2. It sounds to me that you've got a lot to learn in a little time. My suggestion would be to spend a few hours, it will turn into weeks as it's very addictive, at http://billfitzmaurice.info/forum/ Everything that you wanted to know about P.A. and you can build the cabs yourself and have pro equipment at semi-pro prices. For speakers I use Otop 12s and T39s and couldn't be happier. You'll find details of these and the whole range of cabinets on the index page, but even if you're not inclined to build your own cabs, the amount of information on there is amazing.
3. Monitors certainly help to sing in tune but I have my doubts as to whether this would be able to cut through the back line and drums and reach your ears before feedback took over. Probably good for acoustic bands though. Be interesting to see if others have tried one and what they thought..
4. I've just received an e-mail from Stringbusters with a 10% off Rotosound strings offer. If you're impressed with your complimentary set or feel miffed that you missed out, then here's the link. http://www.stringbusters.com/Ko-Bespoke/productlist.asp?cat=1/BASS%20STRINGS/BASS%20STRINGS%20ROTOSOUND
5. Always used to be a 100w head and two 4x12s and that did every gig you could think of. You'd need a 1000w to be twice as loud as 100w. I use 200w head and two 4x10s or an 8x10, great sound and enough for any gig.
6. Mine have arrived. Many thanks to Discreet and to Jason and Coral at Rotosound. I'll let you know what I think after a couple of weeks of thrashing.
7. Used to use 4 of these with a Super Bass 100. Brilliant sound.
8. Is the Fenderbird still for sale?
9. I replaced the JJ ecc83s in my Mywatt 200 with a trio of Tung Sol 12AX7 and I did actually notice a difference for the better. In my opinion that is. Tighter bass and less middle which I like.
10. P.M.d
11. I had this problem with a new bass that I bought and whatever I tried, different amp, cabs, strings, graphic eqs, infact everything I could think of, it didn't make any difference. I went back to the old bass and it was all there again. I'm assuming that it was the light weight body of the new bass that was the problem. Can you try a different bass and see if it's still the same? Good luck.
12. That's Corsa's half empty.
13. I've noticed that after a few years of being stored cone up, that'll come in handy one day, speaker cones do tend to sag downwards.
14. I thought that the first thing bass players did when they got a new P or J bass was to take the ashtrays off, put them in a drawer and then lose them. I know I did.
15. Still waiting.
16. Neither have mine and they're coming to Hastings.
17. That's not right, there must still be something wrong with the speaker or the way it's mounted. If it was alright before and isn't now I'd take it back again.
18. Tried some of these, http://www.hotroxuk.com/matched-valves-links-page-12ax7-6l6-909-0/preamp-valves-12ax7-ecc82jj-groove-tube-12ax7m-1885-0/tung-sol-re-issue-12ax7-set-of-5-mesa-boogie-triaxis.html in my Mywatt 200. I did notice a difference. Not quite as much middle as the JJ ECC83s that it came with and I like that. Try this for NOS or new valves. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMqJeIukXtE It's guitar but I could certainly hear the difference in tone and I guessed correctly.
19. Postman came and went, no strings yet. Oh well.
20. My first bass was a Vox Clubman only a single pickup though and that had been changed to a Burns Trisonic pickup. Trouble was that the Burns was deeper than the Vox pickup and it passed right through the body so the previous owner had glued a bowl of wood on the back to cover up the hole. http://www.vintagegu...ass/Clubman.php The bass, a Linear 30 and a 2 x 12 home made cab with only one speaker working cost me £5 in 1964.
21. Never had any problems with Gator Cases, it must be the luck of the draw.
22. Just to confuse you a bit more. Mywatt 200, It's a Hiwatt clone and seriously good. http://weber-amps.de/en/index.html
23. Sorry, Been at the hospital since 07.45 with my lady who was having an op today. discreet, I have e-mailed you. What a jolly nice man Mr How is. I use Rotosounds on my 8 string bass but I have to be honest and say that this is because they are the only company I can find that sell an 8 string set although to be fair I have no complaint with them at all but I also have nothing to compare them with. I think a fair and honest appraisal is the least we can offer after such a generous offer
24. I've used Hiwatt 100s in the past and they're fantastic. I've just bought a Mywatt 200, http://weber-amps.de/en/index.html It's a Hiwatt DR201 replica. It uses 4 x KT88s and has a sound that is pure heaven. Very well made and from ordering to delivery was only 2 weeks and it's only half the price of a Hiwatt. Check out the link and have a look. There's also a lot of talk about them on the talkbass forums.
