  1. I have 2 SC's and absolutely love 'em. Perfect modular solution. One is great for rehearsals & gigs, two is even better! Super light, super loud & super lovely!
  2. I think GAK are now selling the Flyrig for £250. This could throw the proverbial cat amongst the pigeons. Also one on sale here 'as new' for £220.
  3. This and then playing the stronger notes (chord tones) on the 1 & 3 (Kick Drum) and the weaker notes (2, 4, 6 and chromatic/passing notes) on the 2 & 4 or snare drum in standard 4/4 time signature.
  4. I had the pleasure of accidentally using one of thes cabs at rehearsals last night. The studio we rehearse at has 7 rooms ranging from cheap and poky to their massive showcase room. As it was a last minute booking we went for the little room as it was half the price. I took one of my barefaced SCs as it would have been more than enough. Long story short, we got upgraded. Unfortunately the room is like a warehouse and the BFSC gets lost there so I decided to pop it on top of an old cab for some height and also the stage is hollow and boomy. Turns it the cab was 8 ohms, so I plugged it in as well to my Markbass TTE500. What a great sound it made together with my BF - proper old school bass heft with the 12" clarity of the SC. Could barely get the amp past one on the master volume without killing the keyboard player. Haven't had as much fun in ages!
  5. I recently bought a TTE500 from here. Great amps. Really loud. This must be a monster! GLWTS.
  6. I have never got on with Rics, think they are too much money for too little bass. I needed one some years ago for a Mod covers band. Bought a retrovibe for a fraction of the cost, sold it as soon as the band finished. P bass all the way, thank you very muchly.
  7. IMHO, I believe that bass players are generally easier going and have passive/less egotistical/beta personalities compared to some other musicians in the band that have 2 extra strings. However, just because we may lack a force of personalities/control freakery, I don't feel we should automatically play second fiddle musically and accept a minor 'supporting role'. I can play my instrument (and theirs) just as good as them, if not better. Be more confident. It's a great instrument. People really appreciate great bass playing. As Keith Richards said " Anyone can Rock but can they Roll"
  8. I used to use 40-100 elites for years but have recently gone heavier. Now use the Rotosound round wound Billy Sheehan's 43-110 (given to me by the man himself - clang) on one bass and LaBella Jameson heavy flats 52-110 on the other P Bass. Now find the heavier E string helps with drop tuning (Hipshot) and gives a heavier tone IMHO.
  9. I have two fantastic barefaced super compacts. Can't recommend enough. Happily takes my current weight of 'too much' sitting on it.
  10. FFS will someone please buy this! I already have 2 Super Compacts and my wife will have a complete shitfit if I buy this. Must resist, must resist (rocks slowly back and forward)
  11. I have just learnt 20 tracks over a three week period for a new band. Get them to where I am 80% happy with them but I know in rehearsals they are probably going to: 1. Change the arrangement 2. Change the bloody key! I work on the Pareto principle/80/20 rule whereby you get 80% of the result from 20% of the effort e.g. 1 hour of practise will get you 80% and 5 hours will get you 100%. I am experienced enough that I wouldn't want to spend 5 hours of my free time learning a song and then they either do 1 and/or 2 or possibly no. 3. Which is drop the song all together. Now that's really annoying but have only lost 1 hour as opposed to 5.
  12. Lots of scams on gumtree. My wife nearly fell for one yesterday.
  13. I can recommend the DHA VT2 pedal. It has 2 valves. Valve One I use for a crunchy overdrive sound and the second I use as a nasty, dirty fuzz.
  14. Come on Bob, there's no Sue is there? Women like that don't exist. She's either a figment of you imagination or an Angel right here on earth.
  15. I went to the Winery Dogcamp in NY 2 years ago. Billy Sheehan is a fantastic bass player and guitarist! All round top bloke. Mike Portnoy - meh, not so much.
  16. Sorry to hear that Karl. Thought they would have been snapped up by now too.
  17. Really loving the LPB bass but as I like Karl, I'll let him have a good crack at it first.
  18. I agree, you usually know there and then or have a strong indication but it was just the apathy, lack of feedback, especially when you know you did a good job. I wouldn't have joined if asked. It was like getting a knock back from an ugly girl. Very confusing and what you really want to say to say is how dare you, you'd be f'ing lucky for me to have you!
