  1. I've heard they're a nightmare with this stuff before , apparently they won't sell their proprietary drivers either , do they think people will make fake MB cabs !!!
  2. Think it was pretty common place, I've heard a few older guys talk about putting their uprights on the roof, pre 80s vast majority of cars were saloons so without a band van I guess it had to go on the roof I've got an Octavia hatch and can just fit a mono gigbag straight across the very back of the boot
  3. I played an ultra jazz V at a shop a few months ago and the g was right on the very edge of the board , shocking QC for £2249
  4. Oh no hope he's okay , called Rob Palmer I think if anyone knows him?
  5. Personally I'd avoid spending a load of money essentially devaluing your bass when the outcome is such an unknown, as others have said I'd try different strings and a higher mass bridge and setup or just get a 35 incher , I've got a bassmods 6 string jazz 35inch and the B does sound better than my shuker and sire 5 strings , I realize they may be other multiple factors contributing to this but it seems like it makes a difference to me
  6. Looks like Jaco is playing double stops in the 1st and 3rd pics and maybe a slide or just muting all the strings in n the middle one , just watched a few of his vids and looks to me like he pretty much always has his thumb on the back of the neck using finger per fret in the middle of the neck or double bass style finger1,2,4 down at the nut end I think it would be less efficient to play those third chromatically up to the fifth then sixth up to octave lines that he did loads with his thumb over the top , I'm comfortable with calling thumb on the back of the neck orthodox good technique but also comfortable with acknowledging that anything can work and some players have idiosyncratic awkward looking technique yet have great technical facility
  7. Yeah that's what I meant , I'll get extra long scale , thanks
  8. I've got a six string 35 inch scale strung thru body, do I need extra long scale? Any recommendations , my bass is a bassmods jazz , going for a modern gospel chops type sound , I'm more of a p bass with flats guy normally so don't much about this stuff
  9. I've played my mates one a fair bit , the 34 inch scale and pick up in the precision sweet spot marks it out from the other semi basses, I loved it sitting down but struggled with it stood up
  10. I've got a 66, 77 , 81jv , CS , and a classic vibe , they're all different but all do essentially the same thing I've played duff pre CBS p's and great resonant chinese squiers!
  11. I thought it was a shreds video when someone showed me this!!
  12. What's the difference?
  13. Yet you can get a 2nd hand squier classic vibe or sire for absolute peanuts !
  14. These guys have been on my radar for a while, think I saw some vids with mononeon, incredible virtuosos and interesting to hear them after the Anderson Paak record deal , don't often hear such technical muso music presented in such a commercial way
  15. Looks great but not sure there's any in the UK at the moment?
  16. Wow , I'll check em out , had an old lm2 for years as a back up , bombproof, never that into the old cabs but I'll investigate these
  17. Hmmm I had a retro 210 and found it a bit indistinct , lacking punch , I'll check out the super twin though, voiced quite differently to the retro range?
  18. Had enough of lugging my ceramics around , ideally single cab , currently using a pair of berg hd112 , love the sound and I'll keep em but want something lighter as well
  19. The set up I'm thinking about is a Dickinson P1 which is a high end valve pre pedal which I'll sometimes run into my amps but wanted recommendations for a a power only amp to run it through for a more portable set up when needed , I agree Bigred that rack mount stuff negates the point of it for my use in which case I might as we'll put the pedal through the class d amps I've got Are there any class D power amps out there more like the quilter form rather than rack?
  20. Yeah don't disagree but it's often a trade off and often just a monitor if there's a DI for foh
  21. Can't be bothered lugging big valve amps around and not crazy bout my class d amps tone so I'm thinking of using a valve pre but will need to get a power amp, am I right in thinking it doesn't have to be a bass amp, any ideas? Small light and powerful preferably
