  1. Thanks for that , I'll check the acoustic one too , couldn't believe the prices Unfortunately getting it eq'd on the desk isn't an option , it's a super (s)wanky place and the soundman is a bit stressy and clueless and insists the mix is sorted and he'll take care of it when he wanders around with an ipad , for this reason I brought my mesa d800 to use as a pre and he said no you can't use amp , I said I haven't got a cab just using it as a pre but he didn't understand and said no you can't you use an amp!! I'm not gonna fight it as apart from that it's a good gig, great musicians , decent money etc so pick your battles and all that Know what you mean about the bridge pick up on jazzes , I have a fair bit of neck in there as well and it's the most balanced jazz I've had
  2. Oh b*ll*cks, well spotted mate
  3. Already or it rolled right off , good shout though
  4. I play Ps with flats for some things but it's a Latin trio and I'm going for more of jaco bridge pick up punchy sound , I'm using a 73 jazz with rounds which I love the sound of through an amp
  5. I've got a regular gig and I have to go through the PA , used to be upright but now with distancing in mind the management want electric so I've been using a jazz bass, it sounds a bit zingy and thin through straight into a DI box so wondered what people reckoned about a pre pedal to beef it up ?
  6. Great news , and I've been listening to Gary all day so some good came of the cruel hoax!
  7. I'd say the jazz is much closer to 60s lake placid blue and I doubt that with poly finishes your basses would of changed colour that much, is it weird how much they vary and age differently though when you compare pics of pre cbs instruments
  8. Haha , no purely kitchen based, Can't find the tongs then no problem just play double bass for a living for 20years and you'll have such thick skin on your fingertips you can dip em in boiling oil and not feel it!
  9. Did it yesterday, went pretty well , the skin on my 2nd finger is so thick from all the long gigs on upright (great for turning sausages) I think only the bottom bit will peel and 1st finger is fine , been playing bass guitar and all good ,thanks for the advice guys
  10. Hmm , thanks for the advice , think I'm gonna pop cos I think they'll burst on a gig and better to do it with a clean needle than a dirty old bass string??
  11. 1st gig on upright today since March and I've got dirty great blisters on my 1st and 2nd fingers, got a rehearsal on upright on Thursday, gig on electric Thursday night and a gig on upright on Saturday . I've played most days for the last 20 years so I haven't had em since I started , what do you guys reckon?
  12. Nice, what's the scale length?
  13. Wow Free sound amazing and there's a bass solo from Andy Fraser 33.15
  14. For me that's a great feel , sound and technique for a 10 year old , looks like he's loving it too, why all the hate?
  15. I only really play fender basses , it's weird how 1lb makes such a difference to my perception of the weight, it can't much make that much difference can it 9.5 heavy 9 medium 8.5 light
  16. Mesa d800 fits the bill
  17. Seems odd that this was on the BBC news front page , "the kick drum pedal has yet to recovered" alongside all sorts of hideous crimes and important stuff !!
  18. Yes mate, so many people get this wrong
  19. Where's your tone control at?
  20. I've gigged loads for the last 20 years and very rarely seen lockable storage big enough for a bass within a dressing room, if ever actually
  21. I think I do disagree about the rounds
  22. Lovely bloke, pleasure to deal with
