Yep. After reading a lot on here about Bass VI's, the more they began to make sense to me. I don't play in bands anymore and don't intend to either (family situation makes it impossible time-wise) and I love to play yet find it hard to enjoy playing bass at home as for me, bass playing is a social sport and my buzz mainly came from making others, good players, sound great if that makes sense? On my own, not so much. After going down the Bass VI rabbit hole it was only the Hooky 6 that really added up to something I could get into, to expand my creative horizons somewhat. A bass vi made for bassists with a size and string spacing that I feel I could realistically get on with (I'm 6'1" with massive hands. Hands that don't get on with guitars at all 😄) So, I've paid the preorder deposit for a nice black one. The next batch of black Hookys won't be arriving until December which is fine as I'll have time to save up the rest. I've got a good looper pedal and effects already. Should be fun! Any other Hooky 6 players here? How are you getting on with yours and what kind of things are you getting out of it?

The Revelation Bass VI also looks interesting as a modern alternative.

The dot positions on the new fingerboard have been changed to accommodate the badass bridge. I'd be tempted to replace the fingerboard and put an original 70s bbot bridge back on myself (I prefer the woodier tone of a normal bridge). I'd keep it fretless but whatever floats your boat. Nice bass! Edit... looked again and the saddles look all over the shop regarding intonation so gawd knows why the dots don't line up 🤷

Or reverse the P pickup so the treble half "leapfrogs" in front of the bass half 😉

Yes go for it (I would anyway as I'm not in a band right now). If they're good people to be in a band with then that's most of the hassle of being in a band already taken out of the equation, plus, as it's not your genre pe se then you'll be learning something new to put in your pot.

Oh yes! Don't Look Back In Anger is another one than makes me feel, just, angry. Firstly for NG's singing but mostly for that god awful drum break that sounds like somebody throwing a cardboard box down the stairs.

Nothing but respect for Vince Clarke - the quiet genius with the Midas touch. His remix 12" of Wrote For Luck by the Happy Mondays is the best thing they ever released imho and still gets a regular airing in my house to this day. 👌 Agree regarding DM btw 👍 He helped create some great bands and artists along the way didn't he? Always stepping aside when his babies could do it on their own then onto the next project before they blew up too big. It takes a rare kind of self confidence to choose creativity over cash, always looking forward. Although I expect he did alright with Erasure eventually. I wish I knew more about him to honest. I wonder if he's still at it?

I picked up a BB earlier this year and I really love it. It's a BB604 made in 2003. I had to sell my beloved 1965 P bass and needed to fill the void but wanted to try something different that wasn't a Fender (to avoid disappointment having reached "peak Fender" with my old #1). I wanted to find a bass that could cop a decent approximation of Flea's Blood Sugar Sex Majik recorded Wal sound and happened to see these mentioned on Talkbass. After hearing the sound sample I immediately googled for a BB604 and 5 minutes later (with never even knowing of their existence 10mins before that) I bought the only one for sale online in the UK from Bass Bros! (shout out to Will of Bass Bros 👌) It's been a revelation as it's fabulous to play in every way and the Nathan East spec preamp with it's sweepable mids filter and switch is a work of genius imho. I honestly don't miss that old Fender now. Not bad for a £375 bass (which I know is on the steeper side of what these can go for.) I'll be looking for a five string BB605 when the funds are there. Oh absolutely! I mean it's not like any of this is by choice after all. Some songs work for us and some just turn us off with no rhyme or reason. I do have a soft spot for Ferry Cross The Mersey though too 🙂 I also really like Reef and Amy Winehouse, unlike others here 😄🤷

Wichita Lineman. It's a highly rated song apparently but it completely turns me off. As I do my radio if I hear it starting.

I used to when I owned a Stingray. Sounded sweet once I removed the treble that could chip teeth.

I had some a long time ago. I wired the neck pickup in series to get as close to a P as possible, wired the bridge pickup in parallel for a humfree J. Looked like a Jazz but sounded like a P/J pretty much. Sounded awesome through an old valve Ampeg rig. I lowered the neck pickup down a bit further than a regular J pickup that, because they're so powerful, you have even more tones to play with by experimenting with their height. Easy to find your own personal sweet spot though. Highly recommended and everyone should give them a go at least once imho... A good idea that I never tried would be to get push/pull pots on both volumes for series/parallel on each volume pot. A 0.022k cap works best if my memory is correct. Hit up basschatter Ki0gon for a ready to go wiring loom in said configuration to make life easy! Hope this helps.

Yes, and Frank speaks wise words. The fretless tone is mesmerising and to me It's easier to express/entertain yourself with far less work, rather than fishing around for extra notes on a fretted to keep it interesting. Depends on the situation of course but generally this.
