based on a trailer. Bass player uses a Yamaha EUB through a Hartke kickback and DI's into the PA. Stage sound is normally boomy even on a concrete floor - this time it was much tighter, more focussed and the sound on stage meant we could hear everything more clearly as a result. It was an improvement from when we played the same gig last year. Gig no. 2 was in a small pub in Ipswich (The Spreadeagle, for locals) which has recently installed a 'stage', a 6-inch high wooden structure (more of an overgrown drum riser). I was on bass, used my EBS cab (slightly larger than the pad) and Markbass head. Cab within a foot of the back wall. I've played the venue several times before and once again I think my sound was a definite improvement. So for me, it's worked well and I'll probably buy one. I don't understand why using a stand will reduce the amount of vibration transmitted to the floor. It seems to me that any stand capable of holding up a 2x12 or 4x10 is going to be very rigid and will transmit the same amount of vibration to the floor as the cab would. Anyone?

The vocal track is even more unpleasant than Adele's. That takes some doing. -
Really dumb Speakon to 1/4in jack question
pete.young replied to SimonH's topic in Repairs and Technical
A word of warning though - not all Speakon sockets will accept a jack plug. I don't know what's fitted to a 104HF and the unhelpful Markbass web site doesn't offer the option of dowloading the manual. You might need to experiment, or find somebody who has one. -
Second hand OLP MM3 if you like a narrow spacing, or Bass Collection if you like a wide spacing - either of these should be under £200. If you want to spend a bit more and a narrow spacing is to your liking, you should be able to find a G&L 2500 Tribute for around £350.

FFFFUUUUUU note to self, never put stickers on a bass ever again
pete.young replied to jojoagogo234's topic in Bass Guitars
Mayonnaise is also very effective at removing sticker goo and won't damage the underlying finish or require you to handle everything with gloves on, unlike some of the solvents being suggested here. At least no-one has suggested trichloroethylene yet! -

pete.young replied to eubassix's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Thanks / as expected: collated and to be forwarded. Latest Q:- Is there any way to secure the money into the bank and tell them about this bass and if this is fraud they can refund the money and sent this guy to the court ? !!!!!!
Just a hunch, but when you travel on the bus, does the nutter always sit down next to you? Not sure what you've done to deserve it. -
Ki0gon, I'm not sure what that link you posted is supposed to demonstrate, but when I followed it I got 40 pages of search results. The problem is this - go to the Feedback forum, type in 'pete.young' and it brings up one thread - the one tom1946 started when he couldn't find the original thread (started by Higgie in 2007 on the old forum).
