1. I'm using Jim Dunlop Americana tri plectrums. They are for mandolins but they work me on bass. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=jim+dunlop+americana+picks&safe=active&client=ms-android-h3g-gb&sa=X&biw=360&bih=511&tbs=vw:g&tbm=shop&prmd=sinv&srpd=15701922228530733920&prds=epd:2665103104266572345,paur:ClkAsKraX4u9pTeghHwBkwB8fWlmzOZfYsIY3lXZiiOwk2xP4R5v8bUdhMxlJv8SNxDK7nFwnvOjfsbMATzfRfoZh93auSoQc91zIpkzcHTuuCe6EEFsyqVV7RIZAFPVH72qqzNoVQd-ukKBiHpv6vju9o4gYQ,cdl:1,cid:3183547036902911479&ved=0ahUKEwi1-rWnusvLAhWCZpoKHSEiAKEQgTYIwAEwAQ&ei=K5jsVvW4HYLN6QShxICICg
2. I've got one of these, same colour. I love it, although I had to mod mine to make it as light as yours is anyway. These VM P5s punch waaay above their price point at full price, never mind for 175! Somebody's going to be getting lucky. GLWTS.
3. Wow this is amazing! Speechless really.. Such creativity Jabba. πŸ‘ 😊
4. I love it, but I think the neck needs loosening a tad and the headstock moved down in the G string direction. You seem to have alot of fingerboard showing under the G and not much at all on the E string side. It should bring the strings over the pole pieces into alignment too. I say this as I'm not only a geek with OCD leanings, but a serial bitsa builder who has learnt that little tweaks like that can bring it all together. No pi$$ing on chips intended! Your bass looks killer and I'm sure it sounds it too! πŸ‘
5. http://youtu.be/k1_9eTIlZPk I have fond memories of dancing to this one at the local church discos. Bottle of woodpecker, loads of snogs πŸ˜‰.. Happy days! Pretty inappropriate music and behaviour for a bunch of 14 years olds thinking about it now though!
6. Just been into Noble's music in Whitchurch (Cardiff) to pick up a nickel 5 string set, and Clive Noble said Picato now have the backing of those who import Ernie Ball strings and Basses. Picato strings are still made in Treorchy says he in the know. πŸ‘
7. Everything that makes up a good sounding, well balanced, lightweight and resonant passive Precision 5 string. Can't be arsed playing, nor do I need, anything more faffy these days.
8.
My Nordy P5 has a reversed P pickup, and I gotta say the higher end has great definition and tone. Whether that can be attributed to the pickup layout or the fact that the build quality and components are top notch I couldn't say. It wipes the floor with my Fender though......
Lovely bass mate.
9. TRADED. Trade my 5 string aluminium Hipshot A style bridge with .708 (18mm) string spacing for the same thing but with .750 (19mm) spacing. Mine has never been gigged and is in perfect condition. It's on my P5 right now but I'm putting together another 5er that will be 19mm spacing. If someone wants to do a straight swap, that would be great! Otherwise, 50 quid posted. Cheers! 🍻
10.
Everyone is just following the "one in one out" policy and flogging their five string in order to buy one of the many that are for sale. It's snowballing!
Yup. I'm going to be selling the 5er I'd never sell v soon. To buy a new 5er. (so many basses, so little time) πŸ˜€
11. Instead of a YOB, go for a BFL. (bass for life)
12. Personally I would go for a '59 - '65 P bass if I could. Don't rule out pre CBS Fenders (if they float your boat)as they may not be of your YOB, but they certainly were around on your YOB.
13. I've learnt a shed load from her method books. I love her.
14. I've cracked the GAS thing I reckon. I enjoy the high of it, would love to order a custom P5 from somewhere nice but can't afford such luxuries... So I'm building my own, one piece at a time. Lots of lovely GAS highs as a couple of packages arrive every month. Money that I don't really notice going really. Good thing is I can change my mind as I go. Should have it together by the end of summer (and in Basses For Sale by Christmas!πŸ˜‚)
15. Squier VM Precision V. I have one and I will never part with it.
16.
One from the vaults... http://youtu.be/VOaZbaPzdsk
Now that's what I'm talking about!
17. My boys (6 & 3) LOVE the Go Jetters. As do I, well Phon-kay! Takes me back to the t.v. I remember as a 70's lil kid
18. Well, that blew the cobwebs off. Have I missed anything?
19. I'm going for a walk, I may be some time...
20. G&L know how to do things properly.
21.
memory of a free festival. purely for the chorus. I could listen to it all day!
I have been! πŸ‘
22. Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder in your current P.
23. Wow that looks great with the maple fingerboard. Congratulations!
24. I have done this and it's easier and cheaper than you may expect. Once you've taken the bass apart and have the body in hand, give it a good going over with 400 grit wet and dryto let your new colour have a good key to adhere to. Wipe clean and let dry. Couple of cans of cellulose colour finish from Rothko and Frost (their solid colours require no clear CoatπŸ‘) If you've never sprayed anything before, just get yourself on YouTube, plenty of step by step advice there. Cost you about 40 quid.
