obbm's feedback

I've just recently bought Dave's Ashdown LB30 and a smoother transaction you will never have! Cheers Dave!
2. Recently bought Gareth's LB 2x12 cab. Gareth went to great lengths to have the cab sufficiently packed to be shipped over the Irish sea. An all round good chap!
3. Funny I've been doing this (simple setup - bog standard P-bass, amp, cab) for a while and am now heading the other direction with a fancy 5 string, collection of pedals, etc. I still have the simple setup for when I'd rather do that though. The (somewhat depressing) question is, will anyone in the audience notice the difference? I think we all know the answer to that...
4. I have the same rig and it rocks! Much louder than you would expect!!!
5. PM'd re Colossus
6. Police. You still have his bank details I trust?
7. Any interest in a Shuker 6? Great bass but I've come to the conclusion that 6 is one too many for me! http://basschat.co.uk/topic/8083-yes-its-another-shuker/page__fromsearch__1
8. Anyone actually tried them yet?
9. I had a Farida Jazz (maple neck with black blocks) with me for some repair work a while back and to fit a set of Wizards to. Brilliant bass for that sort of money it has to be said.
10. What's your budget so we can make more accurate suggestions? Going on spacing alone I'd say either an Ernie Ball Stingray 5 (or the cheaper Sterling 35 equivalent - you might still be able to find a now discontinued but cheaper still Ernie Ball Sub5) or perhaps a Sandberg, but you're into heft money for some of those. There are dozens of options with narrower than 19mm string spacing. I recently sold a Lakland 55-01 (19mm) and have a Dingwall Afterburner now (18mm) and I'm having some trouble with the narrower spacing, but I'm persevering! Different strokes, etc.
11. Good choice my man. Have one and it's going nowhere! Mine was one of the very earliest ones with the grill cloth and celestion speaker (when the Ashdown ABMs were marked as 200 and 400 watts before they magically upgraded them to 300 and 500 watts without changing the amp designs at all ). I remember speaking to the guys at the bass center and they couldn't understand why the 1x10 combo was discontinued. I keep plying with the idea of upgrading the celestion speaker in mine but it only gets used in the house at the minute so there's not much point.
12. Having tried the Streamliner 600 with my Tech Soundsystems 4x12 I bet this is a lush sounding little rig!!!
13. Dave Marks has literally DOZENS of videos on these on YouTube. They do look rather tasty!!!
14. Nice looking rig! I'd be careful storing leads and things inside the cab. The pics I've seen show that the rear of the speaker is exposed and you could damage the cone with stuff rattling about in there. You could put your stuff in a zipable bag (like a mic case) and secure it to the rear or bottom of the cab with Velcro or something though I suppose!
15. Definitely not the B&O ICEpower module as used in lots of micro amps.
16. Streamliners are great sounding amps - I found the 600 I tried to be a little lacking in overall headroom and punch compared to my Orange Terror Bass, but I would LOVE to hear how the 900 compares because it sure is a fat, juicy and versatile preamp (I would point out that my experiences were at STUPID volumes in a room I wasn't familiar with so it may have been me!).
17.
More ABM love here. I regretably sold mine to a BC member and continue to rue that day and have very nearly bought a new one... went for a LB instead, which is also a keeper. I have learnt from my mistakes!
Funny I'm looking an LB30 and cab at the minute too! I have a spare ABM (first series chrome face) that'll be going up for sale shortly (when the LB30 arrives) VERY cheap if you'd be interested?
18. The last minute or so or the 3Leaf Audio PWNZOR video on YouTube should do it... albeit 'muted'...
19. Ignore the needle and trust your ears... the VU meter is a gimick that looked cool when the ABM was first released, but is next to useless in any practical sense. Unfortunately the ABM is not a particlarly loud 500 watts...
20. And it's f'ing loud...
21.
A Bass Terror is an amp I MUST try out at some point, although I suspect, from all accounts, it may not have the flexibility I need for a covers band.
You might think so, but I've used mine on a wedding band gig. Jazz bass into Orange into neo 4x12. Serious grunt! Changing right hand position and attack and pickup pan was enough variation for me. I'm in the process of adding a few choice effects and will be toning down the Orange preamp with lower gain valves for a bit of added flexibility though!
22. I've always loved my ABMs and never had any trouble with mine, although I firmly believe that the early series are much more reliable than the newer ones. I still have 2 first series ABMs, but currently use the orange terror bass more. It has the same tone set flat as I try to get from my ABMs, but with a little more punch and a LOT more gain, which suits the stuff I normally play.
23. Only cons really are, as mentioned, you need a hum cancelling J to be hum free and you can't get the slightly in-between tones as you would from a jazz setup (neck p'up slightly rolled off or bridge p'up slightly rolled off). I'd go for a switch rather than 2 volumes myself. 2 P pickups interests me, and might blend better than P+J... I rather like James Lomenzo's custom shop Yamaha BB - 2 P pickups and a big old mudbucker at the neck. Sounds gnarly!
24.
Here's my newly completed rig: Small and f***in' loud!
Lovely!!!
25. I've liked every Sandberg I've ever played. My only issue is that the headstock can look a little cheap - hardly a biggy. I'm all full up as far as P, J and MM style basses go so I'll probably never own one though... :-(
