4.
yeah - they replaced all the American Vintage series at the same time with different models. I can't put my finger on what I preferred. the '74... just felt a bit cheap, thick varnish on the neck, and.... and I instantly disliked it - obviously thats all my highly personal opinion. I've tried a few '75 and they've just struck me as very very nice basses that stacked up well against the sadowsky stuff the shop had in in terms of fitting and feel and I preferred the tone of the '75.
Interesting! I can't say I'm a fan of heavily varnished necks either, sounds like the '75 might be the one
 5.
Ok lets confuse it even more.... Fender American Vintage 75ri - generally...natural with maple or rosewood, blocks binding, 3 bold neck 70's position. Brilliant Fender American Vintage 74ri - the newer version released last year. I tried both in shops and preferred the '75. Fender FSR USA 70's jazz bass.... special limited run in 2002 of a few thousand basses in custom colours and with some differences, for example I used to have a lake placid blue one, and it had an alder body. Very very good instruments and a bit different to the normal american vintage range.
So where have all the 75 RI's gone, or am I being ignorant? they're not on the Fender website any more are they... Discontinued right? What made you prefer the 75?
 6. So I've been gassing after a new jazz in natural, with a ash body and blocks and binding and I have found these two: Fender American Vintage 74 and the Fender FSR American Vintage 75 From what I can tell the main differences lie in the necks, the 74 has a U shaped neck + 4 bolt whereas the 75 is armed with a modern C shape + 3 bolt. By the looks of the the 75 has a aged tinted finish? Has anyone played either of these and can shed some more light on them? Particularly the FSR 75!
 7.
Don't suppose this is still up for grabs?
All gone I'm afraid! Reminded me to mark it as gone. Sorry to disappoint!
 8.
Well I am, actually - but I don't think this is the appropriate website for that sort of thing... nice bass, though!

Well that wasn't very discreet! Don't worry, I've got my coat and am in the car
Steady lads!
Bloody luvverly. Is this supposed to be a re-fin over sunburst or something?
Olympic white over candy apple red!
 9.
That looks fantastic! How does it play and sound? Are we to expect a little soundclip/video clip next?
Not had a whole lotta time to play it but so far it sounds great, really really growls. Just need to spend a morning (with some coffee) to get the neck off, change the strings and tweak the action. It's pretty high for me at the mo but I'm in to having a super low action with a slight hint buzz Could do a wee video if others are interested! Don't have a decant interface unfortunately.
^^ That looks great - just the right amount of relic for me too.

Yum.
Really impressed with the way it came out. Popped a snap up on facebook and had someone asking if it was a CS! Might start looking in to getting a different pick guard though.

 14. Now waiting for my heavy relic P, olympic white over Candy apple red, matching headstock and chrome covers. The weeks are going incredibly slowly to say the least
 15. Bump! I used the bass for this video and recording. Lots of B7K as well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLLFiTmTiOQ
 16. One of my bands got a call to play outside the Amex football stadium yesterday for the Brighton vs Bolton game in the new FanZone. Was a fun gig! Got filmed for a new local TV channel for Brighton, had a very healthy crowd for a alt rock band and got free tickets to the game + food. How good is that? This was the first time they have ever had live music + beer available before the games and we've already been asked to come back next season!
 17. ALL pm's replied to. I do apologise for the lack of responses as I've been working/rehearsing/gigging and doing everything and anything in-between! Regarding the dinks on the bass, they are all within 5mm, there's 3 main offenders: 1. half a inch from the bridge under the A string 2. On the back of the body 2 inches from the contour 3. On the back again, near the small horn showing a bit of wood Just so everyones aware and for my own piece of mind!
 18.
Can we have some more pics of the damage mentioned, and of the bent tuners?
Sure, drop me a email!
 19. Wow sorry for the late replies guys, been rushed off my feet. All PMs replied too. Will have the weight in 5mins!
 20.
Lovely bass. What does the Special refer to? Is it a jazz width neck? EDIT: I should read. Slimmer neck sounds good - similar to a jazz?
Check out the website http://www.fender.com/en-GB/series/american-special/american-special-precision-bass-maple-fingerboard-black/ I wouldn't compare the next to a jazz neck, it's slimmer back to front with a P nut. I find this really comfortable! Will get back to all your PMs tonight once I'm home from work
