1. Just a suggestion if you don't mind it being more that 1u..I'm about to take the plunge on making a preamp separately by getting a rack eq and limiter, using a DI to get a balanced sound and using the eq as gain essentially. You go from the DI into the eq, then into the limiter and from there into the power amp..it also doubles up as a guitar rig too if you have a guitar cab handy I've been looking at pre-amps for a long time and never found one that has the right balance of price/quality that was on the market at the time. Good luck in your search!
2. Check out some of the mooer pedals. I have one of their pitch shifting pedals and its amazing for the price. I'm not sure how their distortions sound on bass but definitely worth checking out. Around £60 brand new and I'm sure you could find second hand models no prob
3. I'm very tempted by these amps at the minute too. Great deals on GAK and bassdirect.co.uk (£600 ) I just have to get rid of what I've got and prey that xmas doesn't rinse my bank account too bad. From what I have seen they look really versatile and I like that it has two separate power amps to save dicking around worrying about the impedance of your speakers
4. Great choice of bass. I've only ever played one bongo, it was a 5 string and I can't remember what the pups and electronics were but I do remember how comfortable and easy it was to play. The chap I knew didn't seem to get on with it and he traded it which was a shame, I've been wanting one ever since...
5. A nice chain I have always gone with no matter on the company is: Pitch shifting (octaves and other pitch shifters) --> Modulation --> Dirt/Fuzz -- Filters --> Reverb/Delay I find this is a good start point...but you can play forever with different setups.
6. Very very tempted by the oxide! Tomorrow is bill paying day so if I have funds left I will most likely be splashing out!
7. No worries mate, I will check the funds once the bills are paid
8. Very tempted by the swolen pickle! I will have to check the funds and let you know. Unless you are interested in a trade for MXR M80 DI+ and some cash?
9. Hi mate, wondering if you would consider a trade for the flying tomato for my mxr m-80 DI? Its about the same price i would sell for and im after a fuzz.
10. Good call on the moog! You won't regret it. As for other effects you might want some drive or fuzz of some kind..other than that you cant go wrong with some kind of pitch shifter and don't forget modulation..chorus..flange..phase.. There is a lot to choose from but don't be put off, experiment and have fun
11. Sweeet! Thanks for that. I shall have to get on it when the money comes rolling in...whenever that may be
12.
Exactly what I thought about the pedal on which this one is obviously based... Having built a mastotron clone I can tell you there's not much to these pedals. Nice variation on a theme with this one though!
How did the mastotron clone turn out? I had a look for DIY mastotron kits but i couldn't find anything.
13. I have the moog low pass filter. Started using it for big sweeps and wobbley bass lines. But now have it on most of the time, it provides a really nice analogue tone to it and really warms up your overall sound. I would highly recommend it. Well worth the money. Make sure to get an expression pedal or two though to get the most out of it.
14. Oh man this is a steal! Someone send me money!!
15. My Guitar player plays in stereo using two amps either side like you mentioned. You are right in thinking that it will make effects sound amazing but the reality for bass players is that it does sound better mono. We play a lot of d'n'b and so I'm using a lot of effects too and you get the most out of the bass by keeping it central..this is not to say you can't still have two amps and many cabs!
16. Many people use a preamp/poweramp combination. It's great for getting a sh*t-tonne of clean power and. You are right in that you need a preamp to boost your input signal to a 'line level'. There are many many options to choose from with preamps, you can look at pedals or rack units but its best to shop around really and look for what suits your style of playing best, best thing is, if you don't get on with one you can just swap them around. Good luck!
17. The important thing to ask yourself is: What difference will it make and is it worth the extra dosh? I can understand the why you would go for the TC rack unit as that looks pretty good, but as for shelving your existing pedals i personally would feel that would limit me as it makes it difficult to make quick tweeks on the fly. Its worth having a good think before you take the plunge
18. OOO Pics! Sounds like a good deal mate as long as it all working etc.
19. I have to go with the general majority here and say that it sounds like you would definitely be better off with single pedals. Much less confusion and you can pick and choose the order yourself plus you generally have a bit more control of the effects themselves. Multi-Fx are good for getting an idea of which effect does what and some people seem to love them but if you know what you want and have that sound idea in your head then your going to be better off with single effects.
20. More Rocktek love here! My first pedal was their Flanger and i've never found one i like since. I find it has a real vocal quality to the effect.
21.
Old topic but has anyone come across these 'Matrix Power Amps' made in the UK? they do a cool range of 1u power amps for guitar, not sure if they suitable for bass as well but I like the look of the GT1000FX 1u - http://matrixguitara...n.com/products/
I had a look at these guys after seeing this and it looks like they have another power amp that seems to be suitable for bass. Its the 1600w 2u model..http://matrixguitaramplification.com/products/gt1600fx-2u-rackmount-amplifier/ A little pricey if you were looking for a cheap solution but its lightweight and look at all the shiny colours!
22. Shi*t me! Thats nearly a grand off of that! Damn good deal.
23. The guitarist in my band uses one of the Digitech imac pedalboards..http://www.digitech.com/en/products/ipb-10-programmable-pedalboard. Just have to download a free app and theres loads of pedals to choose from and sounds spot on too. I hear they might be doing a bass version as well.
