Squier Classic Vibe, Labella MUS flats, Gotoh Resolite GB528 tuners, and I'm installing a set of Sentell handwound pickups and a new wiring harness on Weds. Can't wait for that! It sounds fine as is to be fair, but, y'know how it is...

How about treating your P5 to a new nut with the slots cut to the string spacing of your Warwick, a good fret level (pleked if you can afford it) to get lower without buzzing, and a set of strings with a tapered B and E to help get the string spacing on your bridge closer together? There's a few slots to choose from on the bridge you have on your Pro5. You're nearly there really.

Or just the offset J pickup with the treble rolled back some. I'm sure the OP would have tried this though.

Is the whole bass an AI mockup or just the pickups? I love the look of that!

I've played with James a few times at open mike jams. He's incredible to be fair. I've seen older and well seasoned musicians shaking their heads and laughing as to what he's pulling off as they play together. Yes showboaty, but in a really lovely way. He's a nice fella for sure. Not an ego tripper. He asked for my number once as a backup option. Thinking that the now employer of NWR wanted my number for potential bass duties makes me grin. A story for the kids ☺️.

Yes. Long story. I should do a show and tell thread of my own actually. Might be helpful to others as I've made a few mods and I don't want to get into derailing someone else's thread! Cheers

I've also got a set of the GB528s on my Classic Vibe Mustang bass but interestingly, none of the screw holes lined up on that bass. I had to plug the standard holes and re-drill. Bit of a faff but easy enough. I was pleased that the set for the Sonic fitted exactly. On and done in 5 mins.

I installed a set of Gotoh Resolite GB528 on my Sonic. The two screw holes lined up perfectly with the right side holes on my neck. Yes you can see the two remaining holes but not enough to bother me. Great lightweight tuners that also look better from the front imo, as they're a bit taller than the stock ones which barely clear the top of the headstock. I'll take a pic when I get home...

Do some nice calming breaths to relax - deep and slow nose inhale as you count to four, hold momentarily, then mouth exhale for four. That will help you get started. Also, hydrate. This will help you avoid cramping up. Practice your song A LOT. Put the time in so at least you won't be worrying about that. It doesn't really matter if you make a mistake anyway. Everyone makes them. Remember, everyone there will be right behind you mate. For sure. So don't worry about them either. Just go out there and enjoy giving it your best shot. Best wishes to all.

Yes, I now have a Northwest Guitars w/b/w 3-ply guard on my black Sonic P (changed for the same reasons as the OP). It's top quality and a perfect fit 👍

I think the Ox recorded that using Rotosound tapewounds.

Whoa...Amazing job!! 👏👏👏 Well done sir!

Well, it's happening and from now on it will always be happening. I foresee a time when, eventually, most humans will step away from the Internet and leave it alone to amuse and lie to itself as it will be of no use to anyone anymore. I should write a sci-fi novella about that at least 🤔

It's a miracle if you can find the real stuff for sure 😉

The body looks to have the right pin marks top and bottom centre that would date it to the 60s. It does look to me to be as described. I could be wrong of course.

EW = Exotic Wood, such as mango 🥭 😉

If I had the money to buy a new American Fender, and knowing now what I prefer, I'd instead order a roasted Warmoth body, a custom roasted neck from Musikraft, then kit it out with my own choice of bits. It'd be more custom than a custom shop for the price of an off the peg usa Fender, and probably better quality than both.

5mm?!! Is that a typo?

A question for the group... Does anybody know when Fender first introduced the A width necks on Precision basses? I do love my mid-60s Ps but I now realise that a J neck works best for me, so I need to narrow down my 'window shopping' searches. Cheers, Si.

This is a great thread! Thanks for all the eq suggestions 👍 I'm currently working on being competent with a pick, something I've never been, and I struggled getting a good sound last rehearsal. Will be putting some of your suggestions to the test at rehearsals next week. As for picks, I've settled on the orange Dunlop tortex .60 with the TI flats on my P tuned up to F# for some Smiths tunes. Working a treat at home, hoping for the same live in the room now.

I can help. I bought a HB PB20, was disappointed* by the fit, finish and fretwork so sent it back. Bought a Squier Sonic P and apart from smoothing off some fret ends, it's great. Feels much better quality and a step up from the HB. *disappointed because I have a few HB instruments that are great.

I ordered a tenor ukulele from Aliexpress. Came with a gigbag and strap. When it arrived I had the gigbag and strap but no bloody ukulele! It cost me half of the original total to return it but I sucked it up just out of principle. As soon as I gave the tracking number I did get a refund immediately but not for the return shipping. Oh, and 7 months later my returned package of items arrived at my door for a second time. It had gone all the way to China and then back again! Maybe the return address was bogus? Never again.

I bought my first 'proper' bass from A1 (a semi acoustic Charvel Surfcaster which I still have). We used to make the pilgrimage there from sleepy North Wales every now and then. Amazing place at the time. It felt magical to us as teenagers because we knew that's where The Stone Roses bought all their gear, including Mani's famous Ric 4005. Happy days! ✊️🍋
