1. I really enjoyed that, thanks for posting. Although her talent is unquestionable, I didn't get on with her debut album at the time. The music was blazing but I found it didn't really say anything (to me). But she was very young. It takes time to live a bit and to be able to translate those rich experiences into your music. She seems to be maturing nicely. I would buy an album in this vein by her in a heartbeat.
2.
You could always cover the existing pg in woodgrain vinyl. I did my whole bass in it! Incidentally I am extremely jealous. I have serious GAS for a VM P5 at the moment! In fact, if you send me your bass I'll cover the guard in vinyl for you. Can't guarantee you'll get it back mind you 😜!
Wow I never thought of that. Hmm I shall look into it.. Where did you get yours from? Looks so natural! Yes the VM P5's are cracking basses. But out of all the things we can get gas for, at least these are realistically attainable. I thought I'd take a punt on this "cheaper" Squier until I could afford a "proper" Fender P5. Really don't see the point in spending all that extra cash now. It feels great (after a good set up and DR Lowriders fitted - killer B string now) and sounds like a good Precision. Job done! Go for it, you know it makes sense!
3. That was a fantastic read, cheers! I started at the letter to Nirvana (how could they refuse?!), then old essay, recent essay. Wow what a switched on guy Mr. Albini is. Reading all that actually makes me glad my previous bands never got anywhere in the "industry". I knew it was bad but we would have been eaten alive. Total f***ing snake pit!
4. I will, thanks again.
5. Boom! Seyanne actually do P5 wood pickguards Thanks a bundle man!
6. I've been checking out some nice wooden pickguards online but most companies who make them either just have stock shapes and/or they are over in the states. Anyone know of anyone on these shores who may do custom wood guards? It's for my Squier VM P5 so I expect to send my existing guard to be used as a template. Cheeoz.
7. Hey I really like that! Aesthetically it really works. It shouldn't really but it does! Cool the MM pup is a little further north than on a Stingray. Would love to hear all the different tones available (hint hint )
8.
I gleaned from an interview with Joe Dart that it's some random cheap entry-level bass with a ceramic MM pup and TI flats, he didn't mention active or passive. It inspired me to buy Hamfist's modified Westone Thunder with P and MM pickups, which is now also wearing TIs and can get similar sounds!
Nice!
9.
It's a tone that, with the rest of the band, sounds to die for, certainly my favourite JE tone. I was very surprised what it sounded like isolated.
Not really a big JE fan usually but to me that sounds superb in isolation. Bass with baaalls!
10.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKg_3kyIhHc
Oh my god, how righteous is that bass tone! Fantastic I wonder what kind of bass that is, a bitsa Stingray-a-like or a custom build? What a band!
11.
I still like this design personally. Lightweight, strong and still folds fairly compact. I get my trace combo and SWR extension cab on together no problem. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sack-Truck-Aluminium-Lightweight-Folding-Hand-Cart-Foldable-Trolley-Barrow-/191307497080#ht_4406wt_1305
Just what I was looking for! Thanks \m/
12.
Haha that's brilliant ! I know iv been looking about and thinking of getting a decent amp /cab in the new year ! I can feel the force it's strong on this site I will have to use Jedi mind tricks not to fall under it's spell! Thanks for the explanation of the acronym !!
Resistance is futile Welcome to Basschat!
13. I priced up buying a new '62ri Pbass directly from Japan last year. It worked out just over £800 all in to get it to my door. I didn't go for it. Don't know if that helps at all but there you go.
14. Sold Greg an Ashdown combo earlier this evening. We met up at a services on the M4, both diligently braving the traffic and the weather! Great easy deal, great meeting Greg! We had a good chinwag - Lovely chap. Deal with confidence, this guy is what Basschat is all about. Many thanks again Greg
15.
Sit back, close your eyes and enjoy the groove: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbRk4apS6jA
Niiice!
16. The one song that has shaped my 2014 and the groove that has inspired me, after discovering the band here on BC, is: THE ENTRANCE BAND - FINE FLOW - DALLAS TX: http://youtu.be/1w95c6g0UNk They also released a cool instrumental version: The Entrance Band-Fine Flow (Instrumental): http://youtu.be/GIlojfL2vIM
17. Nah, keep it as it is and just scroll through. It's not hard and you can sometimes find some nice surprises that way.
18. Thanks for taking the time to record this little test, I really enjoyed listening to it I think both basses sound fantastic but it sounds like bass #1 is easier for you to play so I'm guessing that one is the Pino. I'm VERY happy to be wrong though!
19. The V4 I used to own had the nicest feeling P neck, rock solid. An added plus over Squier is that the V4 has a full length headstock so it can wear true large vintage spec (like a Fender) tuners whereas the Squiers have a stubbier headstock so you need smaller bodied tuners.
20. Interesting! Never thought about this before but yes, you're right. My first favourite band (at age 7 funnily enough) was The Police quickly joined by Madness. Both used Precision basses. I didn't pick up a bass until 1991, then spent 20 years avoiding P basses because I wanted to be 'different' to the masses. Now, having come full circle as you do, I only play a P bass (happiness at last!) and not too strangely have always found it in my nature to create reggae and ska influenced bass lines quite easily! Now doctor, let me tell you about my mother..
21. Ashdown MAG200 1x15 kickback combo, made in England original. Bought new by me from the Basscentre in 2002. It's all I've needed and served me very well. Perfect for smaller gigs and rehearsals and sounds awesome when D.I.'d and used as a stage monitor at larger venues. Used but still sounds ace. I haven't gigged in ages and won't be for the foreseeable. £75 collected from Cardiff. 2 mins off J32 M4
22.
+1 for Paul Jackson. I met him backstage at a Headhunters gig and asked him how he gets that tone. he just showed me his fingers; there were huge deep welts through his callouses. He said I hit those f***ers as hard as hell!
Further proof that it IS all in the fingers
23. Definitely keep the '55, it sounds like it's a very special one. I get the feeling you would regret selling that one the most. Lull's are excellent basses and also very light in weight by all accounts..
24. Scott Thunes. A very resonant and woody sounding '65 Precision + Sublime talent and killer pick technique = Tone that freaks me out every time. Frank Zappa - Keep it Greasy (live): http://youtu.be/ly79mkffp7M Have I got close? Only in my dreams!
